Hi gang. I hope everyone had a nice thanks giving. I'm happy to report that we had a good one. However when we got home later that night we got a call from the sheriff's department that there was a cop killer that was armed and on foot in the neighborhood. The police helicopters were flying around spot lighting the ground and there were over twenty cops on foot with dogs looking for the guy. They told us to stay inside and pull the shades. They had all of the roads out here blocked too. It was kind of scary for a while. We then got a call that the guy had been found in a hay field and arrested not far from us. I'm glad they caught the guy and am really sorry about the state trooper he killed who was married with three little kids...

I haven't had a chance to run trains lately but may go out tomorrow and put a little time in.

Good morning from the dry but dreary West Coast.

Ah yes, Unstoppable, When the movie came out in the theatre I loaded up the truck with a bunch of kids and told them we were going to see a movie I wanted to see this time. With a little apprehension, they agreed, after all, they would be getting a big bag of popcorn and drink out of the deal. The whole lot of them thoroughly enjoyed it and looked at my trains a little differently afterward.

Ken, I think there were about forty cars behind those two Atlas Trainmasters. I think those Trainmasters could pull my house down the street if I hooked them up. I remember we had a lot of fun filming that. At the end when I finally hook on to the back of the train just like in the movie, I was really worried about string lining the long freight. I was flipping back and forth between the two trains like crazy on the controller. Captain Kirk would have been proud (Qapla) that's success in Klingon.Laugh

Here is the camera car, it is so top heavy and rocked back and forth it made my trackwork look terrible.

The layout is in what is suppose to be a Nanny or in-law suite. It is 15' x 24'. Those two doors you see are bedrooms, one is my trainroom office, the other the guest bedroom. I moved our Grand Piano into the living room while my wife was away at a dog show. When she walked in the door she said: "I see you started on your layout" and smiled. She's the best.

It has about 200' of mainline with three to four dozen turnouts. No grade is over 2% and that long climb up the spline hill is probably about 40' long and is not a steady or set grade the whole way. The climb through the Rockies isn't a set grade the whole way so that climb on my layout probably varies between 1/2 to near 2%. Not sure but, I think that gives long trains a bit of a breather along the way.Laugh I have also tried to make some of the curves flow by adjusting or changing radiuses through a turn. I think it helps make it look less stamped out or toy like.

Sorry, I don't have a track plan of it and our Mac is closing in on a trip to the recycle centre as it is on its last legs. It can't seem to handle video uploads anymore as it is so outdated. They will come eventually though.  Thanks for taking an interest, it has been fun building it.

In other news, the kid got a call from a casting director in Ottawa who is making a movie there, the guy was talking to a director in Vancouver who told him about my kid. Experienced help is hard to find in Ottawa as it is not a movie mecca like Vancouver. They wanted him to be a bad guy running from the cops, or something like that. It is being shot near the University as well. The kid turned it down as he had a lot of school work to do, but wishes he could have done it.

The wife is still painting, I think she is obsessed.Indifferent

Think I'll go grab my axe and play for an hour or two. Eenie meenie miney mo.Laugh

I'll get a couple of trains runnin (san's sound) and serenade them, if that doesn't cause them to derail or break down nothin will.Pirate

All the best for a great weekend to all.

Brent

Nice video. Even NYCT will not allow a train to come up that close to its leader. Especially at speed like that.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of organic granola with skim milk, and a pot of Marrakeesh Express Dark Roast Organic, Fair Traded Coffee to start my day.  Thank you Ma'am!

Oh my Gosh... Fergie!, that is you sitting back there.  Nice to see you sir....  I take it you are back on shore for now.  Hope you are finding some time for the layout.  Yes all "legal" beverages are served in the diner these days.  Since it is virtual it doesn't lead to brawls and such.  Frankly I rarely touch the stuff, but do like a nice glass of Finger Lakes Wine once in a while.  I only go for the best you know!  Anyway, good to see you, and do tell us what you've been up to these days.

After a nice sunny day yesterday the sky is once again dark and grey outside.  Not gpoing to break any records for solar energy this month..... and year.  We don't need any more rain here in the Finger Lakes.  I have never seen a pond out in back of my gouse between mky property and the neighbors in November before......  I is a swamp out ther at the moment.  Water has stopped seeping in the basement at least.

I am supposed to get together with my son today to get the lights working on my small trailer (which sits out at his house right now) so I can get it inspected after the 1st. of December.  Then I have to get it registered again.  Hopefully after inspection we will get it back parked in my driveway for the winter.  I have a lot more driveway room than he does....  That will ingratiate me to my DIL..... LOL

I have just one more day of being 70 years old and want to make the best of it.  Catch you all later!

Fergmeister,

Wine----

About the time I started up the machine that makes painkiller medicine---among other things, it can also be used as a fuel in an internal combustion engine, embalming fluid, sterilize medical instruments, paint remover, a marinade for veggies, or an astringent for after shave. I make it in several flavors, and various strengths, and volatilizations.

Spatchedcocked turkey was a success.  The gravy was not.  I didn't have enough liquids in the bottom of the pan and the drippings and sliced apples burned, so I could not use that.  My gravy was lump free but not much different in color or texture form the mash potatoes.

