Thanks ZStripe...I do love older music (What's a justin beiber? LOL).  Seriously though, give me classic rock any day, a song that tells a story and has real guitars/drums on it.  Anyway, I'm still keeping up the search, and had a friend help to redo my resum'e.  That's a nice looking dog as well.

(My Model Railroad, My Rules)

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway.  As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).

Mint tea, please.

***Garry, excellent work!Yes

***Ken, Sparkie is adorable.

New worker did very well today. Only downside is he has no fence building experience, so I worked harder than I should have and now am exhausted and sore. Do need to be careful or I can be down for days. Tomorrow he will have to do more on his own.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

 Evening Dinners
 Flo, Beer Pleases. Beer
Great Day today but as usual did not get as much done as I would have liked to. Did some cleaning up in the backyard / patio. Got Sue a few plants and a clasp so Sue can hook up Sparkie the Rock Dog up while she is sitting outside.
Little story about Sparkie first Easter with us I sent to Sandy.
Sharon dropped by for Easter Lunch. We had Ham, Green Bean Casserole, Mash Potatoes and Rolls. Sparkie got to eat with us in the dinning room, he got Chicken Strips dog snacks.
While Sue and Sharon was clearing the dinning room table I was out doing yard work. At one point the only thing left on the table where the rolls. When Sharon went in to get them, want to guess who was getting ready to help him self? Yep, the rocket dog!
Sparkie was standing on m chair with his feet on the table and nose maybe 3 inches away, Then he saw Sharon! LOL Man he sure looked guilty!   Sharon had her phone in her hand and snapped a few pictures that I am sending you!

No one raised there voice, in fact they gave him some loving. From the looks of the photos Sparkie was punishing him self anyway! Besides far as table manners Sparkie is far from being bad! One year Shaddy the Wolfhound was caught leaking the ham! Shaddy did get that section! LOL.

Oh yeah, I remember that song. Heard it many times during the 60's and 70's.

Warning! Contains geek content!

Got my friends Apple IIc opened up and the problem is a little more technical than I thought. The read/write head in the disk drive checks out as good. However it's position is off by two or three degrees. It was dead-on the last time I worked on it and there's nothing wrong with my work. Only two things can account for this part being out of adjustment. #1, the user tried aligning it but I can't see that as he's not a computer geek, not even electronically inclined. #2, it was dropped which I consider likely as there's a small crack on one corner of the case. It wasn't there the last time. Still, it's no problem. I can have the computer on with the diagnostic program running while I readjust the head azimuth to true. What makes that slightly interesting is the program disk can't be in the drive while I'm making the physical adjustments yet the program needs to be running. That's the wonderful thing about small programs. They can be resident in memory. No disk required after loading. Where it gets interesting is when the disk is put in and the drive door is closed. The rough position indicator vanishes from the screen and is replaced by a pair of precise position markers. As I slowly turn a screw on the control board a dot on the screen will get closer to or further away from a horizontal or vertical azimuth marker on the screen depending on which of the two screws I'm turning at the time. In the end the two '+' marks should be lined up on the single '-' mark. And since I've been typing this with one hand and making adjustments with the other hand I'm finished. It's done. The drive is aligned as close to perfect as I can get it. The only way I could get it maybe a fraction of a degree closer is with an oscilloscope, which I don't have. I'm running the test program now and it indicates the drive is within factory parameters. Am I good or what?

All sunshine here today but starting about midnight we've got about 3 inches of rain/sn*w predicted over a 24 hour period. That plus the spring mountain runoff could spell trouble for river levels where I live. Fortunatly I live on high ground so shouldn't be bothered.

Ran around this morning getting the new vehicle insurance purchased and while there had them do a new evaluation on the house insurance because lots has changed in the five years we've been here. Turns out that the car insurance is 200 dollars a year less than our current vehicle due to all the "safety features" this one has that the old one didn't. The changes to the house insurance ate up the savings on the vehicle but ended up being pretty much the same as before all the changes. Works for me.

Pick up the new wheels on Thursday so that should be a nice feeling. My wife is all excited, me, well, not so much.

