BLI Paragon(TM) Series Diesel EMD E7A - Fuel Tank
Posted by richhotrain on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 6:24 PM

Does anyone know if the fuel tank on this model is removable?

I can hear something moving around in there, and it sounds like a small screw, probably for a motor mount.

I would appreciate any advice.

Rich,

I did a search on Bli's web site and came up with a exploded diagram that shows that it is removable.  There are 4tabs,2 on each side naer the ends that snap into place to hold it on. It appears that they have to be pressed in to release them..

hope that helps some...

Frank,

That did not help "some".  It helped a lot.  In fact, that did it.

I don't know exactly which diagram you found.  I could only find the N Scale Paragon 2, although mine is an HO Scale Paragon.  No matter, they were the same.

Interestingly, there was no exploded view diagram in the box, just warranty papers and the owner's manual, but no exploded view diagram.

To get at those four fuel tank tabs, I had to remove the shell, which meant removing the couplers, which resulted in dislodging the the rear MU hoses - - fortunately no damage, just have to lightly glue the hoses back on.

Once I popped off the fuel tank, i found the source of the rattling.  No screws, but rather a 3/8" diameter plastic disc that covered a hole in the frame with the motor directly above it.  So, I am clueless what the purpose of the disc is: dust cover?  There are no moving parts above the hole so it is not for lube purposes.  In any event, I used a dab of scenic cement to re-mount it so I can remove it in the future if need be.

If anyone knows the reason for the disc, I would be interested in hearing from you.

Meanwhile, thank you very much, Frank, for your assistance.  Problem solved.

Perhaps its an Alien Space Craft!

More likely its an access cover that given its location is just not necessary.
