CN Same here, my wife said I am never right when I remember something. Must be in the female DNA? Old stuff, well I don't have records. Stuff in the last few weeks like missing bills I am right 98% of the time. She will say I gave you that and it on your desk, will tell her no and back and forth we go. Then she will find the missing bill and bring it out to me.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, a cup of decaf would bve much appreciated at the moment!

Been a long and interesting day.  Actually woke up early this morning, or should I say the cat Manét woke me up early.  He doesn't go by the clock, so I forgave him.....  He just wanted some extra snuggling since I was still in bed.  He got it!

Considered skipping church today as I have a lot of items to get caught up with.  I decided that I needed to be there to make sure the new, old, amplifier I gave to the church was going to work to the satisfaction of the everyone, particularly the choir director.  It did, I guess.  He didn't ask for any adjustments during the service at the beggining so I went down and sat in the center section about 4 pews back from the front.  That seems to be a "sweet" spot where I can understand what is being said and also can read the pastors lips to help as well.  Talked to the choir director after church and he laughed and told me it must have been fine as he didn't remember to check it out until about the last hymn....  I said that means it worked to expectations.  Also told him that even though I can no longer sing in the choir (Bummer) I put on my church survey that I would be interested in playing in a praise group for when they do some of the newer hymns that really need somthing other than the organ.  He lit up and and said great!  Guess I need to get out the guitar and get it back under my fingers again!  They have a flutist/clarinet/sax player (another music teacher, and a new guy in the choir who also plays guitar).  I may just buy another Bass for the group....

Today we celebrated "All Saints" and "All Souls".  They had a reading of all the members names who died over the last year.  About 15 IIRC.  They lit votive candles for each person and invited the family to come forward to do the lighting.  Then came the sermon!  Pastor Deb gave the most moving sermon I have ever heard.  Won't go into detail as it might violate the forum rules, but I will say I had trouble keeping myself composed and had to blow my nose and wipe away tears several times.  Brought back some strong memories that I still need to deal with in my own life I guess.

Prayers for all in need!  That's most of us BTW!

Galaxy there are at least 3 different kinds of skin cancers.  Melanoma and squamous cell are bad and can spread, basal cell is slow growing.  There is a oil painting in my medical school of someone from the 1800's with a basal cell on half his face.  I think there may be a couple pics of the same guy over the years.  Then you can go to the anatomy lab and see his skull.  Pretty weird.

I enjoyed Sharpe's Rifles on tv, tho' the British weren't all that good either.  I remember Wellington giving the order to allow the men to plunder and more for another 1/2 hour then hang one of them.  You can find the whole series on Youtube.

Train front interrupted by a phone call at 8 am and I have a new grandson.

Good Afternoon,

Johnboy, Actually I have a terrible memory according to my wife but remembering your birth date is easy as it is the same as mine. I hope your day was as good. My wife took me out for lunch to our favourite place, 529 Wellington. It is in the old Ashdown mansion, a very ornate place built in 1912. We had a great lunch and a free desert for the special occasion as I turned 70. Hard to believe. Time seems just like a toilet paper roll, it goes faster the closer to the end.

The white stuff has stopped and we have about 5 inches but according to the forecast there is little prospect  that it will melt so it seems we are in for a very long winter here.

Ran trains yesterday and listened to the oldies channel on cable. I had the Mike doing some laps and did a little switching too with the SW8.

James Moon, it seems to me you said you were watching Poldark too. I have a great interest in the history of that period and highly recommend the Sharpe's Rifles series of books by Bernard Cornwell. A TV version was done in the early '90s with Sean Bean as Sharpe. It is very well done. It doesn't paint a very favourable portrait of the French but then again I am a little biased having been raised in a very pro-British family.

Well time to head out for a visit with the MIL.

Whistling

Good evening Gang.

THANKS guys for the birthday wishes. I'll never see 76 again.

I have not stopped in for a while and did not mention my B.D. So C.N. charlie you have a fantastic memory.  You and Gary are very kind.

My sincere sympathies to those who have lost friends and loved ones and those who have family fighting that darned Cancer.  Been there done that... No Fun..

Not much to report from the LM&E, other that I had John down here at Jim's Junction in Billings order in two of the new Atlas covered hoppers for the WP. in red oxide.    I picked them up on Tuesday as we have been down here in Southern Montana, babysitting my Son and DIL's house and pets while they take a belated honeymoon to Hawaii.   I also picked up a very nice Oxford model of a 1953 Buick Roadmaster 2 Dr. hard top.

We  are here for another 4-5 days.  Will finish up a few things that we promised to help them out with as they have really been bombarded with things and work and voluteerism things and then a funeral of a close friend which they had to look after, that some things got a little behind.

