Hey y'all. Another RBF for me tonight. I think its something of a record that I'm back in here so soon. Seems like for the past few months its been one post at the beginning of the month, then nothing till the next. Was able to do a little research work on the MRR side of things for myself this evening (was able to have the house to myself when I got off from w**k) I think I've got a pretty good understanding of the heritage of the older locomotives that CSX uses (since I see a good smattering of SD40-2s and SD50s and such, it always nice for me to know from whom they came).
Welp, that's about it for me, got to head to bed as Amy's got a check-up tomorrow, and then we've got to make our "big" trip to the grocery store.
Night y'all!

White pelicans are here. They migrate every year through here. They stay about five weeks in the Fall and in the Spring. This picture was from a couple of years ago after most of the leaves are down.

Janie, I'll have the stuffed green peppers and a cup of decaf for supper. I'll go load up at the salad bar while I wait.
Spent much of the day over at a scouter friend's house along with the secretary for the handicapped Pack and Troop doing the online charter stuff... Not an easy task for any of us including those of us who have done it before. They keep upgrading.... I stopped at the Mennonite farm stand I frequent on the way home and loaded up with some winter squash, a head of cauliflower and a dozen eggs from their free range hens. Then when over and voted on my way home as well.
Just brought in several armloads of firewood and see there is a huge yellowjacket flying around in here. Of course she disappeared just as soon as I found the fly swatter.... I'm sure she will put in an appearance again this evening.

Ha and they got about 1/2 of what we got. My back deck which I just finished shoveling off was 4 1/2 feet deep. Now I have to admit that was 2/3 drifting off the roof but still. The Öfficial Sn*wfall was 12.65 inches.
This am it was -21 below C as well so I guess it really is winter here abouts.

Good Morning,
A fairly chilly day here with a high of 32F with a strong west wind. Oh well, it could be worse as Dennis is experiencing. Friends who moved to Edmonton last year sent us a photo of their house and the snow.
I just got dropped off by the dealership shuttle van as I had to take the car in today to get an exhaust hanger replaced. It was loose and as not broken my request for warranty replacement was declined. I then said I would pay myself to get it done as I think it is causing a vibration-rattle. The dealership then said that as I am a good customer they would cover the cost. I guess those service questionnaires I get from Volvo really do work.
I didn't make any plans for today so I think a little train time is in order. A little shunting to make up a train would be good and then I think I'll put my FA2 on the point. I could also start painting the window frames on a N scale building but I'm not sure that I am in the mood for such work.
I did order myself a birthday present yesterday. It is another book in Ian Wilson's set about CN steam in Ontario. This one is based on Lindsay operations.
Hope everyone is well,
CN Charlie

pascaff* Morning All, Currently it is 28 with an expected high of 56, under mostly sunny skies. Spent the better part of 4 hours at Social Security Administration office yesterday trying to find out what I would receive as a survivor from my wife's benefit amount. I need to wait until the new guidelines come out for, 2014 to see how much I can make without having money deducted from her benefit, as I am only 64. All this needs to be figured out so I can continue my plan to retire and move closer to my daughters. W**k today, but I will have some time to w**k on the church building before heading in for that most unpleasant task. I am really starting to get annoyed with customers that have all these conspiracy theories about why there is so little ammunition available. And just customers in general that are jerks. CNC Charlie and JohnBoy - Happy belated birthday. Prayers to all in need. Paul

kbkchoochYeah, it does sound old, I'm afraid to as what I am at 52. I'll bet it sounds just as ancient!
Yeah,,,thats easy for you to say!
There's not too much new from around here. We did get a couple of hours in railfanning this past Saturday. Caught 7 trains, 3 mixed freights & 4 intermodals. The weather was poor being very overcast and cold. I guess the good times of sitting in our chairs and watching the world, I mean trains, go by are over and we are now sitting in the car. It's just not as much fun for some reason.
Last week I received an Intermountain SD40-2W I had ordered. It's a Canadian National in the zebra stripe scheme. I got this for my Western Pennsylvania collection because we now have one running around here in Western PA. About 11 years ago US Steel sold a couple of railroads and the Conneaut Docks to Canadian National. One of the railroads was the Bessemer & Lake Erie here in Western PA. The B&LE has remained all black & orange until a couple of weeks ago when they sent an SD40-2W to help with motive power. So I get to add another scheme. That now gives me locomotives for 36 different railroads that run, or did run, here in Western PA. I also have models of 10 other railroads, but simply because I either like the paint scheme or some other reason. Then of course, there's a pre & post PCC streetcars for Pittsburgh Railways which was our primary means of transportation growing up, as my Dad never owned a car, or even had a driver's license.
I have to take the car back to the dealer tomorrow for a recall. They have contacted me a couple of times by phone, so I'll make life easier for everyone and get the work done. It's for door locks, but it's one of those deals that a series of things must occur before a problem arises. With just the wife and I, it probably won't happen, but someone may own the car after me.
Today, I need to clean the inside of the car, bring the items I don't want to freeze from the garage and put them in the cellar. The garage is detached and doesn't have heat. The grass needs cut hopefully for the last time. And oh yeah, the cannas need to be dug up and stored in the attic and the annuals need to be pulled up and discarded. I also have a couple of loads of wash going. Wow, now that I've tired myself out thinking about today's schedule, maybe I should take a nap...

