Changing Diesel Logo and Number

Is there an easy way to remove the factory painted logos and numbers from the sides of Atlas, Athearn, Bachmann, and Kato diesels with out ruining the paint job underneath?

I would like to know since I have to renumber and re-decal a few...

Whatever solutions are suggested, keep in mind not all paint from all manufacturers is the same. What might work on one firm's models may not work on others.

I've had success in the past in removing numbers by using cotton swabs (Q-tips) dipped in the decal setting solution Solvaset, which is a mild acid. But this has not worked on all models - I tried this on two Bachmann steam engines, and it wore the paint right down to the bare plastic.

I've heard that 90% alcohol will work on some models, but haven't tried it myself.

Whatever that is suggested - try it first on a safe location.

Silkscreen is a process to print ink on a surface, it is not a material/paint. And here again it depends upon what type of ink/paint is used to add the lettering or logos. Also what kind of paint is underneath.

My friend, CMarchand, has had good results using Solvaset.

Suggestion: Don't use 91% Alcohol! It's great for stripping paint, so it would very likely take the numbers off.......along with the paint.

You are right, I mean it is not a decal but some paint or ink applied to the model by the silkscreen method.