Sure would like to hear more from some of those missing in action. Would like to hear more from YGW.  V8 Vega, Tipton Bill, and I'm very glad that Br. Powell, Galaxy, Minnesota Terry and some others have stepped into the diner again.  Does anyone ever hear from or have any info on Choo Choo Willy from Alberta, seems like some just fell off the earth.  Hope they are all ok.

Well that's it for now.  I'm off to ZZZzzzsssland  hope you all have a (good un)  That remembered from  Illinois Southern Jerry Cox.

Sweet dreams of shiney rails in the moonlight and lonesome whistles.

Johnboy out.........................for a while.

Hadn't shovelled snow at home yet, but sure have had to do it here.

Hello all

"FRRYKid"    Yes, They "buryum" in a columbarium wall, not to be confused with a barium enema.... They have one in hte Military cemetary at Bath that my MIL is burried in and my FIl will soon follow. { not in the columbarium, but in a casket in the grave}. The wall does look like PO boxes lined up, but how much space do you need once youve departed? I say Burn me to a crisp, grind up my bones, and [ut the urn in the ground next to mother. My OH agrees. My mohter is in a casket, and my fahter will be burned too, and the urn put at mother's feet.  A nice big marker headstone with my mohters brief tale of life will have the military plaque for my fahter bolted to the back of it. There are three empty spaces for "who ever needs them after I am gone" according to my fahter. Ideally one for me, one for my bro, and one will be left empty but I;ll sell it off after my fahter passes. My bro is not maRRIED, AND LOCKED UP FOr life, won't and if he takes a prison wife, shell have her own im sure. Or she can be placed clear across the country form him in his lot. MY OH will go in an urn next to me. I still think its too much sapce to take up after im gone, but there is no columbarium in that cemetery. Assuming our desire is to come back here after retiring south and not be burried there.

On another morbid thought, CANCER will or has touched eveyones life. EVERYBODY has a relative, themselves or someone they know or someone they know who knows someone with cancer or who survived {or not} cancer. My fathre's mohter died of breast cancer, my mohter's sister died of ovarian cancer, my father's fahter died eventually of complications from prostate cancer, and my fahter has had both skin cancer and survived prostate cancer, some 30 years now, NAd I have had skin cancer.I am third in direct line for prostate cancer, so my urologist {ironically my fahter's urologist} keeps close tabs on my exams as I am now hte age he was whne he found it in my father. I'm not ready for that yet, though. But it comes to pass, like my fahter i plan to beat it like skin cancer, though they are hardly the same type. I have another spot that itches like hades on my leg that i will ask the dermatologist aobut next week. It could be another skin cancer. Im hoping it is, simply cause I know it cna be taken care of, if not, I'd like to know exactly what Im dealing with.

As Ken would say, I'm at work, and it SUCKS RAIL SPIKES! Its dead for a saturday night. All of 16 chech ins. Oops 17, just got another check in. Ive been busy as many ahve families so ive been running bedding for the pull out sofa beds in hte rooms as the beding isn't left in the rooms. SO not too bad i guess. But not busy enough in a room wiht only one rocking chair for a long tailed cat to worry.

Speaking of ghosts and gobblins, we have a permanent guset on the property. He likes to turn on the lights, open the door when no one is near it, and casts visible shadows periodically, and makes noise where none should be, and up to mischief occasionally. Seems benevolent, NOT malevolent, so if he doesn't bother us, we don't bother him. Yes, it is a he, I caught his image in a reflection once. actually more than once. Nice old fellow. They WILl cast images on reflecitons on occasion, if you cathch it quick enough. I can also sense when he is near. On occasion he tampers wiht the conputers. Nothing major. Friedns have an 1850s house wiht a couple of entities not of our realm in it. One is a mischeivious boy, who actually shows up in a circa 1900 photo. One is na old younger farm hand who passes through, Ive caught him more than once. The adopted son of one of the couple, decided to take a ouija board there and play. It got too spooky for them so they stopped, They were playing in the basement. He got really scared when he was showering after and the shower curtain got fully pulled all the wAY back open.....and there was absolutely no one in the bathroom with him behind locked door!!! That cured him of the ouija board, and made him a believer.

I guess I;ll take one of Steven Otte's nestly crunch bars, Its about the only thing I cna eat that won't pull my teeth out, the fake ones that is. The nerds are spoken for, and the snickers, and others though I love thm, will pull my teeth out.

Hmm, Unless i missed it, MR B hasn't been in in a while.

Good thing I brought my magaznes to read, i'd be bored stiff, of course i havbe my pone and do things on it instead of the computer. Still cannot figure out why I cannot get on this site via my cell phone, where once I could.

AOl has updated adn apparently screwed up the program. WE don't like it according to MY OH, but I ahve yet to try it, I am on google now. No AOL here at work. I guess I will ahve to spend a day with AOL on the phone talking to India to find out how to usae the durn new system. if its going to be a hassle, I think we stop using aol, and quit paying for it.

