I just received this Spektrum 4-4-0, it was on sale cheap, includes sound.
I forgot just how detailed the Spectrum are, it comes with an alternate set of domes, pilots, pilot trucks as well as another set of wheels and trucks for the tender.
Don, my BS 4-4-0 is my favourite engine. It came with a wood load for the tender as well as coal. I would like to find a balloon stack for it and put the wood load in the tender, however I have been unable to find one.
I paid $220.00 U.S. for mine at "The Favorite Spot". DCC with sound.
One thing to watch out for is the wiring between the tender and engine can drag on the rails and eventually short out. I have a thread on the whole episode somewhere. Apparently I was not the only one that had the problem.
Mine pulls this work train around the layout for hours on end while I work on it.
I would like to buy a couple more if I can find them for a good price.

I just checked my misc Bachmann parts bin to see if I might have a balloon stack. I had forgotten that Bachmann often included addtional parts on thier undecorated engines.
Unfortunately no balloon stack. I have a bunch of chains, numerous boiler fronts, a large assortment of bells and headlights, some oil tank conversion plates, a bunch of pilots from yard pilots to snowplow pilot, some trailing trucks and also classification/running lights and of course different wheels sets for the pilots and also wheels sets for the tenders.
I forgot which Bachmann steam came with the snowplow pilot, I am guessing but I think it was the limited addition 2-8-0 that came with the Vandy tender, I got an undecorated set, the other set was I believe a Union Pacific engine.
This is the Rogers engine, I see that there is another of the large web based with a store even that has a $99.00 sale on the Baldwin engines, that is DCC no sound.

Yes the Bachmann Spec. 4-4-0 is a nice model. I wouldn't say I hate it, but my 4-4-0 was a replacement for my beloved Bachmann spec 4-6-0. I'm still unhappy to this day.

Just picked one up today for 120. A hobby shop going out of business had a 60% off everything left in store. Originally 325.00 so i am guessing it has dcc and sound on it. Had to run into work so had no time to play. Cant wait to get home in 8 days to check it out. Also got a 2-6-0 spectrum that is still highly detailed not the new detail less one. Original 125 for 60 something.

If I had a problem with any of my spectrum 4-6-0's and had to send it to Bachmann for replacement and I had to pick either a new less detailed 4-6-0 or one of the more detailed 4-4-0's I am not sure which I would choose, probably go with the new 4-6-0, mabe not. Gee tough choice.

Thanks for the link, will be getting a few of these kits, they really look like quality kits. I had completely forgotten about the Kanamodel kits.

Well, the older 4-6-0 had more detail, and the older one with sound was $149 when I bought it while the new one is $249 withoutb sound.
Im not paying 100 more for a less detailed, sound VALUE loco.

Well the orig 4-6-0 with sound is listed as $549 so I think you got the nonsound version(which is $349).
Didnt you test run it before you bought it?
Bachmanns original prices are always over priced.
If it did come with the original box, a blue box would have sound, while a black box would not.
That one at trainworld is a real good deal. If you look at the photo you can see the wiring harness hanging down. It needs to be tacked up so it doesn't wear through the insulation and short out like mine did. It is something I will now check on all my future steamers. All part of the learning curve.
I just saw this loco at The Favorite Spot with sound for $157. Only one road name though. Did not say sound value.

Slit the plastic tube off both harnesses so the wires are more flexible and tucked them up a little.
I bought the Athearn Roundhouse 4-4-0, 2-6-0 and 2-8-0 about the same time. All the same size loco/tender except for the drivers. They are very plain compared to the Bachmann.

Actually what I did was put a dab of CA on the plastic tube and stuck it to the post that the tender attaches to. This prevented the wires from rubbing on anything. I took it off once by simply running an Xacto knife between the two and it came right off. I then glued it back on and it has never come unglued after many hours of service.
