Ken - I think it was all done with a scalpel. But the area is so numbed up that you don't feel anything. They slice away the cacinoma (about the size of a dime) & send it to the lab. You then wait for the results. In my case, some cancer cells showed up on the edge, so they took a little more off. The lab then reported all clear, so it was stiched up. Because of its location, the surgeon made additional inciscisions about 3/4" long each. One above & one below to allow her to gather enough skin area for closure. This morning I look like I was in an off-post bar brawl, but had no trouble sleeping. The only down size is I can't wear my glasses because of the bulky bandage, but I can remove it later today & then be back in business.

Tom: Glad they could get it all. I have a spot on my arm that I am going to go have removed, I don't like the looks of it.

Model front: I am helping with the layout at the railroad museum. It is O-scale and coming along slowly.

Ed, I think you got a loco that was meant to go to New Zealand or Australia. Send it to Bear and the coupler will be the right way up.Smile, Wink & Grin

Yep! You Kiwi's are pretty sharp. I was wondering if anyone would catch that.Laugh

Good afternoon from the left side of Canuck land. Still windy as all get out. Still, have power, that's amazing.

Dave, shortly after my Dad died in 1993, I came home with two tickets to England for my Mom and myself. She kept putting off her visit to all the relatives for some reason, so I stayed for ten days and came home and she stayed another month. While we were there she asked to go to an old church near where she was born. In the churchyard was the grave of a cousin she was very close to. It turns out he died on the Dambuster raid, he was a pilot. He had been repatriated not long after his death, while the war was still on.

Garry, in the 2008 crash, Canada was relatively unaffected by the whole thing. However, after the dust settled in the U.S. I put a lot (for me) of money into the U.S. markets and did extremely well in the coming years. The next big win for me was when the Canadian Dollar was above the U.S. dollar. I  cashed out a lot of my shares on the Toronto exchange when I saw what was happening and bought back on the U.S. markets and then sold after our dollar came back down. Canada is the United States biggest supplier of oil and our dollar tends to follow the price of oil. Easy pickins for anyone that follows what goes on in the world.

Another trick I use to do is buy on one market and sell on another right away as the bid/ask can be quite a spread sometimes between the two exchanges. This requires your full attention though.

This is the first image of the set the kid worked on for three weeks in Deadpool 2. They wore protective goggles and earplugs that the camera could not pick up. He is not in this shot, however, he said there were a lot of big explosions over the three weeks he was there. They wanted him for another three weeks but he had to leave for school.

The wife is painting the kitchen and sending out a mayday, so better run.

All the best to all.

I am here, just hiding in a booth in the back, heads down with homework. Every now and then I question the sanity of going back to school at my age.

Richard:

Going back to school is definitely worth it.  Went to grad school in my 40's to get a MBA.  It was hard on me, my wife, and my kids.  But I did it, and you can too. It has made a positive improvement on my career, as well.

Tried to get my son to stay in school to get a masters in computer science.  He didn't want to hear it.  His wife is in the same field, worked just as long, but has a masters and makes significantly more money.

I pre-ordered a Bowser RS-3 from one of the big mail order places.  It is supposed to be delivered next month, but if Atlas is any example, it could be the middle of next year.

I am having second thoughts.  I am imagining it going in the dumpster after I am called to the Big Sleep.    I guess it comes down to how many engines do you need vs how many engines do you want.

Mentioning the upside-down coupler, I find at times that I have to stop and think which way I am installing a coupler or even the box, especially when I have the engine or car upside. There have been a few times (not on Fridays either) where I have accidentally installed the couplers upside down

Been there, done that, felt really stupid afterwards!!Smile, Wink & GrinLaughLaughLaugh

Good evening, Gents

Well, there is another spirit passsing over. My Aunt, My mother's sister, passed away today.

SO I have to make a trip to the midwest, To Battle Creek Michigan. SHe was 84. My father went this summer and saw here and his brother and cousin adn their families, I should have gone, but I can only go for a week or so, he likes to go open ended, as he likes o take his time.

He's not sure if he will go, But I think I will force the issue, he was close to her, and He says hes not sure he can hold together, I said funerals are not for holding together. SHe was his age. That might have hit home for him.

At work tonight, but now fingding it a bit difficult to hold together myself, or rather concentrate. I had a guest check in, his first name Christopher, I put his name in the computer as CHRISTMAS. Don't know where THAT came from, CHristmas is the furthest from my mind now.

Not much else to report, I guess.

I'll leave you to your thoughts as I meditate in the corner booth, if its not taken.

Probabbly like me, there was no way I was going to get another degree. I got my B.A. in four years. ( even went summers to do so) and I was done. I could only handle so much school.