Speaking of MOH, she is suffering big time with all the alergens around like sn*w mold and all the dust in the air. Feel sorry for her this time of the year, poor old girl. Hopefully the big rain will help her out some.

On the RR front, I've been casting more rocks, building mountains and laying track all at the same time. The area I'd set aside for the yard area isn't going to work out too well so that will be turned into an industrial area and in the future I'll expand the layout for a yard area. One of these days, I need to clean track so I can actually run some trains. Haven't run a train in 10 months. Too busy doing everything else.

Well, best I go make sure the downspouts are all in place before the flood starts.

Cheers all

Dennis

like ray said, rainy nad miserable here, weather causing me a migraine again.

MOH's hip is also a firm reminder of nasty weather. Thursday is the appt for the orthopedist to check out the hip, MOH says will not repeat "physical therapy" as it didn't help last time and if the bone is degenerating, PT won't help anyway...what is the next step then?

I will just bumble along sitting here in the back booth...

Another backdrop picture for Ulrich to look at. This is a farm house that was on a calendar. If you look carefully you can see a verticle line in the far right when I blended this calendar picture in with other backdrop scenery  with acrylic paints.

Ulrich: .... You said: "I wish I could do something like it" ... You can.

Garry - I just watched one of those H2 videos and it looks so easy! I don´t know why, but something is keeping me from trying it.

Here is the video - see for yourself.

Ulrich ... Laugh.... You might be like some guys who hestitate to do scenery. I bet you can find it is easier than you imagine, but it does take practice. I would suggest practicing on cardboard from cartons that would be trash anyhow. ...  I watched only the first couple of minutes of your video, and I see he used latex paint. I did that too even though the artists I watched in videos used more expensive acryilic paint. I bought some dark sky blue, and mixed it with white paint to get the lighter shades. I tried various proportions as I expermented on cardboard scraps. Very tiny amounts of black can be mixed to get shadow effects under clouds, too. Also, I would watch as many different videos as you can for painting clouds because each artist has his own way of painting. Most are general art and not just model railroad backdrops.  ..... I found pictures of buildings to glue on the backdrops. Some were from commerical model railroad backdrops, and others were from old calendars, magazines, travel brochures, catologues, and so on. I bet you could find an old calendar with lighthouse pictures to use.

Here is work in progress when I was working on my city. I did the sky; put up the backdrop buildings, and then worked some more on clouds.

Here is Union Station after doing backdrop.

Ray .... Your thread on making clouds is a good one. Perhaps you can help Ulrich find it. It is an easy way to make realistic clouds.

Did the wiring work on the Lima Hustler to install a 9-pin DCC plug for motor control. It'll eventually have it's own DH126 decoder. For now I borrowed one from one of the Varney F3's. The speed table will have to be set for switcher for sure. On the default setting this thing will almost fly. Add wings and it probably would.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of buttermilk pancakes with real NYS Maple Syrup and a cup (maybe a whole pot) of Seneca lake Blend Dark Roast coffee in my R7GV RR mug please.

Dark and Gloomy here in the Finger Lakes this morning with a few showers coming down.  Current temperature is at the high for today of 60°F.  Tonight will get chilly again with a low of 38°F and more showers.  I have a bunch of pressing items to get acomplished today, including some scheduling for MLK Interviews and finding a couple more committee members to meet with us and the High School Guidance Councelors on Thursday.  Unfortunately, most of the committee still have something called "Jobs" so that leaves me to get this stuff done...  Well some folks are not of the retirement age crowd and do need to earn a living I guess! Whistling

Hi... I'm back after several interuptions...  Guess I'll finish my post.

I hope to get a bit of time to do some odds and ends down in the trainroom today.  I will soon be starting another scratch build for use on the layout.  this time it will be a small RR Bridge over the road coming dfown from the hill in the new room.  (The one with the old Packrad Truck on it.)

Catch you later!

Just wanted to stop in now as I might not have time later. The wife and I have tickets to the ball game tonight ( front row base lines too so that is cool ) and we plan on leaving early enough to beat traffic. See if I can snag a foul ball or a ball during batting practise Stick out tongue

I might be back on late late tonight but probably more in the morning.

