So, it's that time again, Weekend Photo Fun. For those who are not familar with it, WPF is a weekly thread that runs over the weekend, to show off what we have been working on project wise, or in the rare exception of some prototype photos.
Myself, presently I am working on a parts list for my next Wheeling project 2662-The painted lady. So I haven't done anything. Ill share a previous old photo.
104 is a kitbash, and 303 is a decal job. Let's see what everyone else has been working on.
(My Model Railroad, My Rules)
These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway. As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).
Thanks for kicking off the WPF thread, Jimmy! I really admire that Wheeling "Speed Lettering"... nice!
How about a nod and a mention of Canada Day in the title, too, Jimmy? We have lots of friends North of the 49th here
I don't have any recent photos to post but I'll stop back in a day or so...
Regards, Ed
Jimmy, thanks for starting us up, nice consist of W&LE Power!
I managed to get a couple of cars done this week!
Going back in time for a C&O 1937 AAR Boxcar Kit by Intermountain Railway. Substituted a Viking Roof from Des Plaines Hobbies along with Sill Steps from Yarmouth Model Works. Painted car with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red and Black Paints, then decaled with Speedwitch Media Decals. The prototype cars was built in 1936 and this car is in its original paint scheme, versus an earlier car I did with a 1950's repaint.
Moving ahead to the 1970's, this is an Intermountain Railway PS 4750 CF Covered Hopper kit, painted with Scalecoat II UP Hopper Car Gray, then lettered with Oddballs Decals. Prototype was built in 1974 and leased to the Grain Terminal Association for grain service in the midwest.
Thanks for looking!

Rule 1: This is my railroad.
Rule 2: I make the rules.
Rule 3: Illuminating discussion of prototype history, equipment and operating practices is always welcome, but in the event of visitor-perceived anacronisms, detail descrepancies or operating errors, consult RULE 1!
All the diesel projects from last week are complete.
The FP-7 was finished first, this being a bit of a 2 for 1 project since 907 one of a couple FP-7s that were briefly leased by the New Hope and Ivyland at different points in time.
And the GP-7 was then completed with decals showing up a little faster then expected. Numbered in reference to my mothers love of all horror movies. I suppose I have a good halloween engine now too, but it was an actual Reading GP-7 aswell.
And finally 9 (a US Army 0-6-0) is all dressed up for the 4th of July weekend.

Nice work so far, fellows. Got a few teasers here for an upcoming thread on my large scale Telluride & Tin Cup.

Ah-ha, one critter confronts another critter as it's the return of The Startled Hare, now in operational form!
Yep, figured out the front truck rigging after my RC receiver arrived. Lights are coming a little later...

Modeling CNR in the 50's
Last year I learned a number of modelers had created a town named Willoughby, inspired by a classic Twilight Zone episode. My version of Willoughby is a lakeside summer resort town in southern New York. Below is a shot of the gazebo on the village green.
Trying an alternative, so here’s an old one of the ferry from the “new” archives. (I hope).
Cheers the Bear.

Jimmy, Thanks for the WPF roll-out, nice trio of stripe noses.
One of my favorite times of the year, 4th of July picnics, hot afternoons, tomatos on the vine and the start of Le Tour!
Thanks to all and Happy Independence Day! Regards, Peter
Hello everyone, good job and nice stimulating projects here.
I'm a first time poster in this thread.
This is a kitbash I did converting an old 33ft. Baby Ruth boxcar
I used rattle can spray paint (main body), acrylic paints and chalk pastels for weathering. Decals were made on my computer using images downloaded from the internet.
Thank you
Serge

Yes it is powered. I don't ever remember running it though. Now it would need a decoder.
Not much photo fun this week. I guess the PhotoBucket problem has a lot to do with that.

I am just working on decals for my EM-1 locomotive.
Waiting for paint to dry on other projects.

