Where Do I Find A HO N&W 611 DCC Ready for Sale?
Posted by starman on Friday, November 18, 2016 5:51 PM
Does anyone know of a HO scale N&W 611, DCC ready and perhaps sound ready, for sale at a reasonable price?  I can’t seem to find one but perhaps I am just not looking in the right place.  Thanks.

Type in the search words on Google to see if anything comes up or check ebay.

I wasn't looking for a specific engine, just a cheap BLI J Class.  I got #607 in the Stealth Series from BLI, but on eBay.  My techie friend put in a decoder, and it has been a star on my fleet ever since.

BLI, if you can find one, makes a great 611.

I have found several sites on line that advertise BLI J class for around $250 but everybody seems to be out of stock.  Has BLI actually sold a J class recently?  Are they still made?

I have an old Bachmann N&W J Class I purchased in the late 80's or early 90"s that has never been run.  It has an old pancake motor.  Can this old engine be convereted to a DCC engine?

I swear the modeltrainstuff link was in stock at the time of the post.  Somebody here beat you to it.

BLI website says "order from you dealer" http://www.broadway-limited.com/paragon2nandwjclass.aspx

Has the OP parked himself on eBay yet? Lots of Class J's there, are the late Bachmann should have Sound, DCC, and a decent mechanism.

There are other options.

starman, the Original Poster. (I'm not smart enough to come up with "OP" for original poster so it's a borrowed term)

Thanks!  Now I don't feel to smart that I didn't guess what it meant.  I am the OP!  I am keeping my eye on eBay but so far have only seen older Bachmann stuff that is not DCC.  I actually have an older Bachmann J Class with a pancake motor.  I have been told the pancake motor is the problem for DCC.  I was also told it may be possible to convert it to DCC but it would take a lot of time and a knowledge of electronics at a level I probably don't have.

It was suggested I “parked” myself on eBay.  I did and finally came across a new in box Bachmann Spectrum N&W J Class DCC ready.  After making an offer and a short negotiation we arrived at a very reasonable price with free shipping. I am very pleased with what I purchased.

Thanks!  I will. I remembering many evenings my dad taking me just a few blocks from where I grew up to see a real J Class pull into Norfolk, Va.

Is the N&W one of your favorite railroads?

Yes.  My father worked for N&W in their car repair shop in Norfolk, VA until he was let go during the great depression.  I actually grew up very close to the Lamberts Point yard which is the end of the line for the 300 plus car coal trains.  This yard is where they dumped their load to be loaded onto ships and exported.  I remember, barely, riding around the yard on steam engines in the early 50's with an uncle who was a hostler.
