hi. Hope this isn't a dumb question but it's pretty straightforward:  will Piko and Marklin HO  locomotives ( diesel) run effectively on Bachmann track and power Without potential harm to motors?  I read in Marklin catalog due to pickup shoes there would be no  comparability but thought I'd try and get some input. Thanks!

Ah... now there is a question. Pickup shooes suggest to me that you are looking at Marklin AC equipment. No harm since it will not run on DC track at all.

But is your locomotive AC or DC. If it is DC there is no problem. How do you know. Marklin AC has a third rail down the middle of the track (ok, only on the ties, but there nonetheless, and the locomotive would have a shoe to pick up power therfrom.

But do not take my word for it, because LIONS do not use AC equipment.

Will not work... Marklin with Pickup Shoes uses power from third-rail "stubs" in the ties. Bachmann track does not have said third-rail "stubs".

Marklin HO locos will definitively not run on your 2-rail DC (or DCC) layout, whereas Trix locos have no issue. Trix is Marklin´s 2-rail DC brand.

Piko is 2-rail DC as well, but you may have an issue with track smaller than code 100, as the flanges are deeper than NMRA RP25 flanges.
