Nothing new here, but this is a shot from the old layout.

Sorry to all those in advance with dial-up.
I got a new F45. Turns out the previous owner put a decoder in it, and wired it up to have a working beacon.
My new F45 next to my old one
Also got an SW15:
And an NYC F3B, whose fate has yet to be determined. Either remove the DBs and the overhangs to model BN 703, totally obliterate it to make an RCU, trade it off for a different F-unit, or sell it.
I also got some SMDs and a BB F7 from some other members on this forum. I'm gonna have to buy some more tools before using the SMDs.

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Now that my mine loader is finished and i can run live loads i painted up and decaled some tyco cars in the Berwind scheme
Since i model Thurmond i thought this part of the decal was neat

Very groovy photos and modeling, peoples! Thanks for sharing.
I've been installing Bullfrog turnout controls on my N scale Free-moN Staging Yard module:
Don't worry, the knobs are protected by a slanted shelf that runs along the side of the module:
I've also been improving the Atlas C55 turnouts I used by shimming the throwbar under the stock rails:

Simple fix that improves performance 101%.
Back to building Bullfrogs!(before heading out to run a 5K with my daughter as her "running buddy" ;) )
Happy Mother's Day!

Awesome stuff.
I cant say that mine is all that glorious but it was a lot of work. I installed two new shelving units under the layout that have replaced the shelf brackets that were beginning to sag a little. This is new foundation is preparation for slight expansion project soon to come build a new layout that will allow continuous running, I guess a dog bone style shelf layout

I used that same coal loader as a sand & gravel loader on my layout, except the log cabin look did not go with Maine, so I changed to corrogated metal. "North Greenvale Sand & Gravel"

I tried toning mine down with black mascara dust and chalk. Looks like yours turned out good (with a few extras).
Gidday All, Great stuff as per usual. My offering is from when I was but a mere lad.
Cheers,the Bear.

Bear - great old Hornby set!
DJ - Great as usual.
Mr Funkeymonkey - Nice video on how to get Atlas turnouts working good. I will be approaching that by the end of the year with my extensions to the layout.
Here is something from me - An ex SP, UP 9-44CW patched and weathered by John 'The N scale addict" It arrived a week or so ago, Was too ill last weekend to post the pic.

Nice Work Everyone!! Excellent Modelling & Photography!
I got may Airbrush part & am now back in business! I needed to detail & mint out the models, so the wait was not a hold up. Glad to start getting color on these.
Chad,
What kind of compressor do you use for your Airbrush? I have a Brush, just need to find a compressor.

Hey htgguy,
I hope I'm not out of line, but I just had to adjust your image for proper white balance. Your modeling, composition, and lighting is awesome but the yellow wash just takes it all away.
If I may, here's the difference between incorrect and proper white balance.
Not only does it make the photo more real, but it brings out your fine modeling by showing your subtle variation in grass, separates the ballast, and especially shows off the dirt patch on the right corner!
I think that using proper white balance is the very first thing anyone should learn about their camera. For a more detailed explanation of what white balance is and why it is so important, check out this post.

Hi Chad & All,
I use an old Badger model (now called a Whirlwind compressor) that is all blue, has auto Shutoff at 40 Pounds & it connects to a full size water trap, then to a custom buffer tank that looks like a small Fat Propane tank (about 5"x8"), & it has two adjustable regulators & lines with quick connects.I custom built/configured the whole setup, the tank is custom & heavier than a propane tank & epoxy sealed on the inside, as there are numerous horror stories of those propane conversions eventually rusting out & causing accidents. With the buffer tank the compressor runs slightly less, & some experts say a tank will reduce compressor pulsing, but that could be just a gimmick. It has worked for me for over 20 years. There are newer one that are setup this way already, but back then I did not have those options, & took airbrushing more seriously too. My airbrush that I use for most model painting is an older Iwata HP-C with a small needle.
Started this unit in 1975. Modified front porch, V-16 fan spacing, grab irons, hand rails, proper steam generator castings. This week, added laser cut glazing, windshield wipers, MU hose, wind deflector/ rear view mirrors, and lift rings. Had the parts, so why not use them?
Now looking for a set of Athearn or Kato dash 2 trucks or drive train to complete before I forget what I am doing. Smooth and very quiet runner so may go with DCC?
Hello great stuff guys. I have been working on my sandhouse and towers. I put a roof on the sand bin. Made two towers out of bits of stuff from the junk box. Not sure how i will get the sand out of the cars yet? Any ides? And made one water colmn still need one more. Have a nice weekend Frank

Well, I finally completed the cars I have been working on all week.
This is an Front Range 50' Boxcar which is used to replicate an Evans 50' Boxcar, substituted a Detail Associates 10' Superior Door and extended the door tracks to match. Painted with Floquil B&M Blue and Black Paint and lettered with Herald King Decals.
This is an Athearn 50' PC&F RBL w/14' Door, used A-Line Sill Steps in place of the plastic steps, painted with Floquil Tuscan Red Paint and lettered with Herald King Decals.
This is a MDC - FMC 5277CF Boxcar, painted with Floquil B&M Blue and Black paint, lettered with Microscale Decals. This car was used in paper service.
Thanks for looking!

What browser are you using? If you're using IE, turn compatibility mode on.
I especially like the 2nd and 3rd cars you did. Do you know when the whitish roofs were used on the SP and SSW? I have 2 of the RTRs that have whitish roofs. I have an similar factory-painted MDC car to the last and was wondering what it was used for.
0-6-0Not sure how i will get the sand out of the cars yet? Any ides?
If you are asking about the green sand being delivered to the sand house for drying, you could have a grate in the tracks adjacent to the sand house and assume some kind of underground selivery systyem..
I have seen pictures of the MEC sand house at Rigby Yard in S. Portland from the 50s. They appear to hand shovel sand into the bin from the gondolas or hoppers that deliver. The B&W aireal photo shows a large area of light colored sand on the ground around the sand bin. You could add one of those coal conveyors on wheels next to the bin to help get the sand over the wall. This is the sand house I built for the Boothaby RR Village layout a couple of years ago

I use Firefox at home, I would not use Internet Exploder on a bet, but I have to use it at work.
I could not find any pictures of that class car that showed the roof, so I went with the instructions on the decal sheet and it did not note any color difference on the roof. I do know that the 62' RBL's for Coors Beer service did have the White Roofs, and I have painted my UP and MP cars with a white roof.
The FMC 5277's were used for paper loading service, as were assigned for that as noted by the XP AAR Classification on the car and from information I gleaned from Rail-Pictures.

If you want to run live loads on your layout you could use this set to run hopper cars up on top
of the sand container and let the cars dump it in it even comes with the elevated ramp
