MTH HO Triplex 2-8-8-8-2 tender drive wheels locked up?
Posted by BumpyJack68 on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 12:21 PM

HI all.

I just purchased the MTH Erie 2-8-8-8-2. Running a Powerhouse Pro system. Set up is a bit daunting. And the manual is not correct. I think I have it figured out. However the tender drive wheels are locked up. Doesn't make sense as they are free wheeling (not connected to a motor)

Anuone had this problem and know of a fix? Thanx.

Most likely, the valve gear is hung up somewhere. Roll it on its back carefully. The go around to each rod and other piece of valve gear. See if any are tight with a gentle tugging with your tweezer. If oine is bound up, that's where the issue us. Also observe closely for any pins or screws that have backed off, as they can catch on what's rotating around them.

I agree with Mike, there has to be something not allowing the wheels and side rods to move. Also look for a bent rod, even if it's slight.

I have the triplex and it's an incredible locomotive to watch running.

Good luck

Thanks guys. I messed with the tender drive wheels and now they work.

I can't figure out the NCE pro Cab to get into function buttons above 0?10? Is there a shift key and how would I use it to get to, say F12 to shut the smoke off? Thanks again.

Bottom right corner of the Procab.  White letters say SHIFT with a white line going to the left that tells you which buttons are F10, 11, 12 (basically the bottom row of buttons).
