Information for those interested. The Lake County Historical Society (Two Harbors, MN) has two locomotives on display. One is the 3 Spot. One of the original D&IR 2-6-0s. The other is DM&IR Yellowstone #229. #229 has been repainted & refurbished by the Missabe Railroad Historical Society & will be dedicated on 4 May. This should be a very good photo opportunity for anyone who can attend.
Also the Lake County Historical Society maintains the tugboat Edna G. She served the DM&IR for over 76 years. The Edna G. is supposed to be the last steam powered tug in the United States. I am currently modeling the Edna G. based on the Walthers Railroad Tugboat kit.

Wish I could be there to see #229 in her restored glory. Those Missabe Yellowstones are my all-time favorite articulated locomotive--definitely Baldwin's finest hour.
I've got 3 Akanes on my model railroad. Even though I model Rio Grande standard gauge steam, I'm able to use them without too much 'fudging', as the Rio Grande borrowed 8 of the M-4's directly from Baldwin for use on their Moffat Tunnel and Tennessee Pass lines during WWII when the lakes were frozen over. The Rio Grande engineers said that they were the best steamers they ever ran.
Those Akane models might not be as highly detailed as current brass, but they are excellent runners and will haul anything I want to put behind them. Good models of a GREAT locomotive!

I'm glad to hear they repainted that locomotive. When I took the fall leaf viewing train from Duluth I was surprised to see how beat up it was. Kudos to the volunteers for their efforts.
