I just wanted to send out a general thank you to the folks responsible for providing and moderating the forum and to the folks that take time to post and share their insight and experiences. I have found this to be an excellent venue for discussion and enjoyed the efforts put forth by nearly everyone. I am just amazed at the amount of information that is shared and that can be had for nothing more than asking questions.
Many times I will read something and it will address an issue that was not of immediate interest to me but for some reason crops up later and I find that I already have a solution. In some instances it will alert me to what may or may not be important limitations to a product and how to avoid them or correct them or in some cases can allow me to avoid a purchase that would not perform in the way I would desire it to. And many times I am presented with a new product that I did not know about or a solution to a problem I did not even know I had.
Thanks to all
J.Rob - that´s mighty fine of you to drop a line saying thank you.
I share your view on this forum - it is a great place to visit and participate. In the little over 3 years since I have joined I have learned so much, from track plan design all the way to building scenery, wiring and photography. Best of all, I have met friends!
When I got into the HO scale side of the hobby 8 years ago, I was totally unaware of this or any other model railroading forum. One day, when I visited my LHS, some of the regulars mentioned this forum and some other forums as well. I wound up joining six different forums, but only this one caught on with me, and one by one I stopped frequenting the other forums. But, I view this one as invaluable for the reasons mentioned by the OP.
Kudos to Kalmbach for maintaining the forum !

Hi!
Gotta add my sincere thanks to the folks that allow this Forum to be, and to those that "hold it together".
This has been my MR "Club" for years, and the learning and advice and encouragement I've received has been a major help to me.
I have tried to reciprocate as best I can, and hopefully helped some folks out along the way.
Thank you!
ENJOY !

Has it only be 3 years, Ulrich? Seems like you've been here forever...in a good way, that is.
I've regularly frequented the fora here for 8+ years now. I, too, have appreciated all the helpful info, tips, and insight from other members, as well as enjoyed getting to know folks and making friends with some members whom - more than likely - I will never have a chance to meet in person. I've been especially helped on the DCC and Prototype forums.
Most of all, I hope that - even in a small way - I've been as helpful to others as they have been to me. Many thank to Kalmbach for keeping it going.

It just SEEMS longer, huh, Tom? Actually, I'd like to add my thanks to Kalmbach for the forum. I have found more tips than I can recall here. And, the people I've met are a great bunch.

I've been around a while too. It's hard to believe that much time has gone by. While this forum has had some "moments" over the years, it's been a place I could always turn to for insight, inspiration, and some good laughs. It was sad to see the Atlas forum go away - so having this forum still going strong makes it a special place.
I don't get here as much anymore. Lately, I have not had much time for model railroading as I've been writing books (as time intensive as this hobby). But it's really nice to drop in and see everyone's work. I always seem to have time to look over WPF.
Keep up the great work!
I'll add my kudos also. I've learned a lot and appreciate it. There are a few folks, who shall remain nameless that tend to be a little too pssionate about certain subjects but I usually just ignore them and pay attention to the 99% that provide good solid information and opinions.
It goes without saying the the Forum is the members and without you I'd have been out of this hobby long ago.
Thanks for the advice and information given and to Kalmbach for hosting.

Hello everybody,
J.Rob, I totally agree with you. The wealth of information and experience on this forum is fantastic. I only wish I would have found this forum sooner and done more reading from the start.

I totally agree. This forum is excellent. Without the knowledge and insight I have gained here I would have been headed for some big blunders. Now I just make small blunders! ( I hope you have been able to tolerate my sense of humour ).

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
If it had not been for this this site, I would have more than likely quit this hobby 5 years ago. There is a learning curve to this hobby, while not hard some help goes a long way!

Gidday All, I would only echo the sentiments already finely expressed so I will just add my thanks to Kalmbach, the Moderators, and Members, even the ones I may appear to disagree with.
Cheers,the Bear.

I joined my first RR forum in March 2000 as a way to promote and learn about D&H history and quickly found my "extended" family in Railfans & Modelers alike. Sure like any family there has been some disagreements / fights but all-in-all I still see us all as family joined by a common love for the same hobby.

I know I've said it before, we all have, but I too would like to thank Kalmbach for supplying this forum. They add to those other forums, this being the best I have found, that make Model Railroading not just a hobby, but a real community of hobbyists. So thanks again Kalmbach and to each and every "neighbor" out there. Of course without you all, this forum would be empty and not the great place it is.

I often wonder what my layout would look like without the help I have received on this forum. Not having the time to join a club I find this forum a good place to hang out. I have had lots of laughs reading some of your post and it makes for a good place to hang out with a morning coffee or evening glass of wine.
Sometimes ones tone is hard to decipher reading their written word. I know I have come across to some in way's never intended. This comes from a career where I often had 3 radio's and 2 Phones hanging off me on the tarmac at Vancouver Airport. Talk was limited to what was needed to be said, but it was alway's in a very respectful but matter of fact way. The wife say's I am getting better now I'm retired.
I apologize to all those whose feathers I have ruffled unintentionally by sounding insensitive and or abrupt. Also echoing hon30critter's word's, I also hope you've been able to tolerate my attempt at humour. My wife just tells people I can't help myself.
You're a great bunch. Thanks to all.

I too would like to add my thanks to MR and everyone here. And for those worried about a little controversy or difference of opinion, that makes things interesting some times. As long as its respectful, keep it coming I would say.
Also I know for me, being able to share my layout progress, and my intermediate modelling skill, gives me motivation to make progress. Seeing what others are doing, inspiration.
Thanks,
erik

Brent, you bring up a good point. I've learned so many tips and techniques from the forum. When I started my layout (2001), I used construction techniques that I used on my first layout that I built in the 80s. I wish they would have had the forum back then. If I had to do over again, I would have made my current layout as an around-the-wall shelf layout. But, when I started, my EX wife wanted half the basement. I've considered starting over, but the thought of that makes me cringe .
I was one of the earliest participants in trains.com and thif forum. I joined in 2001--the first week of train.com existence. I will admit I don't participate as much as I used to dure mostly to busyness and time constraints. The forum has had its ups and downs. I survived the flame wars of the min 2000's--ugh! But overall I have benefited much from the interaction. When I have a question thas needs answering I know I can find one here. Thanks everyone.

I, too, am greatful to Kalmbach for this forum.
Even when they change and "improve" it on us. {I think we are due for another one soon groan}.
AS long as one is appreciative and gets something out of it, it is a good thing. There are a lot of bad sites out there, nice to know there are some good ones like this one moderated so well, and CLEAN in language, appearance and stature.
Let us continue to enjoy it and share/share alike!
Let us continue to learn what we can!

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.
Don't think I have said it before, so I will now -
THANK YOU!
To the Kalmbach crew (all of you who keep things running, online and in print...), the volunteer moderators (maybe they could help give those Colorado firefighters a tip or two... ), and all the helpful inhabitants of these forums/fora (think my former Latin teacher might've rolled over on that..).
The folks on all the topics and departments of Kalmbach's Online Communities have been very helpful for me when I started returning to MRR'ing a few years ago, and getting to meet a few of these online train buddies has been great. I frequently go to the various topics when I have a question, want to chew the fat (virtually speaking), or vent (sorta politely, though ) about how my day 'at the office' has gone.
Thanks to all of you for making this a very worthwhile place!

Years ago this was a rough open forum with little moderating.
Thankfully the wiser heads at MR decided to use volunteer moderators and they really cleaned up this forum up and discussion are far more civilized now then they was back then.
So,here's a well done and a big Thank You for the moderators.
