Afternoon, Folks!

Chloe, I´ll have a cup of hot chocolate, please, and some brownies - thank you!

Our weather is back to normal, i.e. plenty of ra*n. All of the snow is gone, it´s just our regular "Schietwedder" again.

up831 - I tried to put your ideas on scenery into the layout. While having a little stream lined with high trees will work nicely as a view block, squeezing in a tunnel won´t work, if you want to have a realistic look of the layout.

Talking about staging - staging is the "outside world", either off stage (i.e. layout) or hidden. I am not so keen about hidden staging, if it can´t be reached properly. That will be the place old Murphy will reside in. I know from experience. I still fancy the idea of staging linked to the tracks in the upper left and right.

Thanks for the hot chocolate, Chloe! May I stay a little while at the RC to see who´s stopping by?

Good morning,

Ulrich. ..... How is the hot chocalate? I like your track plan because I like industrial switching which you included. It looks like fun switching the grain elevator in particular.

Everybody ! .... Come in to the Diner! ...Ulrich won't bite ! LOL

Happy Model Railroading, everybody !

Since I took my Union Pacific online train crew pre-employment test. It consists of workplace practices test and a reading comprehension test.

I failed it, unforunity it's that kind of tests that I can't win (reading comprehension test). I hate the Agree/Disagree question-answers.

I was hopeing for the test that I took 5 years ago with actual railroad questions.

Write back later, see you soon.

Good afternoon Diners,

Flo, I'll have a cup of Earl Grey tea with cream and honey, please.

Angelob6660: so sorry to hear that you failed the on- line test.  It sounds like this job is very important to you.  Do you still have a chance?

The problem with the "agree-disagree" format is that there is no right answer, just answers that are a little more right than others.  And because you can only agree or disagree with what is stated, there are no options for alternative solutions.

i hope you can get another chance and then you will nail it.  I'm sure that we're all rooting for you.

Less is more,...more or less!

Angelob6660 Reading, writing and comprehension can easily be improved with practice. Use word on your computer and start writing stories, as you go "word" will correct your spelling and punctuation. Take notice and after a while you will be spelling words correctly without even thinking about it.

Start reading more and every time you don't understand a word, stop and Google it or look it up in the dictionary, don't just pass it by.

There are often volunteer groups that will also help with tutoring in most subjects. Look into these. Just remember every hour spent in front of he TV is an hour you haven't spent chasing your dream. Don't give up, the rewards will be worth it.

Good luck.

Thanks for the support. UP831 I can retake the test in another 6 months.

Other news I pre-ordered a Conrail H30 hopper and I got the wrong number in the mail today so I contacted my LHS to replace it. I'll wait to see what happens next.

Galaxy - keep the words and qoutes coming. BUT I would disagree with Twains qoute the friends there are begging their othr friends to not to come to tht hot place. Read the story of the rich man and poor man in the good book.

Been very busy at w**k, getting proto type units ready and as usual not all fits as it should.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, a cup of hot decaf would hit the spot right now....

Wow!  Busy day.  It is currently 15°F outside with a low of 11°F overnight.  Drove to Canandaigua late morning to get the feeding of Claude the cat out of the way before the weather got worse.  Roads were already snow covered and slippery in places.  Not impassable but I didn't want to drive faster than about 45 on them.  Claude was glad to see me....  he came over and layed down next to the chair I was in and wanted to get his head scratched and tummy rubbed for quite a while.  He is a really nice cat!  Headed back to Geneva as soon as the car was charged back up.  Roads were no worse on tyhe way home, but I did make the right choice to go early in the day.  No sooner got home and the sn*w started coming down heavier.  Within a hour the streets in town were really bad.  I, of course, had to go back out to the pharmacy to pick up a couple Rx's...  I decided not to go to the MLK program at the college tonight as we had 4 inches on the ground by 4PM.  Still coming down, but light at the moment.  They have been out plowing so I will have to dig out the driveway tomorrow.

Spent the rest of the day getting a few odds and ends done.  Even managed to do a bit more scenery on the layout.

All of you in the path of the storm, stay safe and warm!

Flo, a JSTL and a beer please. If the Buick guy shows up, look at him funny and give him my tab.

Not crazy about that kind of test my self.

