One more advantage of DCC not yet discussed here: constant voltage on the rails. I thought of this in the thread on in-cab video cameras. It also makes passenger car lighting, constant headlights and all that stuff a doddle.

you seem to have compleatly missed my point about traffic on roads. i know people have already hidden wires under streets and you can buy busses and lorries that will follow them. but it is all extreamly crude. the bus does one thing-it follows the wire. some people have even made them stop at bus stops. but i have never seen a traffic jam occour on an ho layout. i have never even seen a string of vehicles pull away from a traffic light. i have never seen a vehicle automatically return to a charging area because its battery is flat. i have never seen multiple vehicles take the same or different routes.

as for the criticisms about the smoke machines. i have little doubt that they were not set up properly. you cant buy properly motorised synchronised smoke machines at the moment and certainatly not dcc controled yet. they need an awfull lot of work before they look correct. this involves drilling various holes in then to provide larger oil resevoires and for diesels they need fans built in to give the plumes required.
as i said in my origional posting i belive this is where the advances lye in the next few years.

i am yet to adopt DCC but when the decoders hit £5 i'l do it.

You reckon? The loco I used to fire had "cruise control" - we used a bungee cord to hold the throttle open in a certain position...

Hmmmm...28 members in our club, about half of the members own thier own DCC systems, the other half are all planning on purchasing systems, and EVERYONE has decoder equipped engines.

Also if MRC was so darned sure about DC, they wouldn't be monkeying around in DCC. My only other thought on that is that its a crying shame that MRC cant seem to make a serious attempt at DCC products, all thier stuff I consider sub par at this time.
