Trix Grain Elevator
Posted by ericsp on Thursday, November 4, 2004 2:16 AM
I was looking through the Walthers Catalog and noticed the Trix Grain Elevator (http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/441-66109). It appears to be the Walthers Grain Elevator (http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/933-3022) with four more silos. I noticed that the Trix elevator is $205.45 while the Walthers one is $32.98. Does the Trix elevator have something special that the Walthers does not, or the Trix elevator a rip off?

Interesting...
I just checked both links... the more expensive one (first one noted) is a MARKLIN product and is intended for an experienced modeller - who knows, it might be a laser cut, or have finer details (it looks nicer in the photos... my opinion) and probably demands a higher price as a result- remember it's Marklin - I'm not familiar with the Marklin buildings though, so someone else (Emeraldisle?) might be able to assist...; on the other hand, the second (cheaper one) seems to be a very nice building, similar design, and worth it for the price - better value for the money (opinion again) --- to sweeten the deal, the second one is currently Out of Stock at Walthers until approx Dec 1/04 HOWEVER, the sale price is listed as $26.98 now - I'd go with this choice...

cheers, krump

I agree you could aalways add Medusa Cement Plant to add more silos if that is what your looking for and still be a fraction of the Marklin Price!

It seems to be a case of paying extra for the Trix name more than anything else, just like their locos. I've heard that the Trix sound system is monophonic and not polyphonic like all the others; i.e., if you ring the bell all other sounds stop until the bell is turned off, or if you blow the whistle all other sounds stop until the whistle is finished. That's a cheap sound system.

Walthers used to make add-on silos for the ADM Grain Elevator.

I recently bought both the ADM Grain Elevator and Medusa Cement (both at the sale price) and am happy with both.

It looks exactly like the Walthers kit to me, except for 4 more silos. I am guessing they have licensed the right to produce the same kit from Walthers. The silos are molded in sections of two (for the sides) and end sections. Therefore the only change they would have to make is to alter the corrugated steel structure on top of the silos. My guess is it is injection molded plastic and that cacole is correct.

incidentally, the Walthers version of this item was being sold tonight at our club's first ever swap and shop... who knew?
other fellow couldn't fit it into his current layout design, decided to sell it
it is a rather large structure (compared to other items) but I thought that I could make good use of it. I managed to buy it. very nice - even came with a few layers of dust at no extra cost [^]

cheers, krump

this kit could be the same,
but because it is imported from the expensive euro zone, you could call it heavily overpriced! ( as imo is all european model rr stuff )

If I remember correctly, the Walthers kit has "Made in Denmark" on it.