 Eveing Diners

Flo, Inch, Tom, Brent, The Great Ed, Gary, Angleob, Ulrich, Inch, Jan, Galaxy and I will have a cold Beer please.

Work Front, Just Because You Are Paranoid Does Not Mean There Not Out To Get You! Found out today they have hired another sales person. Yes I am somewhat worried and not at the sametime. While my sales have sucked so has the whole companys. Every one that has worked with Jerry knows he is a lost cause, hard to believe he is all most at his 2 year mark. Keith (hired two months ago) makes it no screat he does not care about making commision and is not hanging around long.

Or could my neck be on the chopping block? In most companys I would not be worried. But then again this company does nothing right! Heck they have kept people that have stolen bank deposit and lost them on the gambling boats. Reason is so they can pay back what was stolen? Whistling

Tom  After seeing some of the faces of folks at the VA Dermatologist Clinc that where treated with Lazers I say you are lucky! There faces looked liked they have been BBQ'ed.

Taking SS at age 62. Still up in the air about taking it this Febuary. I am sick of weighting the Pro and Cons! What really sucks was the company I worked for for 20 years had control of my 401 K that had $80,000.00 in it. Company went belly up and the $80,000.00 was gone. That was 10 years or so years ago, that sure would have helped!

Trains are runing better than my life, later Ken

Good evening all.

Flo - Is there still a RBF from Ed? Sweet! Thanks Ed!

Speaking of Ed - Is the dryer fixed? I was curious, did you check the moisture sensor? If it is sensing the clothes are dry, it will shut off the heat to save power.... Unless it is older and does not have the sensor drying thing.

And, at least it was only a imitation coupler issue... Crazy stuff happens when you try to use pretend Kadee's! Stick out tongue

Weather - Cool and damp, and hearing that there is some ❄️ (snow) in my future... If the professional guessers are correct.

W*^k - I won a contest last week! While it was not a big amount, it is an extra bonus!

Oddball issue - Somehow, a company feels that I didn't pay a $11 bill, even though they deposited the check back in June. I got a certified letter today, demanding immediate payment of the $11, plus a "administrative fee", of $1.50, and a $32.50 fee for the certified letter.... For a total of $45.00....

Looks like someone is getting a phone call tomorrow morning....

Seeing as we like quotes, something a friend of mine used recently -

"When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.” - Mark Twain

No, he was not using it to teach me the same lesson, but reminding me, and someone else, of a very valid point... Sometimes we have a narrow viewpoint, and need to step back a bit and reconsider our view.

Hope all are well, and all have a good night!

Good Morning!

I had a terrible night, but that´s nothing really new. The weather is quite bad, just wet & windy, but that´s also nothing new at this time of the year. I need some cheering up, but have no idea where to get it. That´s also nothing new.

Summing it up "all is quiet on the northern front".

Galaxy - I am sorry to hear about your loss!

Talking of education, I can´t say I really made use of what I have learned. The only important thing I got from my university days was how to get hold an an issue and deal with it, the trade itself came by "learning by doing". I was lucky enough to have been entrusted with a lot of responsibilities early on in my "career".

Looking back, I feel sorry for not having learned a proper trade, like a carpenter. I love to work with anything "woody".

Have a great day!

Edit:

I just found this video of a really neat, small HOn3 layout.

The entire layout is only 40" by 8´ - just the type of layout I like!

Good morning Diners,

Brunhilda, I'll have an extra large coffee with lots of cream, please.

SS: I opted to take SS at age 62 also.  When we went to the office to check on availability and eligibility, they explained that you're not necessarily better off to wait.  Great if you can do it, but to do it early is not exactly a penalty.  It's just that the difference is distributed earlier and over a longer period of time.  Well, we had bills, so I opted for it.

Education:  I decided to go back to school at age 54.  I was working full time in industrial engineering at the time, and had been for about 14 years, but was not degreed.  I went back to school to study interior design.  It took me 7 years to get a 2 year degree, still working full time.  MOH thinks it has gotten me nowhere, but I don't completely agree.  I have been working in the kitchen and bath industry because of my training, but not as well paid.  i don't think I could've gotten another engineering job without an engineering degree.  Companies have become kind of funny that way.  I think it is because of liability issues.

I hope someone might find my story encouraging for them if they are trying to decide.

Hello to everyone, and I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

Less is more,...more or less!

SS: I opted to take SS at age 62 also.

UP 831 I was told that if I take SS at 62 I can only make a extra $17040.00 a year or $327.69 a week gross. Is that the same in your case? I was all so told they keep what ever your a projected to make over the $17040.00 a year up front. If you would have the time to talk on the phone let me know here in the dinner and PM me your phone number.

Evenin' folks!

Janie I could use....  Ah... How about a hot fudge sundae with peanuts and a cherry on top.  Oh I could use a hot mug of decaf to go along with that too.