Pumpkin cheesecake was outstanding.

Video on the news tonight from Australia.  A blonde in a bare midrift top is walking across the tracks in a subway? station.  Gets to the wall of the elevated platform and a couple guys pull her up and out a second or two before the incoming train pulls in.

They don't say but I'll bet alcohol was involved.

Afternoon Diners,

I thought I saw a Norfolk Southern freight with a Conrail locomotive on the curve, but it not it from CEFX leasing with old paint. Oh man Sigh

I had a good time with my aunt Mackie but nothing interesting or exciting which is very rare. Occasionally their is good gossip during the past year.

I might hang the lights early next week or so. So I can continue nailing the new nails in.

Vienna sausages were always my favorite.

Have a nice safe weekend during Black Friday.

No Vienna sausage but we DO have Venetian blinds, does that count? (my dad did love his Armour Vienna sausage, though. Better than potted meat, I guess?)

I hope you are all doing well this evening. Thoughts of support and comfort for those who are not so well off.

REDNECK THANKSGIVING

....................................

You Might Be a Redneck This Thanksgiving If...

... you've ever had Thanksgiving dinner on a ping-pong table.

... Thanksgiving dinner is squirrel and dumplings.

... you've ever reused a paper plate.

... if you have a complete set of salad bowls and they all say Cool Whip on the side.

... if you've ever used your ironing board as a buffet table.

... your turkey platter is an old hubcap.

... your best dishes have Dixie printed on them.

... your stuffing's secret ingredient comes from the bait shop.

... your only condiment on the dining room table is ketchup.

... side dishes include beef jerky and Moon Pies.

... you have to go outside to get something out of the 'fridge.

... the directions to your house include "turn off the paved road."

... you consider pork and beans to be a gourmet food.

... you have an Elvis Jell-o mold.

... your secret family recipe is illegal.

... you serve Vienna sausage as an appetizer.

Good Thanksgiving wishes to all.  Son and DIL came for dinner.  Daughter and SIL went to his family in Indiana.

All was perfect.  Celebrated son's promotion at a huge world wide organic food didtributor, and DIL's promotion, she is a special education teacher, dealing with kids from the "hood".

We are going to be low key here at home this Christmas,  just simple decorations, as no family stuff here, we had that last year.

My sweet wifey says she thinks it would be great to have an N scale train running around our table top tree.  Big Smile Stick out tongue Cool Bow   My On3 train I wanted to set up won't fit. Soooooooo, I get to go shopping! Laugh

Evenin' folks!

Hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving!  I had a good day except for the tedium of being around my sister who, of course, disliked everything I said and made it known to all......  But that is normal for her.  She can't figure out why she has no friends left either.

The big meal was big and very tasty.  I ate more than have in quite some time and am still full from the meal.  I had a small repast this evening after I got home though to take my meds.

I haven't taken my evening blood sugar yet, but it shouldn't be too bad.

I spent a few minutes down cellar in the train room and have the freight Car I won at the raffle at the convention together.  Ended up putting a pair of Kaydee Vulcan Trucks on the car.  It is way too modern for my layout, but I will probably run it anyway.  Nice little shake the box Accurail Kit.  I will not run the crappy Accurail trucks or couplers on any of my rolling stock.....

Tomorrow I get to go back over to my son's house and have a repeat performance of the Thanksgiving Dinner again (Leftovers) sans my irritating sister....  Now that should be fun!

Have a great night out there, my friends!

 Eveing Diners

Flo, The Great Ed, Jan, Gary, Brent, Ulrich, Angelob, UP 831, Galaxy and I will have some cold turkey please.

Rough start today, felt like I had a hang over. Checked my Blood Surgar and it was only 54? Had half a glass of Grape Soda and started feeling better around 9:30.

Thanks Giving Meal Prep. Got the onions, celery, deviled eggs done last night when I got home. Sue was feeling better today and made the stuffing. I was in charge of the truckey so it was not to well done. I bought a truckey roster few years back and it sure cooks quick! This year we had a small bird, only 11 pounds and it was done in 2 hours and 15 minutes. Should have turned it off after 2 hours, bone was starting to show on the drum sticks but meat was still moist.

Made my self some sausage stuffing with medium sausage and it is good. Made three bowels of straight stuffing for the family. Daughter made some green bean casserole and as usual it was good.

Over all it was a good Thanks Giving and I did enjoy it this year.

Happy Thanksgiving to all those around the world celebrating today.

It is a Sunny day on the West Coast and 14c.

Actually, Thanksgiving is celebrated by many countries around the world and was done so long before 1621. I would think the pilgrims that came from Holland to "the new world" just brought the celebration with them and did not invent it when the boat hit Plymouth rock.

Years ago I had an interest in early explorers (before 1621) and according to their logs, ships Captains would try and make landfall and go ashore to celebrate Thanksgiving if able to do so. Also, the Pilgrims were pretty much wearing rags and living off of mostly seafood at the time. Saying life was hard is probably an understatement at best, (I would not have survived)Sad Big hats and shiny buckles were an invention of Walt Disney if I remember my childhood right.Laugh Not sure when turkey became the official fare of the day.