Good morning. It's 62° with 96% humidity. The high will be 75°. with I'm expecting the CP/M co-processor for my mothers old Apple IIe to arrive today. That will have that computer almost complete internally. It still needs a new keyboard. I hope to get more work done on Paradise Cove today. There's still two properties and two homes to be done. That comes out to four programming blocks. Each block is an average of eight mini-blocks with two to ten lines of code each. One block can take an hour or more to program. When those blocks are done Nelson Street will be done. Then I can get started drawing up the coding for the layout in the train room segment. I still haven't decided whether to make the character a willing participant who's watching the action from a railfans perspective or an unwilling participant who's trapped in the action and has to search the train to find the means of escaping the altered reality he's found himself to be trapped in before God knows what happens to the train.
Good Morning!!!
Coffee and the four cheese omelet please. Thanks.
A 40 percent chance of showers, mainly before 3pm. Cloudy, with a high near 61.
late to Johnboy and CNCharlie!!!
Mowed the lawn/leaves yesterday aaaaaaand that was pretty much it. Where did the day go? I have no idea. No idea at all.
Wine tasting went well last night. As usual all the wines were hideous, but those wine-ohs were analyzing them and coming up with some opinions that were decidedly different than mine I tell you what. As I figured, for the most part the girls didn’t need me other than moral support and idle chat-chat.
Full day today and my phone is buzzing with incoming text messages already so that usually means requests for my assistance. Then wo*k tonight until....?

Flo, If I may be so bold, can I get steak & eggs this morning? Yep, a 16 oz T-bone and 3 eggs over easy, toast, hash browns and coffee in a Maryland Midland mug!
Gotta run to the Post Office this morning, then Staples, then Rite Aid. By then it should be warm enough to wash my car. (Black cars are such a pain to keep clean!) Then I can get back to the workbench and get some modeling done today!

Flo, just a glass of milk and some Oreo cookies for me.
I spent another boring day, looking over job postings. Did find one interesting, They are going to open up a new Kia dealership 25 minutes south of me. I've still got all my Kia certifications, might go back in the car biz again. Even though I'm not too keen on the biz, it is money! Then the parts SWMBO ordered for the stove arrived. Cost me 42 bucks to replace a burner and the wiring & connectors, VS. 85 bucks for parts plus a minimum of a C note in labor from a local appliance shop. Oh, and the workbench is a wreck again. Got a G scale caboose torn apart on one end, and an HO Hopper car on the other. At least I can't mix the parts up,,,or can I??
Ulrich Love the little layout so far. Wish I could get you over here to design something for my basement!
Richard, I agree. Thomas is worth every penny when you see the smiles on the little ones.
Happy Birthday, to CN Charlie and JohnBoy. yeah I know I'm a little late,,,,but there was this long line at the bakery,,,then they ran out of icing,,,then there was this........oh,,,,nebbermind!
Johnboy, you made the prayer list!
Well, the sandman is calling,,,catch you in the a.m.
Well, the grandkiids are here and I brought out the Thomas set I bought just for this visit. While watching the train go round the track, my three-year-old grandson says, "I am so excited to see this train!" It's all good.

