Here, I'm using the full Reply option.
Again, I am inserting paragraphs.
3 of them once again, although the display shows that inserting a line break results in double spaced lines in this mode, as opposed to single spaced lines in the Quick Reply mode.
Make that 4 paragraphs. Where is the little pencil to edit posts? Oh, never mind. There's an Edit button again.

Gee, I seem to be posting after my own post here! Must be everyone is waiting for them to get everythingt back up and running with all the corrections, changes, undos and stuff that these downgrades always seem to have over the first few weeks. Wow! This new version even tells me how many words I have used... Probably important for those being charged by the word on the Dumb Schmartypants Phone thingies. IguessIcoulduselesswordsbynottypingspacesbetweenthem. Yep! That works!
Currently 34°F here in the Finger Lakes. The high earlier was 38°F under sunny skies so I can't complain. Low tonight will be 29°F. I have the wood stove lit for the evening. I do have to go out for the Boy Scout District Committee Meeting tonight, but it will be nice to come home to a warm house.
I spent a couple hours this afternoon putting some 1/2" pipe insulation on the lower grille on the PiP for Grille Blocking. Supposed to increase mpg about 4 to 6 mpg over the Winter months. It alows the ICE to warm up quicker and stay warmer longer so it won't run as often. Time will tell. I have seen a drop in mpg already with the temps falling 30° or so on average. I'm only blocking the lower grille so the Inverter will get all the cooling it needs. For the Inverter (radiator by the upper grille) the cooler the better for long life.
I also took a walk around the block this morning. The Doc says i should be walking 30 minutes at least 3 times a week. I need to add that to my daily schedule. Today I got about 15 minutes in and was glad to get back to the house... Both winded and cold!
Catch you all later!

OK Ray, so tell me since it's -30C here today, how do they put heat into the interior of the PIP? Off the inverter? Years ago, I drove a VW with the old air cooled engine and just about froze to death in the winter. The so called heater could barely keep the frost off the windshield.
Just wondering?

Vincent .... I tried to quote your last paragrph. Oh well.
I suggest you obtain a copy of Kalmbach's "Detailing Diesel Locomotives" by Jeff Wilson. The book is full of stuff you like to do.
In particular, it tells how to modify a Kato GP35 to follow CB&Q prototypical practices. The headlight is part of the project. He used a Detail Associates 1003 headlight on the nose of the GP35. That should agree with the SD40.

Ok, Ok. I tried to sign on earlier and found the message about "maintenace"..I did NOT know it meant a total reformation opf the site! BUT..i had a sneaky suspicion and idea it meant so! A premonition!
Dunno If I will like it or not, but I am sure I will get used to it. Somehow. Someday. Maybe.
hmm. Glad i checked tonihgt instead of the morning while bleery-eyed!
Maybe I will have a look-seee.

Yep, I drove several of them little VW Bugs way back when.... That's where I learned to live without heat while driving a car! Actually, near the end of the line for the Bug, the heaters were pretty good as they pulled heat off the exhast manifold rather than the air cooling the engine. As far as the PiP goes. In EV only you get a seat heater. Keeps my tush nice and warm, but that is about it.... However the ICE when running heats up very quickly and provides very good heating for the interior of the car just lijke any gas burning vehicle. If I am just going across town, like to the meeting tonight, I just use the seat heater and stay in EV. If I was driving to Canandaigua or Rochester, etc., I would let the ICE fire up and warm the cabin. I would for a longer trip still get the advantage of the electric charge as it would be used as part of the power used to move the car. Odly enough the cooling fluid in the PiP can be cycled by the exhaust manifold like in the old VWs to help heat the water jacket quickly so with the ICE running heat comes up very quickly (like about 3 minutes).
Chamomile tea, please.
Hope everyone is doing well these days. Can't seem to make it in here as often as I would prefer. Well, I'll be over by the wood stove, probably nodding off. Have a nice night all.
Cheers! Rob
Evening guys
Been working on a few cars, mostly sticking kadees on them. I did assemble a con-cor covered gondola kit, but I'm going to weather the "wood" bracing and the rest of the car tomorrow. I'll also weather 3 of the kadee cars a friend gave me wo weather. I still have a P2K covered hopper, accurail autorack, and a McKean centerbeam flat.
Garry, Thanks for the info.
Ray, I was curious about heat in hybrids as well. I'm suprised they don't just use an electric heater adapted to car use... My car (and AFAIK most fords from at least the 70s until the late 90s) runs the engine cooling fluid into a heat exchanger (heater coil, a real pain to replace) in the cabin under the dash. when the heater is on, the air is sucked through said heat exchanger. My car doesn't get warm though, it gets really hot on the inside with it on. But being in florida I only use it a few times a year. The plus to this system is it can be used to cool the engine if it overheats (like mine did when it blew it's water pump gasket).
anyways, I'm hitting the hay