Back half shop and car yard. In the back half shop I think the E-6 is just about ready to test on the rails. Got the weight back on and the PC board wired up. Ran about a 40 minute amp pull test to see what happen when the motor was warm. Warm it was pulling .44 amps and stalled at .63 amps, then I heard some squeeking. Hmm Oiled the worm gears and wheel bearings, then gave another test run. Went from .44 amps too .32 amps! Big Smile Now if after I install a decoder, will it make it around the layout with out derailing is the question. I am 95% sure no E-6 has ran around the K-10 section of my layout.

Car yard shop, I got a Passenger car off the RIP track and 85% sure I have it fixed. We will see Tuesady. Whistling

Gidday Chloe, after getting Ray into trouble over my inquiry over Finger Lakes Region wines, could you please bring me a large cup of iced green tea down to “Elliots” corner booth where I’ll be keeping a low profile.Whistling
We do get world news on the evening TV news so I am sort of aware of what’s going on in Germany Ulrich, and I see that the Greek result is already upsetting the applecart. With investors dropping the Euro and getting into the US$, our dollar has decreased in value against the greenback and therefore my small model railroad budget is getting smaller. (Not that that is a world ending problemLaugh).
I really shouldn’t, what with the Nor east States getting hammered with a blizzard, but just thought you might like to know that todays high was only 75F, yesterdays was 84F and is currently 64F at 1157 hours. (beats hasty retreat to diner door before Vinnie and other enraged patrons physically throw the Bear headlong into a conveniently located snow drift!!!)
Hopefully not as long as work day tomorrow as the last 10 days, I think I’m catching up (famous last words) but it’s off to bed for me.

Thoughts and Best Wishes to all that need them.
Good night and Cheers, the Bear.Smile

Good Morning America, and the rest of the world as well....

Huh? I don't kn ow, just some song running through my head today.....  Zoe, I'll have a pot of Seneca Lake Roast, Organic, Fair Traded Coffee this moring.  Just bring the pot over some half and Half, and my R&GV RR Mug.  Oh a couple Creme filled Eclairs would be nice too.

Hey!  The sun is trying to shine around the little white thingies that are falling out of the sky here in the Finger lakes this Morning.  did get some light and fluffy over the lat 24 hours...  About 4 or so inches of white fluffy stuff...  I will be out running the blower, and cleaning the roof off so the little bit of sunshine will be helpful fairly soon.  Gonna finish the crossword puzzle first.

I will be glad to get the stiches out of my thumb this Friday.  Will be nice to be able to use it more...  Only have a bandaid on it now but I can't grab things with the bandaid on.  That makes tearing open the little paper bags of stevia for my coffee a problem.  I can do it with my left hand but it feels awkward...  I do know many of you have much, much worse things to deal with.  Just saying it to have something to taslk about.

I need to get a bunch of stuff done for a meeting tonight.  Should get the Art and Poetry winner's entries scanned and photographed if I have time today.  Need to get a letter written and ready to send to Model Railroad companies to get ads from them for the Convention Booklet (should have gone out months ago, but nobody said they would do it...  So now I am Nobody).  May even find a few more minutes to do a bit on the layout...  Who knows?

Stay warm and dry out there (especially you folks in New England)!

Thanks Garry,

We're used to this sort of thing, may not be quite as bad as all the hype. Just another 'Noreaster". Grew up in "Scituate, MA" always one of the hardest hit!

Hope all others remain safe. At least it held off and not postpone the Springfield show. Hope MrB is OK, in the path of the hit also.

Good Afternoon!

The sun is slowly setting here. Actually, it´s been a much better day than our weather guessers had predicted.

Ray - 4 inches of that white stuff would mean total chaos in my neck of the woods. Communities up in the north have nearly no snow fighting gear, so with that amount of snow in a day, public life would come to a grinding halt.

We are supposed to get the next light load of snow coming weekend - right in time for my appointment with my eye doc on Monday, which I cannot postpone. I have waited for this one for 8 months...

Stay safe and warm & have a happy day!

Edit: I got TOPS - hot chocolate for everyone caring to join!

Thanks for the hot chocolate Ulrich,

It rained here yesterday and little bit late night, but not much. As the ground is still hard to do some weeding. This will be my second week of throwing wood into the trash can. It's a huge pile of wood from tree branches that's been collecting over the years. Now it's time to throw it away.

Nothing much is happening today, specifically the diner.

