I am in the process of building a Highliner B unit for my Santa Fe Genesis F7 A unit and don't know what is the best 'match' for the silver body color. Has anyone done this and can recommend the best color match? I know the Genesis has some foil of some type on a few of the panels but the remaining surfaces are painted. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks,
-Bob

Bob,
I'm about to do some experimentation on this myself. I've tried a few samples, and I think I've narrowed it down to Vallejo 71.062 Aluminum for the overall silver, and I'm going to attempt to use Alclad Chrome for the stainless steel panels. Cross your fingers!

I was going to look at the Alclad stuff but wasn't sure it was too much for the entire body. I like your idea, let me know how it works for you. I also was going to try some Badger Model Flex Santa Fe Silver No 16-32.
AntonioFP45 has had a couple of excellent threads on this forum about Alclad. I think there might have been one other but I can't find it right at the moment.

My thought on the Vallejo paint was that the non-stainless prats of the locomotive were painted anyway, so a regular paint should work.
I have to tell you, I have been less than impressed with the Badger Modelflex paints lately. The colors have been way off from what I was expecting. For instance, a bottle of Santa Fe Yellow I bought a while back was more of a pale/faded yellow, and a bottle of LV Cornell Red was almost pink!

Thanks, I will try the Vallejo paints and see how close it looks with the Genesis. As for the 'metallic' finishes I need to get a color chart for Alclad and see which best matches the Genesis as well. I had thought of using some of the Chrome or Stainless foils used on some of the model automobiles since the areas are basically flat panels.
