Referring to Pere Marquette ?  Saw some T-shirts and signs for sale but lost the address, just go for "PERE MARQUETTE" you'll find stuff.

There doesn't appear to be anything out there that's mass-produced and painted in HO or N scale for Marquette Rail. I did see a single custom-painted HO SD40-2 for sale as part of a collection offered at a train show last winter, but that doesn't really count.

Microscale makes a decal set that will letter a lot of Marquette Rail locomotives and their caboose in paint schemes they used before they were bought out by Genesee & Wyoming. It is 87-1317 in HO, and set 60-1317 in N scale.

For the Genesee & Wyoming-era orange and black scheme, Microscale's sets 87-1445 (HO) and 60-1445 (N scale) have the herald and striping needed to make a Marquette Rail diesel.

Lionel released an O gauge three-rail set that had a Marquette Rail GP38 and caboose with three (non-Marquette Rail) freight cars a couple of years ago. It appears to be readily available from a number of places.

Hey Fritz,

Do you know when Genesee & Wyoming took over Marquette Rail? I remember the origonal had a store where among other things you could buy custom painted Athearn (I think) SD40-2s.

I was on their website last night (MR is a hometown railroad) and was shocked to find out the GW now ran the show.

Even with a bit of research I could not find when the marquette rail was taken over by GW.

Not to be pickey but i was looking if there was a 2040 or a 2041.

Catt-

RailAmerica purchased Marquette Rail effective May 1, 2012. Having been employee-owned, the Marquette Rail employees made out very well on this deal.

Less than two months later, Genesee & Wyoming and RailAmerica reached an agreement for Genesee & Wyoming Industries (GWI) to buy out RailAmerica's rail properties.

GWI now owns former Pere Marquette trackage in Michigan's thumb (the former Huron & Eastern), in the middle of the state (the former Mid Michigan RR), and from West Olive through Muskegon to Fremont (the former Michigan Shore RR).

CBT-

Funny you should post that- I was just up at the Kaleva depot museum two weekends ago.

It's a very nice museum that is focused solely on the Manistee & North Eastern and the Pere Marquette through Kaleva.

Unlike some village historical societies' depots, it isn't crammed full of everything that anyone thought was historical about the area, or any old thing that someone donated. A lot of thought and care was put into keeping it focused on its primary mission.

It hepls that the Kaleva historical society has another museum building that it uses for displays related to more general local history.

Nice photo of the Geeps on the swing bridge! I nearly went to Manistee after Kaleva, but instead went up to Alden, since I didn't have any good photos of the Alden PM depot, at the time. Alden has done a nice job with their depot, too.

Thanks fmilhaupt! Here are some more pictures of the kaleva train depot. The dude that was there was restoring a horn that would go on grain towers and they would sound them if there was a fire. (that was a huge run-on sentence) He also decided to let me see where the engine used to be on the loco.

So they are now based in Manistee? Last time I saw a MR train was in 2008 the year I retired. They had gained two new customers in Alpine Township. The two were on either side of Rushe Rd. The first one was Sparta Truss the other a steel supplier that for the life of me I can not remember the name of.

Don't forget the even bigger PCA plant in Manistee they serve.  They also serve an OxyChem plant in Ludington that keeps them busy.
