Broadway Limited's Sidekick - does it work with other systems?

Broadway Limited has a two-button add on controller to sound the horn and ring the bell on their Quantum Sound equipped engines. This allows users without DCC to use these functions, I have one for my On30 C-16 steam engine.

Lionel HO engines also have Quantum Sound modules. Will the Broadway Limited Sidekick operate the sounds on their engines too?

I know Lionel appears to be on the way out of the HO scale business, and am interested in their UP Veranda Turbine at the sale price.

Bob--I don't know about working with the Lionel setup, but I have a Sidekick on my DC setup for my BLI's. One thing you need to watch out for--if you're running a BLI and a regular locomotive at the same time--everytime you hit the Sidekick for the whistle or bell, the other non-BLI loco will change direction. Found that out the second day I had the little critter--derailed a 25-car reefer block behind my non-BLI when it jerked backward at 35mph. It was funny at the time, but it taught me a lesson. ONLY USE THE SIDEKICK WHEN YOU'RE RUNNING NOTHING BUT BLI LOCOS. Other than that, it's a pretty cool little accessory.

I use the Sidekick with my Lionel Challenger and it works just fine. I also use it with my Atlas Train Master with the same result. And it is certainly better than using the reversing switch itself.

Hello Listers.
My revised trackside R/C system is now available.

Part of this updated system is a new programme for controlling QSI® sound equipped locos such as BLI® and Lionel® etc real time from a small handpiece.

The system provides super smooth speed control, direction change, a short toot, long toot and Bell ON-OFF.

Switch easily between this programme and regular DC.

Full details are at my website.

Scroll down the page and click on "TRACKSIDE R/C".

Best wishes,

Tony Walsham (RCS).
