Hi
Haven't been around for a while, cancer had a go at me - but okay now/so far -
I have just come up with a question someone might be able to help with...
I see from the map that there's a length of Railroad runs alongside Choctaw Drive in Baton Rouge...
Can anyone tell me what RR would have run here in 1968 please? And, maybe trackage rights or run-throughs? Maybe direct me to a few 1967/68 pictures?
A bog "PLEASE" and "THANKYOU" on all the above.
OOOPS! That should have been...
"A big "PLEASE" and "THANKYOU" on all the above". I can't see how to edit the post now...
Nice that you're back!
From my 1971 Rand McNally railroad atlas, the railroads shown in Baton Rouge were IC, L&A, and maybe T&P.
That's not an exact answer, but it should be a start.

Gidday Dave , hope you're back for a long, long, long time.
Using the logic that Canadian National Railway appear to have the current track rights along Choctaw Drive, and that they gained control of Illinois Central in 1998, I conclude, rightly or wrongly, that it would have been the Illinois Central Railroad in 1968.
Here's a link....

Just Hope I've pointed you in the right direction.

Illinois Central per USGS quad map dated 1963.
The "Baton Rouge Depot" ("Baton Rouge Engineer Depot" on 1953 map) was located a north of the current alignment of Chactaw at Sherwood Forest. In 1963 Chactaw ended approximately 1.5 mi west of that location

In 1939 it was the Yazoo & Mississippi Valley RR (Baton Rouge Hammond & Eastern Branch) The "Depot" is not shown on the 1939 map.
The line is also shown on the 1908 topo.
PDF's of the maps can be downloaded free at http://www.usgs.gov/
I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.
I don't have a leg to stand on.
Thanks guys!
I don't suppose thet the IC was bright orange in '68 was it... Am I right in thinking it was black with a white band round the middle?
Thanks again
You can't keep a good man down. Welcome back.
