Older manual switcn for turn -outs
Posted by Buddy54 on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 4:59 PM

I crashed trying to use Atlas remote; sorry; thanks for the advice.  I would paiy anyithing within reason if I could find 3 of the older manual switches.  They are quite simple, about one inch square, with a handle sticking up that you rotate back and forth. I had them 8 years ago; cannot find anyithing like them right now.  I Tried the Caboose kits, but being legally blind, there is no wayh I can assemble thos kits.  Please helpt as really would like to use the old-style simple switches that mount next to the turn-outslider .  Tkhanks !!

Buddy54,

It would help if You would provide some more info...like the code 100 or code 83...there is a differance in size. Also what kind of turnouts? Snap switch? Or custom line? They mount differently. Also I have been using Atlas track for over 65 yrs. and don't recall seeing what You are describing by Atlas.

Here is a link to the Atlas site...the link is also a pic' of the code 100 manual switch, which is much larger than 1 inch square. The code 83 is much smaller.

EDIT: I am also assuming You are speaking of HO gauge in My reply.

Are you asking about an electrical switch or a track turnout (switch)?  May help some of the folks give you the answer you are looking for.

Good luck,

Richard

I would like to get the small, mechanical manual swiftch. It's about an inch square, just a box with a handle sticking out of the top.  Pushing the lever to one side or othier, shifts aa lever attached to te turn-out actuater, skifting the track direction.  There are no connections othier than the one direction-chaning actuater.   I have had them in the past   These switches are screwed onto the layout  nexcxt to the turn-out.

By the way, I clicked on the link thkat appeaered in the email notification sent to me about the above reply.  I got an email from M.R. sayying  MUTE SUCCESSFUL.  (saying also), there will be no further email notificationms.  What gives?  I am a member, subscrisber to M.R., the whole nine yards!   Thnaks.. The Caboose ground throws that I use are already assembled.

I am using the #202S sprung ground throws. ( for HO scale )

Hi Buddy,

Are you sure that the ones you remember were not Altlas electrical switches that had been converted so that the slide switch moved the turnout manually. That is my only thought on something of the size you are speaking of.

Good luck.

Buddy54,

A link to the Caboose Ind. ground throw 202s that South Penn is referring to. No assembly required. Just hook-up to turnout and nail or screw down:

Points on turnout are positioned mid-way, connect ground throw to turnout throw bar, position switch handle mid-way and nail or screw the base to layout......test without nailing it down first, to make sure travel is correct and points close in both directions.

No, they were juist boxes with a gear inside that the shifted the acutater back and forth.  I am now ready to build m own switches, and I do thank all of you for your help.
