I think the term traction motor was confusing here although I think you meant a loco like a shay, climax or heisler..... maybe?  Smile

Anyway there are no takers... SO....

Show me something longer or wider than it is tall.

Almost 24 hours since the last reply, don't think very many people have 4th-of-July events being modeled on their layouts.  So I'm going to kick-start this thread with a photo of my most recent project.

There is a local propane dealer near me that has a pink and white propane delivery truck for the same cause

The biggest thing on the Boothbay RR Village layout is the roundhouse and maintenence building

Show me something going on for the 4th of July on your layout

Is your pink loco from a Lionel "girls train set" (which my mother thought was horrible, "STEAM ENGINES ARE BLACK!") or is it done for *** cancer advertising?  We have a concrete company with a pink cement mixer, strange to see, but it's for a good cause.

I don't think mother would have objected to your other non-black loco on your roster,  Sure wish she could have lived to see my current efforts.  She was a real train lover, model or full size.

Have fun,

Richard

Will keep (optimistically) on the same theme, work in progress.

EMD. Don

You haven't staid with the thread long enough for the music to start. Hearing the music once or twice isn't so bad but then it gets annoying especially so as I have to adjust the volume lower. So you are pretty lucky after all.

Suppose more that one person did this what in the heck would we have?

It must have been linked into the thread by mistake and I would hope that the person who posted it would have a moderator to delete his post other wise it will be with us until the July thread is started.

Maybe we need to get the NSA involved.Bow

Since there are no motor cycles let's see a drop side gondola

G Paine,

Mighty nice scratch building work.

I should have given credit to Fred Overkamp, one of volunteers at the museum. It is designed from a house he used to live in in RI that was built in the late 1700s or early 1800s. Unfortunately for us, he has taken a second retirement out in Utah

Thanks Phil,

My 2-6-0 has the motor in the cab so it's not the same one. Having a small layout, I like small locos and the short cars. I use the old Roundhouse Overton cars, but that one is much shorter so I might try bashing one out of a spare roundhouse one I have.

I've been meaning to say how much I like your trains on this bridge Phil. If that brass loco is a little 2-6-0 I've got one that needs a little mechanical work. It's a great little loco. I've alos got the two Lil Oscar and Piker coaches. What is the 2 bogie coach?

Thanks Alan.

The brass loco is a Far East Distributors mogul with the motor in the tender.  I installed a can motor and NWSL greabox and U-joint drive shaft.  It works pretty well.  I'm not sure of the kit I used for the longer car, but I think it was an old LaBelle kit.  Here are a couple of under construction photos:

Pride and Joy, huh?

Here are my Pennsy E-8s:

Both units were originally in ACL blue and yellow livery. I stripped them down, painted and decaled both units. The A unit has a MRC sound decoder and an oval speaker. The B-unit is also powered and has an Lenz decoder. They run well together and are quite impressive at the head of an eight-12 car passenger train.

What is your request???

Pride and Joy, huh?

Here are my Pennsy E-8s:

Both units were originally in ACL blue and yellow livery. I stripped them down, painted and decaled both units. The A unit has a MRC sound decoder and an oval speaker. The B-unit is also powered and has an Lenz decoder. They run well together and are quite impressive at the head of an eight-12 car passenger train.

Remember its your railroad

I know about the one post per page guideline, but I really want to post this.  My pride and joy is the Blackwater Cannonball (Daily passenger train).  Here it is on another source of pride - the John Allen Memorial Trestle (two concentric curved trestles):

I built the Pikers and Oscar from old Walthers metal/wood kits; the first class car is a shortened craftsman kit from another manufacturer.

Show me more pride and joy.

This is an to progress photo of a large backdrop building I made from leftover parts from other buildings. There are 4 buildings in front, a trough representng a street, and another 4 buildings in back. My main line runs underneath it between Sheepscott and through a view block into Greenvale Junction.

It is done and on my layout now; I just have to add some details behind the upstairs windows and figure out how to light it.

The request is for something else someone else built on your layout.

Well, just look at the picture and take your pick Big Smile

A neighbor had a tree service plant several very large trees in his yard and I pointed out to him if he had planted smaller trees they would take root faster and grow quite rapidly. He replied that he knew that but he didn’t have the time to wait.

I’m in that position with my layout. I don’t have the time left to build what I need for the layout so almost everything is RTR.

Let's honor Jarrell's request and show something else someone else built on your layout

Isn't that where we got stuck just a couple of "show me"s earlier?    The problem is one would have to go to their layout to get a photo of it.

This make sense. Then show me a craftsman kit you built on your own layout.

I once (no, not every time, just once) attempted to scratchbuild a small N scale structure with "everything" that would be in a real building.  All framing members, double-hung windows, individual board siding and floor, non-working water, gas, electrical and sewer connections, everything a nitpicker would ask for.

Decided to make it the United Farm Workers' Nit Picker's Local 257 union hall.

Show me something you made for somebody ELSE's layout.

I'm sure this is not at all what you meant, but it WAS on my layout when I took this picture, and I did get it for FREE.  When I started teaching history, I noticed a shop teacher had some mastodon or mammoth fossils sitting around his shop class and I asked if I could borrow some for a "historical evidence" discussion.  He said he had lots of them and gave me a 12,000 year old fossilized mammoth thigh bone, 15 pounds worth, and a few smaller ones.  I used them once a year in the prehistoric America introduction to the course, and stored them between times in my home workshop where I build sections before carrying them into the train room inside.  When the stickum came loose on my foam layout surface (arrow), I re-stickumed it and weighted it with the most convenient weight.  (Though not the most conventional one...)

Show me something CONVENIENT on your layout.
