Try Walthers. Life-Like and Athearn usually use the same wheel sets. Search this site for broken wheel set gears.

Sorry. I didn't notice that the link is not posted. I am new and still being monitored what I post so it must of been removed.

I tried walthers just finished talking to them and the wheel/truck/ gears is not available for my model.

Basically what I have is a life-life engine switcher car. Probably a sw9 or sw1200. All it says is it is a lifelike and the shell is Illinois central. road number 801.

I have a SW 9/1200 Proto 2000 model. These were made by Life-Like and have the Life-Like name on the bottom. What I'm looking at on mine is Kato trucks.

Those kato trucks will snap right into the bottom of the engine? Any chance you have a part number for them?

Can't help you with a part number. Does the inside of your loco look like this?

LifeLike and Athearn do NOT use the same wheel sets, they are in fact quite different from each other. However many of LifeLike's (and Walthers) Proto 1000 and Proto 2000 brands do. LifeLike and LifeLike Proto 1000/2000 are two different animals.

They are indeed very different. The Life-Like trainset quality locos I remember have four wheel drive and four wheel pickup with a tiny pancake motor built onto one of the trucks like the old 80's-90's Bachmann standard line diesels did. Life-Like Proto 1000/2000 have all all wheel pickup/all wheel drive with usually a centrally mounted can motor or semi-open motor like Athearn uses and good (usually) quality gears and wheels.

No the inside of mine is totally different. I have lead all around with two small cork screw gears on both ends.

Bucfantitan:

Your last post was blank. If you were trying to post a picture, read Jeffrey's picture posting link again and give it another try.

Personally, I am really curious to see the actual locomotive you are working on, and if anyone can tell you what will fill your needs, Jeffrey can!

From what I can see of the bottom of that front truck that looks similar to the old Athearn trucks. It's hard to tell though as I can't see what's under the shell. There were many manufacturers that used clones of the Athearn drive and Life-Like was one of them. There's enough there to see that it has a centrally mounted motor to power both the front and rear trucks and it looks like it may have had all wheel pickup as well. That makes it one of the higher priced models.

thank you very much for all your help so far. Is there another picture I could provide you to help you with locating the item number I should be looking for?

Thank you

I don't know if you're going to be able to find a truck for that unit unless somebody has one laying around somewhere. Unless I miss my guess it's been around for a number of years. It looks like it has the pickups on the side frames. What I do with old units like that is see if I can adapt them to take another type of truck or see if the shell can be easily mounted on another model chassis. But I can't tell you anything more about it as I don't have here in front of me.