Well, got a lost guest on their way here, so Theyll be checking in in aobut 5 mins if they follow the dirextions i gave them, so best get off here......

Later dudes,

Prayers for those who need them.

Siphoned the carp out and then refilled the tank

I'll bet the carp wasn't too happy about that!

Evenin' folks!

Janie just a refill for my decaf please....

I was beginning to think they had closed the place and locked the doors..... I spent the day getting odds and ends done that shjouod have been done days ago.  even cleaned up one of my aquariums (The 55 gal.).  Scaped the sides down.  The algae buildup was so bad I couldn't into the tank at all.  Siphoned the carp (ah...  crap that is!  Yep, they are tropical fish not carp...) out and then refilled the tank (about 10 gallons worth) with new treated water.  Cleaned the very dirty filter out nad have it looking fairly good.  Printed out the newlsetters that still need to be mailed (I have a few in the NMRA Division who still haven't joined the 21st. century, and probably won't...).  They are all assembled, stamped and ready to mail out ASAP.

Nice little plane there, Bear!

About ready to set the clocks back an hour and head out to sleep.  I can certainly use an extra hour of sleep!

We are under a Flash Flood watch again here in the Finger Lakes....

Garry, no we don’t have Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin on the TV, but of course, Peanuts was syndicated in several newspapers here, down under. As young teenager I even had a poster on the wall depicting Snoopy in full flying gear, sitting on a Lockheed F 104 Starfighter, with an extremely startled looking Charlie Brown hanging on for grim death, exclaiming “GOOD GRIEF!!!”

What is celebrated at this time of year is “Guy Fawkes Night” which commemorates the failure of the Gunpowder Plot, in 1605, to blow up the English Houses of Parliament and kill King James 1 and Members of Parliament.

When I was young, a guy was burnt on a bonfire, potatoes cooked in the embers, sausages on a stick above the embers and letting off of fireworks. Now, the move to ban the sale of fireworks to the general public, is getting stronger, though to be fair, since my kids grew up, I haven’t bought any fireworks.
Without upsetting Vinnie, there is a saying about Guy Fawkes, “He was the last man to enter Parliament with honest intentions.”

And in the similar bit different category, the only recognisable treat in Stevens bowl is the Snickers bar!

Yes, cancer sucks, I lost another good mate last month, only 62!

That looks an interesting video Ken, I’ll definitely have a look when I catch up on life!!

And this is one for the aeroplane spotters amongst us. My job yesterday was to give this Aero Engine Services Ltd Airtourer Super 160, ZK-DBD, her annual “birthday”.

She was walking to work at Pop Eyes Fried Chicken and stopped by to see what we have in the way of full sizes sets of mattress under $200.00? Answer is none and she went to work.

Hey all.  Hope everyone is having a better day than I am.

Job hunting: The second after I applied for jobs today- they rejected both saying "Applications are currently closed".  So back to square 1.   I've got such a headache from this.  Nothing against my current job, but I need a second one just to make ends meet.

Health: bad Panic attack from above cause.  Asthma attack from it to.

Trains: Let a Sperry inspection car go...was on ebay for 30 bucks...kicking myself since I've always wanted one. My Presentation for the division meeting is on the 19th, so there's that at least I can look forward to.

yeah...hope everyone is doing better than I am right now.

Hello Folks...

I hope everyone is doing okay in this first weekend of November.

How about we skip over a few towns and visit the great Kinzua bridge... before it blew over!

Can you imagine something THAT size just tipping over (with a little help from 94 MPH winds!)

Evenin' folks!

Janie, I could sure use a cup of decaf right now.....  Bo, nothing else, had a large supper earlier.

Ken, thanks.  The obituary didn't really say how he died, but I'm thinking possible stroke....  It read, "The obituary read, "we, his family, share that he experienced a natural death progression surrounded by our love on October 31"  and the fact that the hospital where he died is known for Stroke rehab... A friend of mine in the NMRA just was just transfered from there and he had a major stroke...

One thing I didn't mention yesterday but was a front page story in the local paper was that a friend of mine from church (His Grandson just recieved his Eagle) who is a well know scupter and Art Professor at a nearby University, just had his workshop burn to the ground.  Total loss they say....

Sorry to hear of so many in here who are dealing with illnesses and other difficult things!  Will keep all of you in my prayers!

Good Evening,

A sunny, cool day here but tonight we are supposed to get hit with the white stuff and a fair bit of it. It is just too early for me.

Inch, I was wondering how you were doing and was so sorry to read your news.

Henry, I sure hope your wife's cancer can be treated successfully. That form runs in my wife's family so she is always worried that she will be next. Luckily her mother and 2 aunts had an early diagnosis and successful treatment.