Have a great day guys

Good morning. It's 66° with 94% humidity. The high will be 82° an cloudy with a small chance of rain.
 with

A little while ago a friend of mine stopped by on his way to work. He left his Apple IIc computer for me to fix. I've looked at it and determined it's disk drive needs more than a cleaning. The read/write head needs to be replaced. No biggie. I have the part in question and the work won't take any longer than a cleaning. It's an easy job I can do while watching 'The Train'.

Other than the above I'll be doing very little today. The busiest I'm likely to be is soldering a 9-pin DCC plug into a Lima Hustler switcher.

A recent project involved installing Digitrax DH126 decoders in two repowered Varney F3A locos. One such is pictured below.

Good morning!

Ulrich: .... You said: "I wish I could do something like it" ... You can. Although much of my backdrop is commerically made, I do have some sky I painted myself. I taught myself how with You-Tube videos by artsts who demonstrate their techniques. They also tell about mixing the right colors for certain effects. I bet you can find some demonstrations yourself on the internet. Alternatively, you can paint clouds with cloud shaped stencils as Ray has done. I have also used that method, and made my own stencils by tearing newspapers. .... Try making clouds just for fun. Don't be discouarged if your first clouds don't look right. Keep practicing until they do. Then go ahead. Have faith in yourself and you will be pleasantly surprised at the results.

Frank ... Nice sunset picture.

Ken ......Looks like there is a lot of catching up to do. .... Hoo kares bout speling? LOL

Barry .... I hope your strength is returning and you will be okay.

Galaxy ... Your quote is much like my sentaments on that topic. More generally, people should learn to be skeptical.

My model railroad agenda is to install some turnouts. I finally decided where to place them. Also, I still have a troublesome 2-10-2 with decoder problems, and I may take it to my friend Gus so we can work togethr on it.

Remarkable! .... Remember I said Shelley won a quarter of an Angus steer as a door prize at a local auction, and we needed to get a freezer to hold all of he beef. ... Guess what! .... last night, Shelley won another raffle at another event. This time it was a cash prize, and the amount was enough to pay for the freezer we bought on Saturday. ... With beef prices rising so much lately, this is a windfall !

Lunchtime!

Flo, make that a big hamburger with all the works, fries and an RBF to wash it down, please!

W*rked down my HD list and even found the time to buy a pack of screws and scale lumber - for the ties of that diamond crossing. As my back is still yelling at me, there won´t be much MRRing today. I need to order wire and solder, though. My bank account tells me there is some MRRing money left.

Ken - yes, it is O scale, but On30. The bigger stuff makes it a lot easier to w*rk with, given my bad eyes and trembling hands.

Anybody care to paint a backdrop for me? I need a backdrop with clouds, about 11´by 2´, something like this:

I wish I could do something like it!

Blessings to all!

 Quotable Quote:

Myth: we have to save the earth. Frankly, the earth doesn't need to be saved. Nature doesn't give a hoot if human beings are here or not. The planet has survived cataclysmic and catastrophic changes for millions upon millions of years. Over that time, it is widely believed, 99 percent of all species have come and gone while the planet has remained. Saving the environment is really about saving our environment -- making it safe for ourselves, our children, and the world as we know it. If more people saw the issue as one of saving themselves, we would probably see increased motivation and commitment to actually do so. -Robert M. Jeffery, sore to hear about the toe, I am lucky mine heald. Did you go to the VA to have the foot / lower leg removed? Having it removed, did it help you any as far as getting a round? Also how bad was the trailer damaged?

VA wouldn't touch it. No money for new members was their excuse. Had it done at a civilian hospital in Oakdale Louiaiana. Now that I have a prothesthis I can drive easier than I did before and I can get around a bit better. The trailer is damaged badly enough that it can't be moved without extensive repairs. There's still a small leak up top due to the damaged over-roof.

 Evening Dinners!

 Flo, Beer Please!

Well I do not care for this format at all, but what can you say? Guess you folks will see how bad my typing and spelling realy is!

Jeffery, soory to hear about the toe, I am lucky mine heald. Did you go to the VA to have the foot / lower leg removed? Having it removed, did it help you any as far as getting a round? Also how bad was the trailer damaged?

