"Ultra Pure" Railroad Rail and Track Cleaner
Posted by RicZ on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 10:25 AM

I have seen this product on E-Bay several times, but do not have any knowledge of the product.  Since I am always looking for Eco-friendly products I have been intrequed by it.

Has anyone had any experience with the product, and can comment on it?  Could it be used safely in my CMS Track Cleaning car?

I have not used this product, but there are reviews on other MRR Forums - Mostly negative.  Folks complain that it leaves a 'film' on the track.  I looked that the seller's eBay store and he also sells other 'scented' products....

Myself, I use lacquer thinner applied with a CMX track cleaning car.  Cheap isopropyl alcohol(like the 71% variety) also works fine.

Like JIM said. READ the first reply on this site about Ultra Pure:

I use what CMX recommends in my track cleaning car. (Lacquer Thinner) Eco friendly, as long as you don't light a match when you pour it all over and don't drink it.

Thanks for the inputs.  OthErs experience is always better than experimentation.

one issue that I have with Laquer Tinner is that it is VOC or solvent-based product that gives off fumes, which my CFO (wife) can not tolerate.  I guess the best, if not, only alternative is IPO.

Thanks for your inputs.

RicZ,

One thing about the CMX car once you nail down the drip rate correctly, you hardly smell anything at all. My experience, with two of them with Lacquer thinner. I have a rather large layout and use them once a year on the double mains and some hard to get at buildings that have track inside. Other than that, I'll run a Masonite drag car around with a Centerline once in awhile.

I still haven't had to clean my track and the Metal Polish leaves no oder!

And only ever doing it once back in 2003 - sure would go a LONG WAY in keeping the other half from having any problems with vapors!

Again YOUR CHOICE!

Do it once or risk the problems with breathing!
