Gidday All, it was pleasing to see a couple of new contributors to the last WPF and also that WPF could be accessed direct from the MR Facebook page.

So as a “hats off” to Mikes Hon3 locomotive coasting down the grade, a chap bought some of his On30 stuff, which due to the generous clearances on the Club HO layout, was able to putter around the main.

 Looking forward to the really Good Stuff.

Thanks for the appreciation. It'll be hard to top that one this week, but whichever week it is, I contribute to share with y'all first and foremost.

That is a fine looking train and one that must bring its owner considerable enjoyment.

BTW, I've got some questions about pine logging in New Zealand perhaps you can help with? Will start a thread on it in the next couple of days.

Good morning from rainy and mild Northeast Ohio!

Bear, nice picture - have some HO narrow guage stuff and will someday get to it.

Mike, I like the Black FT Units, different from the normal yellow/silver/black.

Terry, nice chair I have an old office chair for myself, it was free and comfortable.

Finally finished some cars this week!

Second Rock Island Evans Rebuild of old 1944 AAR Boxcars from various railroads. Made a new side sill as they were reinforced for the application of the 8' Door on the car. Car is a Branchline 1944 AAR Boxcar kit, did not install the roofwalk and changed out the plastic sill steps for A-line sill steps.  Painted car with a mixture of Floquil PC Green darkened with Dark Green Paint. Lettered car with decals by Mask Island Decals.

Atlas 52' Blue Island Reefer kit, painted with Scalecoat II B&M Blue Paint and lettered with Herald King Decals.

Made good progress on the backdrop and started on lighting this week:

The bridge up front is new too-- still have to make supports for it. I made two more to be installed on the adjacent tracks crossing the river.

Terry: I need one of those! The old office chair I use for my "subterranean" On3 area is falling apart.

Rick: Beautiful work on the cars,as usual.

pt714: Good looking river area,and the "flow" of your trackwork looks good,too.

DJ: Excellent rock work and vegetation - a very convincing scene.

George:Very close paint jobs.I've seen both many times before,never made the connection.

After some derailing issues with the tender(a little weight in the coal bunker fixed that),the 480 is ready for service:

This week I completed a couple more projects for Boothbay

A coal loader for the narrow gauge servicing area. It was originally 30' tall which seemed too big for 2' gauge, so I lowered it by 5 feet

Chemical tank HOKX56555 which is Hooker Chemical, but lettered for Atlantic (Which I assume is Atlantic Refining). It is an old AHM model that I cleaned up, weighted to NMRA standard, added Kadee couplers and trucks, and lightly weathered

 I keep meaning to get around to finally scratch building new coachs for my railroads... Maybe they'll feature winners of the Medal of Honor from my home state, or else soldiers of personal significance on the name plates.

Joseph Strapac comments about it in Rio Grande Diesels Vol 1, that EMD used some of the same patterns when painting and the MEC and D&RGW were same except colors used.  D&RGW later added yellow to the nose to make the diesels more visible as they were relatively quiet when approaching grade crossings and needed to be seen.  The next models EMD build for D&RGW were the F3's and they were delivered with yellow noses and the FT's were all repainted in the mid-1940's.

Mike, Those FTs look great roaming through the desert scenery.

Terry, your seating looks better than mine. But if its a cup holder you're after, go to Dollar General, buy a car cup holder, cut off the hook and screw it to the layout fascia. I have several of these.

Rick, you're rolling stock looks great as always.

George, You're F Units look great and so does the layout.

This week I have been busy in Gallitzin. I mocked up the houses on the hillside.

I also mocked up the Route 53 overpass at the far end of town.

A fews weeks ago I wrote about the ''fun'' of re wiring my layout. This week, it's all about the ''fun'' to ballast the tracks. A few more dozen of hours and I will be done with it.

Thanks Bear for starting things off again this week. A lot of great modeling and photography again this week.

Its been housekeeping time on the BRVRR the past couple of weeks. I finally got around to dusting everything, sprucing up the trees a bit and cleaning the track.

Some time ago, I posted pictures of my Swiss friend´s layout in WPF. He has been working on the scenery since then and is now ready to "let the grass grow"

Anyone familiar with the prototype location at Ospizio Bernina on the Rhaetian Railway will see how really close this model is to the real thing!

Thanks for all the kind comments on my troop train. It's about my "oldest" standard gauge consist. Used to be ABBA power up front, but the motor died in my other FT A, so now it's really slow up the grades. Jim has it right on the cookie-cutter approach that EMD took to the paint scheme. Unlikely it ever happenened, but would've been interesting to have seen the MEC units lashed up with the Rio Grande's. The Pullman troop  and kitchen cars were surplused off starting in 1947, so both them and the motive power are a bit anachronistic for the roughly 1960-1974 time frame on my layout. Let's just say they're  a "heritage" consist.

Prior to 1955, B&M and MEC E and F units could be seen together sometimes. The 2 compamies were under common ownership back then and everything was pained the same.

As to the motor on the FT A, if it is Athearn there are a number of drop-in replacement motors out there, maybe even better than the original. There may fot other manufacturers F units as well

It's a Stewart, so maybe an Athearn-like motor might fit. Probably be a downgrade from whatever Stewart put in. The FT isn't a Kato drive, but likely a Kato clone. Most importantly, I want it to run well together with the other FT AB that still runs. I think replacement motors are available, but IIRC cost is around $40, so thought I'd just wait until I can find another complete FT (or at least just the FT A) and buy that for a parts queen.

No pictures from me. I'm in a modelling rut. I haven't sat down at the workbench for a week or more. I was working on my second mahogany launch but after five tries I couldn't get the base colour right so I've put it on hold for now. No word on the decals for the McKeen car but I'm still patient.

However, I have been working on the benchwork design for my layout (using 3rdPlanIt) and it is actually starting to make sense. I have figured out a number of solutions to problems which previously had me scratching my head. I actually have a plan for building the two helices as well as the approach tracks for both the tops and the bottoms, and I have figured out how to build the benchwork around all of that. I also have figured out how to build a rather steep mountain to river valley scene which will have somewhere around 30" - 36" in elevation change from peak to valley bottom. I also bought my son two books on buying a house for his birthday. Maybe, just maybe, he will take the hint. Between him and his girlfriend they have enough saved to take the plunge.