Ulrich, well at lease you can work on your layout again! Looks like you changed scale, it is O or something along that scale?

Ray, as far as old gas, man I know first hand how bad it stinks! How I got the 8 year old gas out of the Road Runner was to feed the carb by gravity while the fuel pump pumped the old gas into a 2 gallon gas can, gallon coolnet jug and 6 2 liters diet dew bottles. I then took a few liters to my friends shop and dumped it into his waste oil tank! I still have 1 gallon left, need to dump it in the next few days. Reason I only take a little at a time is becauses of the smell!

Charle and others, thank you for the kind words about Shaddy! We knew for a few years that she had a heart mummer (God I miss spell check) then about 3 weeks before it was her time she started coughing. I knew then it was getting close to the end. Took her to the Vet and we where told she had between 2 days and a week, maybe 2. Gave her some water pills and we took her home. She made it all most a month and was not in pain. Plus we gave her only canned dog food and she loved it! Her last night, she fell and could not get up, with help from a fire fighter (my hand had just had surgery) we got her to the Vet so the right thing could be done. Crying Her ashes will go into a Bulid a Bear dog this week.

But luckly for Sue, and my self we found Sparkie! Big Smile He was a God send for Sue and my self. Hard to understand how such a sweet dog came to a resuce? When the American Eskmo Rersue of St Louis got him, is health was not great! They spent $2400.00 in Vet bills and help us with his last Vet visit, ear infection. Poor boy had to have 14 teeth pulled!! Sigh That is just not right!

As of right now Sparkie is in tip top shape! I keep in touch with Sandy from the American Eskmo Rersue and let her know how he is doing. I call him Sparkie The Rocket Dog! What Sue and I find hard to understand is why so many folks meet Sparkie while he was at the rersue and none would adopt him! Old people need loving, so why not old dogs! In fact, at first Sue did not want to meet him because of his age! One day I told her we where going some where she wanted to go, but instead we went to meet the Rocket Dog! it was love at first bark! Big Smile

Good evening ... JP how was the chocolate milkshake? .... Good? ... Okay, Flo, I'll have one also. I'll go with the flo so to speak.

Motely222 ... Good to see you in the Diner.

Ken ... Wow. You were in the Diner 2 days in a row. Nice! ... I hope your hand recovers and the surgery did what you wanted with the bent finger.

I'm about to lay more track on the layout  .... I've been "eyeballing" where I plan to install turnouts and track connecting them.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a cup of decaf to help me relax at the moment....

I had a busy day doing not much of anything.  Well, I did  take a bunch of broken appliances and an old Jig Saw I inherited from my BIL when He passed away a few years back to the recycler here in Geneva.  The jig saw was one of two he had in his workshop.  My son got the newer one and I took the old one.  I guess the arm had gotten bent a bit at some time as I couldn't ever get it to cut straight.  I plan on getting a hobby one from Micro Mark at some time.  With the big one gone I will have room now on the bench where it was for at least two new table top tools actually.

I also got out the old rototiller and found I had a bit of old stale gas left from last year....  Decided to make a run to the gas station and buy $2 worth of fresh dinosaur dung to have a bit of good stuff in the can.  I filled up the tank on the rototiller almost completely using the whole amount I had in the can, and on the fourth try It fired up and ran....  I will be ready to till the soil by the fence I had put in last year as soon as my sister decides to give me some hostas.  Will probably put in some annuals along the fence as well just for the heck of it.

On the train front I made a small shelf to hold the radio unit on the NCE system.  Checked out the turnout info cards that are or will be (should I say) glued to the facia with the DPDT Switches.  Made a list of what I still needed and spent some time making and printing another sheet of them.  They are printed on glossy photo stock and are cut to size and then glued to the facia with 3M spray adhesive.  They work well and so far haven't come loose.

This evening I have been exchanging emails with a few members of the MLK Committee about when we can meet to interview one of the candiates who is on the Track Team and will not be around when we have the rest of the interviews as he has a meet he will be in...  Always something!

Prayers for all in need, and I know there are quite a few!
