Picked the both of these up on ebay. Both powered Stewart/Katos for about $55 for the pair

I bought them for the drives, so the question becomes do I sell the shells, or strip them for my own use?

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

From the expanded view the A unit looks like an Athearn underframe. The B unit underfame looks to be an Athearn as well, especially the rear truck (viewer's left), however the front truck assembly does not show the same electrical pickups. Having seen your work for quite awhile now I would not be surprised to find out that you have managed to shoehorn a small block chevy motor into these units Smile, Wink & Grin.

I await the test results.

You're pretty close on the A unit. Not an Athearn frame but an Athearn clone from Stewart I believe. It was made to accept several truck and motor types. The motor is a PPW can motor, Proto trucks with Athearn side frames and Athearn nickel-silver wheels. The flywheels are Proto, shafts and shaft couplings are Proto/Athearn. The B unit has an Athearn blue box F7 frame, Mashima can motor, Proto 1000 trucks with Athearn nickel-silver wheels. The flywheels, shafts and shaft couplings are Kato/Stewart.

Wow...I think squeezing in the small block chevy motor may have been easier. You have represented so many of the major HO scale manufacturers with these two units you have once again earned your title of

Are they Bachmann or something else? Hmmm. The lead unit looks like a Bachmann FT riding on a Bachmann frame. The second unit looks like another Bachmann FT riding on Alco trucks. What's inside is anybody's guess as you are well known for your diesel rebuilds Dr Frankendiesel.

The only parts that are Bachmann are the shells and decoders. Perhaps these will provide a clue:

Nice work again,folks! I pick up a lot of ideas from this thread - Mononguy63: I like the "cinder block" look on the back of those walls,The buildings behind it look good,too.I'd like to see more of that area.

This is an overview lookin east from the yard.I've still got a good bit of scenery work to do...

Well......I`ve got nothing to post this weekend.........took the layout extension frame outside yesterday and gave it a good coat of golden oak stain.........maybe during the week I can get a layer or three of foam onto it and by the weekend get track laid.

Would do it today but I`m leaving my house in a few minutes to do a little railfanning and to visit a club in Bethlehem PA then back down to Hooters for dinner and see WWE`s Summerslam.

Richard, for this truck,  the entire model got a wash of india ink and isopropyl alcohol, and then the bed was heavily drybrushed with Poly Scale lt gray undercoat.

I did try using colored pencils first as they show on Model Train Factory, but I had the wrong kind/brand. 

I'm trying to model 1956, not live in it.

Action at Bullard's Bar.  The Yellowstone's easing an eastbound down the grade while the Daylight is heading westbound up the grade.  Left-handed running is due to an overpass below the bottom of the photo.

Yeah,Curt.I was thinking of that,possibly with a very small amount of black or dark gray mixed in.Those yard lights could get pretty dirty.  I'll try the dullcote alone on one I haven't installed yet,and if that doesn't quite get it I'll try darkening the mix.

Happy Weekend!  Lot's of great stuff so far - and the weekend is just starting.  This week I've been putting some dwarf signals at the west end of the yard - 4 down,5 to go.  They're wired in series through the electric contacts on the Blue Point turnout controllers,so that only one track can show "green" at any time,and in order to show "green",all the switches for that track out to the main have to be lined correctly. They don't look as bright to the naked eye as they do in the picture,but I'm still thinking I may try something to dim them down a bit.

Who says model railroading coems to a halt in the summer? Not this thread.

I finally dropped a Tsunami in my Sunset K-36. It hasn't run since DC days on the layout, so great to get it back in service. It pulls 9 cars up my 4%, 24" radius grade on the Silverton Branch, with maybe tractive effort for another 1 or 2 more.

Some scenes I've worked on over the summer...

Looks like a Food Co-op customer is getting a proposal...

At the grade crossing in Animas Forks, with the snow-shed covered turntable behind it and #4 coming out of the snowshed.

My goodness!  The weekend already?  At least the best thread of the week is here.  Great start I might add!

I have made some progress with the wall mold for the Octagon Blacksmith's shop.  Have actually started painting the latex rubber on the wall to form the mold.  Have a long way to go......

I was at a night photo shoot at the Rochester and Genesee Valley RR Museum last night.  The subject was our newly rebuilt 45 Tonner, RG&E Beebee Station #1941 (after the year it was built).  She spent many years switching coal hoppers at Beebee Power Station outside of Rochester, NY.  Very appropriate we have her back in operation this year as the coal came across the Hojack Bridge in Charlotte, NY.  The bridge is now being scrapped!  I think O. Winston Link would approve....  Maybe?

Here is how we shot the photo...  Notice the man standing at the left of the photo with the flash equipment in his hand.  He got caught in another flash from directly in front of the loco.
