Trainline FA shell on Proto FA chassis
Posted by draftingplans on Sunday, April 29, 2012 7:11 PM

Hi,

I have a friend give me two undecorated Walthers FA shells that I have painted and now looking to find a couple of powered FA chassis for them.

I would like to try and order Proto powered FA chassis from Walthers and install these repainted shells if anyone on this forum may know of or have tried this swap.

Thanks

Barry

Closest I have to that is a Trainline E7 shell on a Proto 2000 E6 chassis.

Hmm, wonder if it will fit. I have some Proto FA's and also some Walthers ones. Now that I bought an MTH A-B set, I have duplicate numbers. I have a spare Proto B unit that has lots of broken grabs (came that way) as well as a Walthers A already equipped iwth DCC and a golden-white LED headlight. Guess I could see if one fits the other. Or just renumber something, because my OTHER Walthers A is the same number as an A-B Proto set I have new in box. Not a bad place to be, too many locos - I really need to re-inventory things and get rid of some duplicate stuff.

Don;t mind me, just rambling. Worthwhile to find out if the shells fit though. I would suggets checkign eBay for random road names of the Protos to get a powered chassis. Since you don;t care what road name is on the Proto unit, find the cheapest - even a damaged one as long as the drive and the trucks are fine. You shoudl be able to find soemthing relatively inexpensive that way. I needed a replacement AThearn RS-3 drive and got one in this manner - about $25 for an $80 loco. I have a useless shell, but all I wanted was the drive to swap on my good shell.
