Finished up See's Candies interior details
Posted by Southwest Chief on Thursday, January 16, 2014 8:12 PM

I finished up the interior details for my See's Candies store.  This is for our late 1950s Southern California themed HO scale layout.

The See's Candies store started as an old Suydam kit (think it was called "modern stores").  The Rexall Drugs building is a City Classics A&P.

Here's an older photo showing where the stores go on the layout:

See's is kind of a Southern California landmark, going back to the early 20s I think.  They are still around today in lots of SoCal locations.  Really good chocolate Stick out tongue

I'm not sure if they have expanded to other states.

Both buildings are lit with the lights glued to the underside of the roofs.  I have an animated "neon" sign for the Rexall...that's what those two slits are for above the door.

Those huge windows beg for interior details, and that looks great what you did.

Thanks Randy.

So true about the big windows.  Kind of why I had to get so detailed with these.

Are they the same interior detail kits that I saw on Ebay?

MIKE

I've seen those ebay paper kits too and always wondered how they look, although I didn't use them for these two buildings.

The See's interior was made with various styrene strips I had in my parts bin.  I also did some computer image editing for the various box labels and floor tile.

The Rexall uses parts from Faller's Retail Store interior kit.  I still have to finish detailing it.  Need to make some things for the window shelves.

Wow! The interior details you made really impressed me. It's very pretty but how can't imagine how much time and effort you put in those. Congratulations!

You need to put Lucy in the store as that was the See's factory where the classic scene was filmed of her eating the chocolates as she tried to catch up with the assembly line.

Also, See's sets up a small store in the concourse area of Towne Center Mall here in Kennesaw(Marietta), Georgia during the Christmas shopping season.
