Grab Iron Distance From Locomotive
Posted by KisNap on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 12:27 PM

Hi there.  How far do grab irons typically stick out from a locomotive.  I'm installing them on an N scale locomotive and I plan to place a small strip of styrene between the grab irons so when I put them in they'll all be the same distance, but I don't know what thickness of styrene I should use.  Any info on real locomotives or in  N scale would be helpful.  Thanks!

The N scale section of my website is now uploaded with a lot of various things.  Check it out: www.CarlettaTrains.com

Off the top of my head, I believe it's supposed to be 4".

.030" is 4.750 " in N scale.That is just a little further than Mike's thinking.I don't remember what I used (been a loooong time) but .030" seemds right to me.So basically I agree with Mike.Big Smile