Coffee refill, please and thank you.

The Beyer Garratt has arrived.Cool Looks really well packed. Will need to clean off some space on the work desk before I take it out, put the 3 sections together (definitely will need the lighted magnifier) and eventually test it.

Been window shopping online. Anyone here have the Broadway Limited (HO) Hudson? What do you think of it? My oldest brothers Lionel (O) Hudson and cars is what got me hooked when I was a wee little tot.

OK, off to take hay to the horses.

Hello Railfans! Flo.... 'Summer Wine' in a chalice, please.

Not much to really tell here. Not much has been going on the last week. Dont worry Ken, I may not be here in person, but my spirit always lingers. Am waiting on that PM you mentioned would be coming my way. No rush.

Just havent done much this last week or had much to say of importance. Been reading the posts. Nothing too much i can add. Its my week to be the "casual bystander" sitting quietly at the booth in sun glasses covering a Jack Nickleson smile, sipping my unknown beverage eavesdropping on all the train related topics. Tapping my fingers on the table gently as if listening to music in my head.

About the only thing i could remit if asked would be that a paltry attempt at covering the ground in something resembling snow was made early today. Easily halted and totally eraticated by 11am. Paradise Cool  So much for that!

On the RR front, been playing around with a whole lot of nothing lately. $$$ being the 'in demand' commodity needed to proceed at this time. Im sure alot of you can sympathize there.

I did hear that Demis Roussos passed away. Now thats a dang shame! Crying What a great, unique, voice! Now you know what im tapping my fingers too. Smile, Wink & Grin If you want a taste of Summer Wine, order this off the menu from Flo....

Nice pair of AP20's, Ken!

I'd like a hot chocolate, too, Foo.  Whipped cream too, please.

I'm scheduled to have my knee surgery tomorrow.  It's supposed to take less than an hour, then I get to go home and pop painkillers like they were Skittles -- I mean, rest from the surgery.  Hopefully it'll go better than the kidney stone fiasco 2 weeks ago! If I'm lucky, I may see a train or two on the Southern Tier or in the Sayre yard.

At least recovering from this operation should give me a chance to go through a couple books about the D&H that I picked up at a train show a several weeks ago, and maybe renumber some engines and cars.  If I see my wife headed toward the bed with a pillow, I'll know I'll soon be on my way to the Great Roundhouse in the Sky!  Confused

***Ken, how many BLI Paragon 2 locos do you (or have you) had? I bought their Y6b and a T1 about a year ago. They were too big to run on current layout, so just checked them on a short section of strait track at the time. Crossing my fingers they will be good runners by the time I get the new layout going. Evenin' Folks!

Janie, just my evening decaf please....

Spent much of the dat getting the financial stuff ready for the MLK Committee Meeting tonight.  I did give the treasurers report, but we didn't really have a formal meeting as the president didn't show up for the meeting...  That is not like him at all!  I'm figuring something happened at work that he had to put in overtime, but then he would have gotten a message to us somehow, or maybe one of his parishioners had an emergency.  Frankly I'm a bit worried about him.  He is always punctual and always lets people know when he can't make a meeting on time.  I do hope he is OK.

Got home to find a phone call from the financial officer and jack of all trades from church.  They are starting a renovation of the church kitchen and he wanted to know if I knew anything about an old plug in box with some wierd connections down in the Scout Room.  The cabling from the box leads up from the basement through a closet in the kitchen.  The closet is gone and they are wondering what to do with the conduit the cable goes through.  I had no idea.  he thinks it was put in back in the 1960's when there was a major building project at the church and it may have been some kind of connection to a TV antenna on the roof....???

Uncle_Bob
If I'm lucky, I may see a train or two on the Southern Tier or in the Sayre yard.

Uncle Bob, you are having your surgery at Robert Packer Hospital?  I taught in Wavery, NY for the first 11 years of my career.  My late wife was trained as a surgical technition at Robert Packer and worked for the business office for several years.  Hope you get to see some trains in the Sayre Yard!  Good luck with the surgery.

Got a bit more done on the scene today.  Last night I stained the stonework and painted the soil....  Also planted some more trees on the near side of what is the driveway into Howard's Dairy to the right of what you see.  Tonight I added weeds, and stuff to the area above and below the stonework and put some foliage on the New trees.

Have a great night!
