Model Masters Acrylic Flat Model Railroad Paints

Recently I had inquired with RPM/Testors on a technical question concerning the enamel paint line.

While I was at it, kind of encouraged them to consider expanding their respective flat railroad paint line.

Wonder why they did not choose reefer orange, when railroad line was released?

Anyhow, some good news, direct from the horses mouth.

They do plain on expanding the line, in near future.

So possibly reefer orange will be one?

Ask them also, why the railroad line was not packaged in a container larger than 1/2 ounce.

Seems, that they are of the idea, that the old Floquil one ounce bottles did not move as fast?

So, anyone interested, I encourage you to contact Testors and let them know, what fast moving for sales/base railroad colors not presently in the line be added.

Please clarify - Your topic heading mentions acrylic paint, but the body of your post talks about enamel paint. I have used the M/M clear flats and gloss acrylic paints - work fine.
I suspect RPM has re-thought their move, and will add colors...
Acrylic is the wave of the future(government regulations), we just need to adopt....

Hi, guys (and gals!).  I've been meaning to mention that although I used Floquil lacquers for 60+ years, I'm fairly new to acrylics.  I read the reviews when they first started to be added to the model paint lines and was impressed when it was mentioned that it seemed to work really well, even on plastic diesel handrails.

I have since used it on several projects and have always wanted to mention the fact that if any of you diesel fans haven't used it on handrails yet, you'll be amazed.  I model old-time steam locos and wood cars in O scale and was quite impressed to find how well acrylic paint stuck to the test patch I brushed onto the back of the brass plow parts of my scratchbuilt MILW gondola-mounted snowplow, built from the late Paul Larson's article in the January, '57, MR.

I was even more impressed, weeks later, when I found Boxcar Red droplets on my black poly plastic dishpan, left there when I cleaned my airbush in the kitchen sink!!!  Seriously, if it's still sticking to that soft plastic, five years later--and hasn't been worn away when I cleaned the dishpan so often--I'm sure it'll stick to plastic handrails on hood units.

New info on acrylic paint!

As mentioned above, while cleaning my airbrush after spraying boxcar red (actually, it was Badger Model Master #16-14 LIGHT TUSCAN OXIDE RED), I got a few specks of it on my black poly-plastic dishpan.  It's still there, after at least six years, and what I hadn't noticed ("EE": Elderly Eyesight) was a few specks on the stainless steel sink itself.

Sunday, January 22, I asked my cleaning helper to take Barkeeper's Friend to the sink---and doggone if the spots weren't still there when she left!  Thinking the cleanser might nbot have been up to the job, I took a new green scouring pad and BKF to work on it.  The spots are still there after applying much elbow grease.  Stainless steel!  3M green scouring pad AND Barkeeper's Friend!

The only word that seems adequate is French: Formidable!