Johnboy, Happy Birthday!!! Hope you had a nice day.

Ran a train the other day and likely will do so again tomorrow.

Well time for tea and tellie.

BATMAN

Yesterday my sister went to an "inurnment" of a friend that died from breast cancer. She said her urn was placed in what looked like a large panel of postal boxes at the cemetery.

From your description, that sounds like what is called a columbarium wall. (I did have to double ckeck the spelling.) The only reason I am familar with them is that, at one point, my late Grandfather's remains were going to be interred into one that was going to be built here. It never was (they were eventually interred in a regular gravesite) but I remember the theory. (I also remember that my Mom insisted on calling it a columbine wall. A columbine is a flower. There is another famous unfortunate memory behind that name. I won't mention it as I'm afraid it would start a problem and I don't want Vinnie on my back.)

Flo, JP, Gary, Inch, Ed, Brent, Bear, Angelob, Jan, Ray and I will have a Beer please.

JP Good to see you back in the dinner. Sorry to here about your mother. Glad to read you meet a wonderful woman.

Ray Allso sorry you lost a friend to the big C. To bad you lost touch with him. Odd how friends drift apart. I lost 95 % of my friends when I got out of the body shop bussines.

Did more running today. Picked up the still broken wife car from Bob's. Took her to a couple of stores, picked up meds and went to the Library so I will have something to do at work! Sigh If I did not do so much running around on my day off, maybe I feel more like do things around the house.

Good morning from the snowy West Coast of the Great White North.

We got about 5cm of the white stuff last night. I don't usually stop cutting the grass until the end of November. I haven't blown out the irrigation pipes yet as I usually also do that after the last lawn cutting. I hope they haven't frozen.

I have dibs on the Smarties and Aero bars if there are any left.

Steven mentioned moving to New Zealand. I have thought about moving there many a time. New Zealand is consistently rated as having the highest quality of life of any country on the planet. It is an absolutely beautiful place and I was not ready to leave when the time came. I hope to get back there at least one more time for a nice long stay before I croak.

Yesterday my sister went to an "inurnment" of a friend that died from breast cancer. She said her urn was placed in what looked like a large panel of postal boxes at the cemetery. That's not for me. I want to be chucked into the chuck so I can travel the world on the tides. This lighthouse is across the inlet from Vancouver and I told the family to dump me in here, on the outgoing tide.

We also have been recently surrounded by people with cancer. My father-in-law just got over bone cancer, two good friends of my wife were informed two days apart they had six months to live and our very best friend is battling bowel cancer. My father-in-law is a very fit 82 year old and was told being lean and fit was probably what cured him more than anything. The other three are packing way to much weight and two of them smoke so nuff said.

Ray, I think the work you do for the MLK scholarship fund is awesome. Canada is lagging behind the rest of the first world when it comes to funding post-secondary education, hopefully, that will change. I have been to countries where even elementary school had to be paid for. Most kids don't go to school for that reason. Needless to say, so goes the education so goes the country. I think it will happen in the next few years. There was a story on the news the other night about how much scholarship money goes unclaimed every year in Canada. It is there for the asking. My kid spent hours on the computer looking for funds he could apply for and has reaped the reward for doing so. The local East Indian community had over a $100,000.00 still available to kids that contribute to the betterment of the community through volunteer work. I just don't get it.

Well best get back to putting my office back together, we model railroaders can sure collect a lot of junk in a relatively short time.Laugh

All the best to all.

Morning diners,

If there's a reese peanut butter cup I'll have one with a twix, thanks Steven. But I'll save it for tomorrow.

I finished going to the dentist. For my small cavities and crown.

Layout Construction 6:

I taped up the hole where the bridge will be located with duct tape so the sculptamold wouldn't run to the floor.

I misplaced my brown paint so I used all of it from a art studio kit. Including a reddish tan paint for the decorated combed hills. I need more of that paint since I ran out.

Wishes for everybody in the diner.

I may not have any leftover Halloween candy at home, but the stores sure do. Dig in. Virtual candy has no sugar, fat, or calories.

My condolences and best wishes to all those in the Diner with family members touched by cancer. My wife's mother is waging her third battle against lymphoma right now, and we have our fingers crossed for her.

Bear .... Does that mean you people in NZ do not have Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin on TV ? .. LOL

Sounds like a good reason to move there.

Halloween is not traditionally celebrated in New Zealand, though the retail outlets are promoting the commercial aspects more and more each year, which is why I’ll always be a Halloween Grinch.

Dianne and I haven't given out anything for Halloween for several years. It's not because we are cheap, it's because we were the only house on our side of the street that was doing it, and we decided that making the few kids we got cross the somewhat busy street wasn't worth the risk. We used to do up treat packs for our friends' younger kids but they are all past that stage now. The good thing is, like Stephen, we are not tempted by having candy in the house.