I had mentioned that we bought a new Kingsize mattress at an auction dirt cheap a couple of weeks back. Well, this week we got a brand new $4200.00 lazyboy power recliner loveseat for $300.00. We had gone to Lazyboy to buy a new one and decided to check the auction house first. They had tons of Lazyboy stuff from an out of business retailer. Someone got a huge $8500.00 sectional for $1200.00, still had all the plastic on it. We will need a new fridge soon as ours is getting on at 22 years. Those are plentiful at auctions it seems. I guess a lot of furniture stores are about as successful as restaurants.

Never smoked and didn't ever drink until I was in my thirties. Started to have some decent money by then and started eating in some pretty good restaurants. Wine just made the meal so much better. That being said I think I have only had two drinks in the last three months. That's about the norm these days.

Every person I have personally known that has died from cancer was a smoker. I have and do know nonsmokers with cancer, however, the only ones that haven't recovered have been the smokers, so far.

The wife has been in a painting frenzy for the last two weeks, she knows I refuse to paint so doesn't even ask. I did put new baseboards in the rooms she has done and take off all the outlet covers and such, just don't hand me a paint brush.Grumpy

Well eat heartily all and get on the bike tomorrow.

All the best to all.

Yes Happy Thanksgiving.  First celebrated by the colonists in Massachusetts in 1621, it became an official holiday in New York in 1817 but was mostly a Northern holiday.  It wasn't till Abe Lincoln came along that it became a national holiday at the urging of the author of "Mary had a little lamb"

My spatchcocked turkey just went in the oven.  I just realized we forgot the sauerkraut, a Baltimore/Jewish/German tradition.  Mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry relish, rolls and a pumpkin cheesecake are on the menu.

I tried to slow it down but it hasn't worked.

It will only work, if he really wants it!

Speaking of drinking, gambling and smoking - there is the story of a man who wrote to a ladies´ magazin searching for the "man without a vice", telling them he doesn´t drink, doesn´t smoke nor gambles. He works all day, eats healthy, gets sufficient exercise, goes to bed early and rises early - "but wait, until they let me outta here!"

Happy Thanksgiving Diners,

It's been busy for me for the past two days.

Since the topic of smoking is around. I don't do it, but my dad smokes. It has gotten worst during his retirement he's been smoking at least a box or less a day. Then asking us who has money to buy him some. I tried to slow it down but it hasn't worked.

I don't drink alcohol, I don't really gamble but I really hate it. Wasting good money on machines that don't pay out.

My sister smokes and my brother drinks. I'm glad I'm stable that my hobby keeps me grounded.

Be safe and take care.

To all Folks on the other side of

the Big Pond and SoB!

Here in Germany, Thanksgiving is not much of a holiday at all, in fact, it is not a public holiday.Thanksgiving is celebrated as a special service in church on the first Sunday in October, but that´s about all - no family gathering , but a safe time for turkeys!

Have a happy holiday!

Ed Thank You Thank You Thank You! Bow Bow Looking forward to getting the Might B&O F units on the rail's again.

Not Looking Forward to Thanks Giving This Year. Sue's knee is complete junk! Only been a week Thursday that she had the cortisone shot and it has all ready has worn off. She was in great pain when I came home tonight.

Reason I am not looking forward to Thanks Giving??

 1. I will be doing most of the cooking which I am fine with. But Sue being Sue has to tell me over and over the same thing on how to do it. She just cannot help her self and it drive my daughter and I NUTS!

 2. Left over's. I love Turkey and Stuffing! Problem is the stuffing! Like Ray I have to watch what I eat being diabetic I react badly to bread! Sue wants me to make 6 bowls of Stuffing! Next year we eat out so there are no left overs!

UP 831 Saw your freind request and said yes, but could not find the PM. I will check again but I think it is gone.

Howdy ...

Ulrich ... Yep. The world is crazy. Much of it I suspect is because too many people are gullible instead of skeptical.

Galaxy .... I'm glad you had a safe trip to and from Battle Creek. Since you have so many cousins there, you may consider going back again some day.

I recall being in Battle Creek many times for work when I was with the GTW RR. Battle Creek was a railroad town as much as it was the home of Kellogg's Cereal and Post Cereal. GTW's loco shop there was impressive and so was its freight yard.

 Everybody .... Happy Thanksgiving.

Good evening Diners,

Brunhilda, I'll have a glass of your best Pinot Noir, please.  Tis the Thanksgiving season.

I tried smoking very briefly in high school.  Ran my dads car off the road trying to light up.  Saved by my buddy who had a friend who pulled us out.  The car was undamaged, but I decided right then I didn't need it.  Never picked up or had any desire to pick up a cigarette again, or anything else for that matter.

As for drink, I enjoy a little wine on occasion with food.  I go to a lot of professional functions and I'll have the same glass of wine for the entire event.  Not really what you'd call a party animal, at least not for three decades or more anyway.

I want to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving.  We all have so much to be thankful for.

Ken:  sent you a PM
