Wow, I thought I was the only one with this "problem"! When I first started using Ebay back around 2000, I never thought I'd be addicted to it, but here I am 12 years later with no empty stalls in the roundhouses, two to be exact, and still looking for more:

Oh well, just like you guys have already mentioned, there's worse things to spend my money on!

But you don't understand---I NEED that:

4th 2-8-8-4

6th 2-10-2

8th 4-8-2

5th 4-8-4

5th 4-6-6-4

21st 2-8-8-2

They're ESSENTIAL!   The layout looks EMPTY without them!!

Hi Burlington Northern #24

You and I have the same problem in different scales my layout is 4'6" square in HO.

I can't run the pride of the line either.

Thats a nice paint job you have done on the dome car.

I think you and I need the same Therapist who recommends building larger layouts for occupational therapy

As tongue-in-cheek as my post was, and I am happy you are all good sports, I hope you will permit me to splash a little cold water here...some 'thinking', or philosophy.  My own mother cautioned me about 18 years ago to find a way to contentment.  I think she may have been studying, or maybe channeling, the Stoics, the philosophers who advise us to curb our wants, to understand our needs, and to not get wrapped up in material things...they will eventually own us.  In Matthew's gospel, he says, "Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moths nor rust can corrupt, and where thieves may not break in.  For where your treasure lies, there lies your heart also."

We really can't have it all.  There's no point in trying, unless you like the pain of it.  Enjoy the things you have, live within your means, and surround yourselves with people who love you.

Wonder if you really don't have too much stuff? you know, boxes and boxes and boxes of unopened cars and scenery and buildings, no more room for the new pile of locomotives, and your room now looks like a box-store hobby shop? ?  take a look at George Carlins take on "stuff"  on youtube,  then go and have a look at your pile of "stuff"

I have to make a confession.  I model the Santa Fe in Oklahoma in 1989 and I use A LOT OF COVERED HOPPERS, THE GRAIN HAULING KIND.  One of the big players in grain storage and shipping was Farmland, and Intermountain offered a great covered hopper, at that time in a kit form and I went crazy buying those kits and building them.  Later came the RTR version and I was very happy.  Now today my Santa Fe has a LARGE inventory of grain cars thanks to IM and Xactrail, and the kit built cars don't match up in quality but they still run on the railroad.  Last evening I brought a grain train out of staging and noticed one of the cars looked "funny".  Closer examination, the roof walk piece was completely  gone.  My first thought was I had plastic eating goblins in that long tunnel from staging.  What to do?  Where would I find a replacement piece?  I searched for a couple of hours, no luck.  Now understand I have over 500 total grain cars on the layout, but I had to find that roof walk.

My wife voiced a couple of comments, one of which was that "those kit built cars never looked as good as the ones already built."  Finally, with great sighs and misgivings, I retired the remaining part of that car, knowing that some day that roof unit would reappear.  On the other hand, the discovery that the roof walk missing, was made Sunday evening, which followed a visit by the teen group from my church.  I wonder?

I think I've partially figured out my problem and it has to deal with my BN passenger train I want it to be longer that's why I'm always scouring for con cor cars much like I am on the look out for USAF military cars, so on and so forth. it's this need to complete and lengthen a train.

I continue to do the same darn thing! I've got more than enough locomotives and rolling stock  for my layout. Two years ago I got a little bored with the railroad and the era I was modeling, so I packed it in boxes and decided to model the modern era. I was only going to get one or two locomotives (CSX). Ha! That didn't last long. I wound up with at least a dozen! Right now I see myself with two issues. First, If I see something that is a good deal I'll usually get it even if I really don't need it. ( I get a lot of used stuff on E-Bay). Second if I see something that would make an interesting project and it's reasonably priced I'll get it too.I always seem to see something that with a little work would make an interesting model. Now this has allowed me to spend many enjoyable hours working on these projects. Only problem is when I'm done I wind up with more stuff. I'm still having a lot of fun, which is the point, but I got an awful lot of stuff. I wish I could get more interested in operations. Maybe that could change my focus from building stuff to running what I have.

Paul, With all the base closures, think of aircraft hangers--- I would love to build a layout to match what I have purchased the last twenty-five years, unfortuniately there are no more zepplin hangers, and the Navy is still using theirs at Lakehurst. Herrinchoker