Education stuff....  Being a teacher, I had to get a Masters in Education within 10 years of starting to teach or my certification would expire.  For most subjects you only had 5 years.  Music was an exception due to the fact that fewer colleges offered music degrees or one that would be accepted.  I got my Bachelors Degree at Eastman School, U of R.  Then a masters in Fine Arts in Education at Elmira College.  Personally I always encourage people to get as much education as you can.  Never hurts!  For me, if I didn't go to Eastman I never would have met Chuck Mangione, or Lew Soloff (think lead trumpet BS&T), sung under the baton of Howard Hanson, had a violin lesson (twice) with Shinichi Suzuki, among other things.  I studied under the same Voice Teacher that taught Renée Fleming.  I also had my name up in lights at Eastman Theater (Only one other undergraduate, Education Major ever did that.  His name was Mitch Miller!  He was considered to be the best oboist in the world when he was a senior at Eastman.)  And a whole lot of other things......  I also was a pretty decent Vocal Music Teacher (If I believe what I have told by many people at least).  I had a good and enjoyable career.  If I had not gone to college?  Well, I probably would have gone bankrupt trying to keep my Father's Farm afloat.... I certainly wouldn't have a comfortable retirement.  I ain't rich, but I can live OK on what I have.

My prayers for those who have some not so good things going on at the moment!

I am almost ready for the NMRA Division Meet here in Geneva this Saturday.  One more day to prepare.  Most of the house has been more or less cleaned, and the layout is hopefully ready to run.

Have a great night out there folks!

Afternoon Diners,

Quiet in here isn't it for 14Hours on a Friday!

A few days ago I thought of making a small diorama scene. A few years ago if you tell you that I found a little good shape table without legs and a G Scale boxcar. But I also found 3 Lego Star Wars clone troopers.

So three days ago I ordered a few more Lego figures but I'll buy some more next month. It will be a nice little diorama scene with a Jedi with clone armor, troops and battle droids. It was going to be in a shadow box but couldn't find a decent size for the image in my mind. I did find a 3 baseball stand case that would be a perfect size.

I found an Great Northern boxcar that FVM made like a year ago I think. But I was disappointed a little bit when the boxcar didn't have its ACI label. The FVM picture clearly shows one on it in their production drawings.

I hope everyone is being safe and careful.

Flo, The Great Ed, Gary, UP 831, Jan, Brent, Ulrich, Galaxy, Angelob, Inch and I will have a Beer Please. All so help your self to some baby back rib's I am cooking.

Day Off, boy I will glad to get to work for some rest! Smile, Wink & Grin Took the wife to two driffrent Doctors today. Yep her knee is a mess. She was given a shot of Court-A-Zone (sorry about the spelling) in the right knee a month early. There is no cartilage left in her right knee! It is so bad the Tibia is twisting and could break through the skin. Guessing that would be bad. Whistling

Did some running maily with the wife in tow. Did some Honey Do's and raked some more darn leaves!

Aldi Grecgey Store. I had been devoted to the Shop And Save Chain for 30 years now. But this fall they started jacking up there prices on fresh vegetables Brussels mainly, $3.99 a pound now was $1.99 this sumer. About a month ago one of the cashiers at Shop And Save told me while I was complaing about the price hike told me Aldi had them on sale for $1.29 a pound. Rough guest it will cut the food bill $125.00 a month. There milk today was $0.89 a gallon, eggs 0.69 for a dozen. At Shop And Save Milk is $4.29 a gallon, and a dozen eggs $1.39. Spent $26.00 at Aldi's today and had two heavy bags of grecgey including a rack of Baby Back Rib's for $26.00.

Trains are running great. The Might CB&Q's are starting to restore my faith in BLI engines.

Evenin'.....

Janie I could use a decaf for the moment.............

Oh man!  Am I tired.  Spent the entire day trying to get all the things done I should have gotten done days ago.  House is passable for the open house tomorrow, but the layout is iffy.  Since it hasn't really been run in a couple of years, there is all kinds of crud on the tracks, etc.  One of the safety rails on the curved bridge went out of alignment and caused all kinds of derailments when I ran trains over it.  That was solved by removing the safety rail temporarily on the side that was out of specs.  There is also some derailments in the rails behind the new section where I can't get to it without bringing in the topside creeper....  Those may have been caused by pulling a track cleaning car at the end of the train.  Tomorrow we shall see.....  The coal drag should do well and the 2-6-6-2's will run on very dirty track with little problem.  Smaller locos are ... jerk, jerk hesitate, roar off for a few feet then jerk, jerk, and stop...

I think I have everything in order for the Meet.  if I don't?  Oh well!

Oh Ken  just so you know, the word is spelled cortisone...