Good Morning Folks!
What a surprise on this frosty Thursday morning! I had a hunch something like this would be coming up, as the old version was not "user friendly" for all those of us, who use a smart phone or tablet PC. I am not sure whether I like the new format. Needs some time to get used to.
No plans for the day. Maybe I´ll go over to my friends house to do some finishing touches on that little 0-6-0 steamer. Those gaps need to be filled prior to giving it a coat of primer...
Make it a great day!

I use an I-Phone, and the new forums software is more annoying, and less user friendly than the old one. It takes me twice as long to postbecause ofstupid spell check, and it is impossible RO go back to the topics. I also can't see the right side of some pictures and post as they are cut off.

I like the big font. It's much easier to read. Of course, here in the "Reply" box, the font is N-scale. I'll have to try that in Firefox, because I've noticed that some stuff in this new forum software is more Firefox-friendly than IE.
I am just getting so excited! I've had a U28B on pre-order at my LHS since the Clinton era, it seems. (DeWitt, not Bill.) Walthers is showing it scheduled for next Thursday, which is, of course, Thanksgiving. I should have it a week after that, assuming it doesn't slip again.

jeffrey-wimberlyImagine how that pilot who landed his 747 at the wrong airport feels this morningEmbarrassed. The plane can't take off because the runway is too short Dead. Now that's a problem!Oops
Yes, he's got issues. However, the runway length numbers they quoted were for a fully-loaded plane. They may be able to get it off if they empty it out. It's a cargo jet, so empty is really empty. Something similar happened nearby in New Hampshire, when a passenger jet landed at the tiny Nashua airport by mistake, instead of their intended destination of Manchester. They had to strap JATO packs to it to take off.
Planespotters should look at that one, though. It's a specially-modified 747, with an elevated roofline the entire length of the fuselage, not just the short upper deck which is the hallmark of 747s.
And yeah, my IE8 at work can't quote in these posts, but Firefox can.
Good morning. It's 60° with 100% humidity and patchy fog. The high will be 75°. with Got online late last night and quickly discovered the Model railroader forums have been upgraded - again. Just as I was comfortable with their old setup they throw in this new curve ball. So far it looks like about half the stuff on it doesn't work properly or not at all. Some of the features like spell check, preview and a couple others aren't working from what I can see. I haven't had a chance to wade through it all yet so I'm sure there's more to find.I may work on Oliver's layout adventure later. That depends on the weather. Looks like a good possibility of thunderstorms today. No other plans - so far.Now that's some serious community service!

Well, it can take pics, but there is no way to get them on my computer so I just delete any that are accidentally taken. No I don't text or have voice feemail on it either! Oh! Packer, I know there was model of the prius back a few years ago where they used an electric heater. Folks at the Prius chat group have said it ended up being more expensive and didn't work better than the old core off the ICE. AFAIK most of the Hybrids with an extended EV Range just use the standard old fashioned engine heat ones. Of course pure EVs use Electric elements for cabin heat. The small EV range in the PiP would use the battery too fast too be useful I think. It would also likely kick on the ICE early in very cold weather. That seems to be an issue with the PiP so when the temp gets down around freezing the ICE tends to fire unless you start off in "Golf Cart" mode for a mile or so. In fact I have been following a thread about that very issue over there. During Winter if I am driving to Rochester or Canandaigua, I generally just turn on the climate control to Auto and let the ICE run (That starts the ICE). Over that distance I would have to use some gas anyway and the electric charge adds to the mpg so it comes out about the same as if I froze in EV and then let the ICE run the rest of the way...
Hey! The sun just came out for a while... Think I shall enjoy it while I can. Currently 38°F outside with a predicted high of 45 later this afternoon.
Later!
