Wiring Atlas #65 swicth machine to a #57 Switch Control Box
Posted by HPMRail on Thursday, January 16, 2014 4:37 PM

This is probably a stupid question but I am very new to US Model Railroading. I wired the switch machine to the switch control box but it will only switch in one direction. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you.

HPMRail,

Welcome To The Forums. The #57 should have the same terminals as the #56. The two terminals on the switch control box on the left go to the AC Power, the three terminals the center goes to the center terminal on the switch machine, the left terminal on control box, goes to the left terminal on the switch machine, the remaining term. on the right side of the control box, goes to the right side term. of the switch machine. Should they work right, left, just reverse the left and right terminals at control box. After you complete the wiring, go  to the switch machine and slide the pin on the slide bar to the center, not the throw bar. You should see the pin on top of machine. That common center wire must go to all control box's and switch machines. To save wiring from control box to switch, that center connection from control box to first switch machine, can be daisy chained from the first switch machine to any others that you may have. Just make sure they are all in the center terminals. If you wired it the way I explained, you should have no problem with it working. You have a wire wrong or faulty box or switch. Very unlikely if they were new. All Atlas Electrical commponents, except track, always came with very detailed instructions, unless they got lost somehow or discontinued that practice.
