Easy DIY Dummy Motor for Diesel Electric Locomotives

I was recently inspired by another railroaders post to begin a little project involving one of my recently deceased Milwaukee Road U25b unit. I began cutting the shell into three sections, the cab, engine bay, and tail, leaving the ends in place before proceeding to scratchbuild a mock up engine and generator from a small tic tac container, using the top of the box as the air filter unit, while cutting the lower section in half to formt eh engine block, gluing the top onto the short side of the half box, setting the cut side into the frame of the locomotive. The next step was the generator and turbo, which I simply fashioned from part of a straw about a cm long for the turbo, which i glued to the front side of the airfilter, and using a pipe plug that fit within the width of the shell to form the generator, gluing is on the backside of the engine to cover the opening. Once these were complete, I proceeded to use Testors blue gloss to color the engine after gluing strips of cardboard to the sides to form the crankcase access panels. I will post pictures of my finished product post haste, but feel free to use my steps to make your own mock up engine for the diesel workshop on your layout.Body ClosedBody Open
