Staying logged in
Posted by hon30critter on Saturday, November 23, 2013 12:21 AM

Hi everyone:

I can't figure out how to stay logged in to the new site when I go out of it for a while. The old format used to keep me logged in for several days so I didn't have to type in my e-mail address every time I went to the forums. Now I have to type in my e-mail each time I want to get into the forum. It does remember my password, but I'm not sure if that is the MR website remembering it or Internet Explorer. I don't see a "remember me" box in the log in area.

Does anybody else have this problem? Has anyone figured out how to stay logged in when you go away from the site for an hour or two?

I have read almost all of the threads related to the new format but I didn't come across this particular issue.

Thanks

Dave

My problem is just the opposite. I can't log out unless I clear all my cookies. That gets me logged out but it also gets me logged out of all the other sites I visit and I have to log back in to each and every one of them. That's very time consuming as I go to a lot of sites concerning model railroading and antique computers.

Dave,

I have a feeling,it is IE, I don't have any problem at all staying logged in,when I leave for a while and come back, which I just did for six hours. Make sure your cookies are enabled.

I use IE8, and I stay logged in even if I close down IE8.

Sam, my Messages feature turns red when I have a PM.

Just one more curious glitch.

I still can't manage to log out.  I still get that strange message when I click on the log out.  So it seems that I stay logged in unless I either clear out all the cookies in Internet Options, or turn the computer off.  I don't have Internet Options set to automatically clear out the cookies.  I believe that I have IE8.

I am using IE10 with cookies blocked.  I don't have to re enter that stuff when I return.

I have IE 9 on my desktop and when my laptop went from IE 10 to IE 11 with the Windows 8.1 download the laptop would (on the old website) perform on some website features but not others.  The various IE "tools" settings for security, content, etc were not the problem.  Rather, the new IE 11 needed "compatibility view" enabled under tools and that cured my problems.  I don't know why you would have new problems if you haven't changed your browser recently, however.  If you continue to have problems and can't get them solved here, suggest to call MR customer service and ask to speak to Megan about a website computer issue.  She quickly pinpointed my issue.

I'm using FireFox and have no problems staying logged in but I did just try and logout and received a 404 (file or directory not found) error.

Exactly what I get. I have to clear all my cookies so I can log out. It also logs me out of any other site I'm on and I normally hav at least eight sites open.

I find that by going to one of the other Kalmbach magazine sites, which at the moment have the older format, I get a working "logout" button.

I will apologize for the probably small font size here, but I can't find any way of changing it.

Looks like the only ways to change font size is (A) use BBCode to make the font large or larger still or make it small. or use the PM reply box (still has the old format) or a Trains.com forum reply box that still has the old format. Don't click post on those, just copy and get out then come and paste here.

EDIT: The thin line you see after the large 'still' is the four words 'or make it small' in font size 3.

I was being logged out every time I close Firefox. What I did to solve that was go to another trains.com page which still used the old format. I was able to log in and stay logged in. Hope this helps. Tom

Some people want to log off and cannot while others wish to stay logged in and are unable too. Not to worry, the software vendor is having a brainstorming session as we speak...................Sleep

Trying to confirm a rumor that the developers of the HealthCare web site are stepping in to fix this latest forum software update.

True?

They're probably the ones who developed it! Now they need to put a grade school computer class on it to fix the bugs!

Things have changed!

Up until an hour ago every time I left the MR site I was logged out by the system. Just now I opened the site up and found myself to still be logged in!

Let's hope it stays that way, and that they can fix the other bugs too.