Got my A2M0003 Apple disk drive today. It's been fully checked and tested. The speed and tracking are spot on. The CP/M co-processor is coming tomorrow.Got some more work done on Paradise Cove today. Two more properties and homes are left then Nelson Street will be done. I may be able to get those done tomorrow. It's time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
Good evening.
Happy Birthday, eh, to CN Charlie and JohnBoy!
CN Charlie .... Enjoy retirement. Soon you will be so busy, you will wonder how you found the time to go to work
JohnBoy .... Glad you made the trip to Billings, but I'm concerned about you. Praying you will soon get the heeling and relief you need.
Paul .... I'm glad to hear you are making progress on your layout.
Todd .... Well, I'm glad you at least made it to the train room.
V8 Dennis .... The LAX incident was on the national news of course. I have to wonder why they are trying to save the shooter's life.
We were at a funeral today. A church friend was cutting down a tree, a large branch broke off, and killed him. .... We never know when our number will be up. Something to think about.
I made more progress on my Burlington commuter cars today. There are four cars. Three were un-built kits. One had been put together but had problems. The windows had been installed with improper glue which ruined them. Also, the fourtj car had no floor and under floor details. I made a floor, and made resin casting detail parts using the parts from the kits as patterns. I hope to have these cars in operation in a couple of days.
Where is Barry? ..... Also, several other?
Ulrich ..... I think we excluded YGW from the list.... Also moelarrycurley. .... Several others, too.
To Johnboy and Charlie!
Of course we'd like to give greetings!
The age machine grinds one out for everybody sooner or later!
Good Morning Gang,
Boy, I came down to Billings to visit my youngest Son and all I have done is sleep. Haven't been feeling very good and I think I just let down with not having to go to work and the honey-do-list at home. The first night I slept from 9 to 9 and the second night I slept from mid-night to 3:00 the next afternoon. Then my Wife and Son took me out to a movie, we saw " Last Vegas", it starred Morgan Freeman, Robert De Nero, Mike Douglas and it was terrific. I know you all would get as big a kick out of it as I did. They must have had a real hoot filming it. Probably the highlight of their careers. Then back to the house where my Wife had prepared, while I slept earlier, a pulled pork supper and a brownie birthday cake. Two of my favorites. So it was indeed a great day even though it started poorly.
Thanks for all the Birthday wishes,it is special you Guys remembered in your busy lives.
CN. Charlie I hope your day was great as well. And that your last week was a peach and now slip into retirement and enjoy. Remember that your work didn't make you who you are you would have been an amazingly great Guy wherever you would have been employed. I think that is why I have worked as long as I have. When I retired from Greyhound, I kind of felt that I had lost my identity and had to be associated somewhere. It has taken a while but I have worked through that and could retire now no problem, and will fairly soon.
Healthwise, the Surgeon now wants an Ultra Sound Guided Biopsy, I have had one of each and a cat scan and MRI but now wants this combination together. It will be of the mass and my Thyroid. So we will comply. Really getting tired of waiting to get this overwith as I watch my health slip.
Son has now gone to work and my other half and I shall go out and mooch around Billings for a while.
I got to Jim's Junction on Sat. and bought a few goodies.a woodland scene (Ma & Pa's Camper) for my new campground, A (CMT) old GM city bus for in front of the Union Station and some odds and ends that you always need. I might go back there tomorrow morning and pick up another Downtown Deco kit I was admiring, we shall see.
Again, Thanks to Ulrich, Garry and Ray for the kind wishes both birthday and health wise.
C.C. Willie, please keep your darn snow, we do not want it and neither does CN Charlie & the boys.
Tipton Bill, that was a pleasant surprise to see you back and pouring that morning coffee. Sure hope all is well with you.
Prayers, Blessings and good wishes to all.
Johnboy out..............................and about.
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have a short stack of buttermilk pancakes with real NYS Maple Syrup and a side order of bacon to go along with a pot of dark roast coffee to keep my R&GV RR mug filled.
Happy belated birthday to CNCharlie and Johnboy. Hope it was a great day for each of you.
Currently 37°F outside with a high of 42°F forecast for this afternoon under partly skies. Right at the moment the big vright thing is up in the sky. Hope it keeps right on shining. Ended up making just under 300 kWh of electricity last month. This month should only be around 200 kWh. That time of year.
I am trying to get caught up on several items needing to get done a week, month, or more ago today. Have to take my Youth Protection Training for Boy Scouts before I send in all my membership forms due soon. Also have to see if I can find out some information about a building and business called Benham's Elevator for a friend of mine... he needs the information like yesterday for an article he is writing. Doing the wash while I sit here typing, have to go grocery shopping, pick up some Rx's call the dermatologists office to renew an Rx that has expired, clean house, cut down and clear garden growth, mow the lawn...etc. etc. etc! May even find time to look at the layout in passing.
Later!
- CNCharlie and Johnboy - even if it´s a little late!
CNCharlie - happy retirement, filled with good times and cheerful model railroading!
A very large cup of coffee please Chloe and a toasted cinnamon bun please.
Well today starts my first week of retirement. Sure seems odd to be at home and not at the office looking at the Accounts Receivable reports as I've done for the past 30+ years. I had a good time last week doing not very much. Let's see, on Tuesday and then my last day, Thursday, my day started out with coffee and reading the paper on the net, then I went for coffee and toast in the cafeteria, then a little more on the computer, then I was taken out for a nice lunch, then back for cake at the office, then time for coffee again and then home. I got quite a few nice retirement cards and one very large one signed by many people in the office. Overall a nice send-off.
On Saturday we went out for dinner with friends to celebrate my retirement and birthday which was yesterday. We went to a place called 529 Wellington where they really know serve wonderful beef. I had smoked salmon to start followed by a nice tenderloin and then a maple creme brule for dessert .
By the way, a Happy Birthday to Johnboy as I know yesterday was his day too.
Not sure if I'll get any train stuff done today as it is going up to about 40F and so a good day to finish up the yard work.
See you soon,
Currently it is 29 with an expected high of 47 under mostly cloudy skies.
I need to stop at the SS office to determine how much of my late wife's survivor benefit I van receive, and how much I can earn before they start to deduct money from the payment. Then off to w**k.
I w**k on the cemetery scene yesterday, and started to build the church that will sit next to the little grave yard. Also finished two of the billboard kits. Did not do much else except run trains, so it was a good day.
I
