Aftermarket Smoke Generators
Posted by garyrr on Saturday, March 22, 2014 11:09 AM

Is there any way to install a smoke generator In a locomotive that didn't come equipped with with one?  ( I assume all they are are heating coils).  Does any manufacturer even produce such?  Thanks

The Massoth steam generators are designed for G scale locos or ship models. I think they are a little too large to be used in HO scale locos. Seuthe in Germany makes HO scale steam generators, but they do not have that pulsed smoke feature.

Whatever generator you use, they all "burn" steam oil, which will leave an oily film on your loco and your track and even may irritate your lungs. IMHO, it is not worth the trouble.

Seuth makes a line of smoke generators for all scales. Do a google search for Seuth smoke. Some like it and some don"t. It's your choice. Been around since the 1940's and will be around for a long time.

I have to admit that "smoking" steamers can be tempting. Take a look at this video

... and this video shows Roco´s Deutsche Bundesbahn class 10 with what they call Dynamic smoke - this is HO scale.

Awesome Video. Unfortunately Suethe will not chuff like that. Only MTH and BLI have that feature. And in HO, only some of their engines have impressive looking smoke. If I modeled in O guage I definitely would want engines doing that like in the video.
