Extra sharp hon30 switches
Posted by John Busby on Monday, January 18, 2016 4:05 AM

Hi all

egger bahn used to do switches that where horendously sharp the curved turnout

track had a radius of about 6" ie very very sharp.

Bear in mind this is narrow gauge industrial track and the real thing had horible sharp curves.

Does anyone know of a modern manufacturer of similarly horible sharp HOn30

switches I have not had any luck finding any.

regards John

Peco has announced a set of rather sharp HOn30/OO9 turnouts, although not as sharp as the Egger-Bahn switches. The turnouts (product codes Peco ST-U404 and 405 for left hand and right hand) are based on the brand´s N scale set track #1 radius (that´s 9"), but not yet available in the market. They have been announced for almost a year now, so it shouldn´t be too long for them to show up.

Hi Sir Madog

Back to the drawing board again I am going to have to steal 6" from somewhere

I had hoped some one still did 6" radius points the small stuff I have would go round it.

But then again if I can find the extra 6" and something bigger catches the eye that can go round as well, its only one area that is a space issuie.

So will have to see if a bump can be put in the side without being a problem for getting passed it.

Howdy, John,

Assuming that you have need for only one or two such turnouts, have you considered rolling your own?

I have hand-laid 9mm gauge code 55 turnouts, and doubt that the very tight radius would give me a problem.  If I can bend appropriate flex track to the route and my stock will run on it, I can build it.  (When I build my mine trams I will be hand-laying 6mm and 7.5mm gauge with Code 25 and Code 40 rail, including swinging-point turnouts and some truly horrendous curve radii.)

Actually, I thought you were addressing a different situation, which I have, and have learned to deal with.  The points that snug up to my un-notched stock rails are razor sharp - you do NOT run fingers along the rails into facing points!

Have you looked at Roco track?

I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.

I don't have a leg to stand on.

Hi Dschmitt

No I had not thought of Roco I should have OOP's

I am currently waiting for an email from reynaulds after enquiring about Roco field railroad points

fingers crossed.

But having to re plan around  area is not a big issuie finding extra space is

hopefully that need is going to be fixed.

I have old Shinohara turnouts somewhere in HOn30 that are crazy sharp, have to look for them.

   Have fun with your trains