Have a good one out there.  I am heading to bed.  Six am is going to come way too soon I think.

Good Afternoon!

I just woke up from a short nap after lunch, so I need coffee in an IV bag to get me going! Add a basket load of chocolöate chip cookies to that, Flo, if you please ...

What started out as a nice day turned into a nightmare! All of a sudden, it turned pitch black dark, followed by a torrential rainfall that the sewer could not handle at all, resulting in streets being flooded and many a basement, too. My friend Lothar called in, saying that he was just lucky, being in his basement when he noticed a trickle of water coming in through a window. That trickle soon turned into a stream, which he was able to divert to the place where is sump pump is. The joys of having your home at the bottom end of a slope, even if it is a tiny one!

Talking of shopping, we would not be able to make ends meet without Aldi and their fierce competitor Lidl, although their offerings are not always a bargain. Most of the stuff, however, is considerably cheaper. I still remember the first Aldi markets in the 1960´s. They were rather uninviting looking places with wooden shelving holding a very limitede range of groceries, only non-perishable items. In those days, you did not admit to shop at Aldi´s, but everyone did, turning the Aldi business into a goldmine and making the Albrecht brothers really rich folks. They lived a rather withdrawn life and only made the headlines, when a son was kidnapped, who was able to escape - afzter the ransom had been paid. The kidnappers were arrested years later, but the money was never to be found. They must have spent the milliuons of Deutschmarks in a very short period of time.

No major plans for the rest of the day, maybe I´ll be rreading a book. Haven´t done that for a long time!

Evenin'.......

Oh, Wow, am I pooped!  Been a long but fun and successful day.  The church worked as an excellent location for the morning session.  We did get started about 10 minutes late and never really made the time up.  Had two great clinics.  The first was from one of my members, Ron Stacy (Who along with his wife, are the Poster children for NCE Electronics, and has a fantastic layout) on why we should all be modeling the 1970's.)  I who model Saturday, August 15, at 2PM in the afternoon learned a whole lot of things I didn't know about the 1970's and.....  why it indeed is a great period to model.  The other clinic was by, none other than, Bill Brown, MMR who may be one of the finest Modelers on Earth!  He is the AP Chair for the NorthEastern Region, and has done some modeling of protoype things where you can't tell a photo of the original from a photo of his model.

They both (along with 20 other folks) visited my layout this afternoon.  It was the first time Bill has been here.  He seemed very pleased with what he saw.  I showed him the 3 structures that just recieved merit awards, and he just smiled and nodded his head in agreement that were of the quality needed (The Octagon Blacksmkth's Shop, the Curved Track Grider Bridge, and the smaller deck girder bridge).  He also sneaked a photo of the inside of the Engine House at the Quarry that had already recieved a good strong Merit Award Score several years ago.  He called me aside with a huge grin and showed me.  Frankly the best photo anyone has taken of it.  Makes on feel awfully good when a modeler of his quality gets excited to see what I have done....  (just bragging a bit...)

Had an old friend come over and run trains for the afternoon.  They kept the train running on the old part opf the layout and where people could watch as they felt like it.  Had a young lady who was with my DIL and my Grandkids who are going camping with the Girl Scouts tonight in Rochester run several trains under the supervision of the guy who was helping.  I thnk we have a new lady Model Railroader started!  A couple other guests did run some trains as well....  Now I have several Thank You cards to get out early next week and get to work on the next project for the Winter Season.......

Ulrich, sounds like some of the storms we have had around these parts in the last few weeks.  This is the new "Normal" they say...  Glad you and Lothar stayed high and fairly dry!  Tomorrow we may have some sn*w here in the Finger Lakes Region of NYS...

Have a great day out there.  Prayers for all in need!

Ray - Sounds like you scored big again. Congrats... It also appears your visitors enjoyed the day as well.

My day wasn't nearly as interesting. It kind of went downhill when we went to railfan this morning, only to find the road we need to use to cross the tracks was closed for a 5k race. As it was pouring down rain, I was surprised an event like that wouldn't be canceled. So we drove further down the highway to a hardware store in Ambridge. Picked up a light for the oven & a couple bags of calcium chloride. On the way back home, the access road was open so we went to our spot. Kind of a waste of time as in 2 hours we only saw 1 intermodal & 2 engines running light. So we came on home & had an early lunch.

We then drove to another hardware store on the other side of town so I could pick up some supplies I need for our Dept, 56 Dickens Village display. While we there, the wife decided to buy me a Christmas present. It's another Dickens Village building I was admiring. Lucky me.

Still raining pretty heavy here, but the temps are in the mid 50s. I think we will be going to a train show in Monaca in the morning. It's not a big show, & mainly old or used stock, but I still like to look around. You just never know, maybe I'll get lucky & find some item that I just can't live without.