This locomotive is on my wish list. I always get outbid when one comes up for auction. I have a picture of it on Cajon Pass. It was painted for the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. Seems like it was just the other day.
Hate to tell you but this is an Athearn Foobie, the SP never owned any SD40-2's, the prototype was an SD40. You can make your own with either an Athearn SD40 or Kato SD40. and Microscale makes the decal.
Nice work by those who could post photos.
Casey.... I alwys admire your locomotive models. .... If you don't mind, I would appreciate help on how to post from Flickr. It was easy to upload a photo into my new Flickr account, but I can't find a code to post here. I copy a code and post it in the mountain icon here in the MR posting menu. I can't find the right combination. Perhaps you can explain how you do it in the thread about alternatives to PhotoBucket.... Thanks

Hi, Fella's and Thanks Again for the send-off, Jimmy!
Great contributions—as usual—folks. Happy belated Canada Day to my friends in the Provinces and a Happy Independence Day for us in the US.
I hope you gentlemen arent getting too tired of seeing the old P.O. building! Believe me, I'll be glad to get this elephant off my bench and move on to the next project... I'm on the home stretch
The final interior partitions and wiring are in. I only have one of these "cobra-head" light fixtures on hand and they are pretty much "unobtanium" these days.
I placed it over the main entrance.
The next step was to get the signage attached to the brick work. I printed a guide to help with the kerning and alignment of the letters.
There was a Parcel Post Annex on Cleveland's Lakefront, known to the railroaders as the "Mail Hall". It had big silver letters on the front just like you see here.
In addition, I printed some Fallout Shelter and NO Trespassing signs. The No Trespassing sign is a photo of a sign I have hanging in my layout room!
I'm not sure I'll keep the WPA sign. It was left there from a much earlier era...
Finally, I'm fitting the roof panels in place. A wee bit of fancy work with the elastic bands was needed.
Looks like something out of a medieval torture chamber!
With any luck I'll be able to share photos of the building FINALLY in place...
Thanks for all the great contributions, Folks.
Awsome build Ed, If I may ask were did you get the letters for the building? They are dead on for a US postal building.
Randy
Hi, Randy—
Thanks for your compliments! Building structures is one of my favorite aspects of the hobby...
Those letters are from Plastruct. Set No. PABT-10 Part # 96004. Several sizes are available. The label on my set says 5/16" but the web site says they are 25/64" (splitting hares) probably close to 10mm.
https://plastruct.com/product-category/glues-tools-and-accessories/plastic-vinyl-letters/
I bought them years before I thought I was going to use them on this building but, I agree with you, they are just right for US Government buildings.
The smaller sizes are handy for signs and billboards, too.
Thanks again!
Ed

Back in service on my HOm scale Swiss narrow gauge RhB Engiadina layout!
I am pleased to see that my newly set up free Imgur account appears to be working, after Photobucket decided to extort $400 for 3rd party hosting from me.
Since it's July 4th, I thought I would throw in pictures of my Bi-Centennial Locomotives I own!
DT&I #1776 along with a standard GP38-2, the only 4 digit numbered loco on the DT&I, and the only Bi-Centennial painted by EMD.
N&W SD45 #1776
EL SDP45 #3638, painted in Bi-Centinneal colors but not renumbered.

Not at all, Ed. It's both fascinating and informative to see the progress. Kind of like watching a real life structure go up.
Nice to see all the late entries to WPF as everyone is finding alternatives to Photobucket. I was beginning to worry that we might see a drop off in contributions but it seems people are finding alternatives. I realize that PB's policy change is going to make photos posted to past threads unavailable but going forward things should be just fine.
I just made what will probably be my last visit to the PB website. Most of the photos I had posted to their website I have stored on multiple hard drives. A few years ago I lost a hard drive and with it a lot of photos of my dogs when they were puppies. Then I remembered I had uploaded a lot of them to PB and was able to recover them. Now everything is on hard drives and backed up. Bye-bye, Photobucket. You've outlived your usefullness.
Some red, white, and blue.
May I ask a question here?
On the Imgur site, does "host your images without publishing them" mean that your images are secure until posted to another site?
Thanks
Lee
These are really old but I thought I'd share them today. This is one of the first scenes that I made after a few years away from the hobby.

Happy Independence Day everyone!
You go to Imgur.com and you are looking at a bunch of pictures that somebody took. I would call that publishing. It's the internet, nothing is truly secure.
