N scale Athearn big boys, not consisting
Posted by backhead on Thursday, August 6, 2015 5:53 PM

I now have two n scale Athearn big boys and cannot consist with either of them. I've tried any other DCC engine and they all work with each other except the teo big boys.  They won't work with other nor each other.

Today I talked with Athearn and they couldn't give me an anwser.  anyone have an idea please,

 thank you,

Keith

Your best bet would be to contact the manufacturer of the decoders inside your Big Boys. They'd be able to help you since it sounds like an issue with the decoders, but not the locomotives alone.

Good luck.

Steam engines do not MU. Each locomotive must have its own crew.

Yes, but if you're doing a *model* double-header, it's a little bit more convenient to consist them to one throttle instead of using two separate throttles.

Information is less than minimal...pretty hard to put the finger on what may be the problem. What decoder brand? Are they programmed equal? Can CV's be read/programmed with his DCC set?How the locos react when consisted?Have they been speed matched? So much unknown...

If they won't consist, progarm both to the same address.  But then, if they have sound, the whistle and bell will sound off on both.
