BLI Wabash Bluebird Train
Posted by Arras88 on Monday, July 22, 2013 7:56 AM

Hi,

I saw the announcement from BLI about their new passenger set - Wabash Bluebird Train. I have their CZ set and I love it. (good quality, lights, smooth running). I am thinking about ordering Bluebird set but I am not sure about locomotive matching to this set. I found that the train was pulled by a GE E8. I also saw pictures with Alco PA-1.

Which loco would be suitable to this set ? Is any model already available on the market ?

Most of the cars of this set do not match the Wabash cars in the Bluebird Set, they are just rehashed California Zephpyr cars that have been repainted to relettered to somewhat approximate the Wabash cars, specifically the dome is at the wrong end of the observation car.

Power for the Bluebird was usually one E-7 or one E-8, but two PA's would be required as the railroad wanted two prime movers on each locomotive  and the E's had two prime movers on each loco, put the PA's only had one.

Rule 3: Illuminating discussion of prototype history, equipment and operating practices is always welcome, but in the event of visitor-perceived anacronisms, detail descrepancies or operating errors, consult RULE 1!

I saw a report from the NMRA Convention by Bachmann that they are going to be releasing a Wabash Blue Bird locomotive, but it's not going to be an E-7, E-8, or PA but one of the NS "Heritage" SD70ACe series, with what my Italian friend calls "salami" sound (Tsunami).

BLI produced a pair of E7A locos, #1001 and #1001A, DCC with sound in the Paragon series.

I have both locos, and they occasionally still pop up on eBay.

When I bought them for my Dearborn Station setup, I could only find Walthers heavweight coaches, so I would be interested in the BLI cars and assume that they would somewhat match the locos.
