Day Out With Thomas The Tank Engine HO Scale Version
Posted by Trainboy001 on Saturday, April 21, 2012 4:05 AM

Hey I've been thinking about now how to turn a HO Bachmann Thomas The Tank Engine into a "dummy" like HIT Entertainment did with their design of the Standard Gauge and Narrow Gauge Versions of Thomas the Tank Engine I've already did something like what they did but I wanna go into more of a realistic look like My HO Bachmann Thomas The Tank Engine has been stripped and the motor and the center gear has been removed "which shouldn't have not been done meaning the center gear should not be removed just the motor" and the hook and loop coupler has been replaced with a  single Kadee Coupler now what I wanna do is redesign the frame of Thomas' Body to remove the hooks that are attached and make a hole a good size enough to fit the Kadee Knuckle into without ruining Thomas' Front and Back and being able to some what cover the holes enough that is it ok and will pass standard or close to the standard knuckle height so that locomotives will be able to connect to either sides of Thomas with no problem and can push him along do you guys think it is a good idea i think so it would remind me of the times I went to North Conway Scenic Railroad Or To Edaville Railroad and make everyday a Day Out With Thomas For Me

I suspect if you do an internet search, you might find someone has done the coupler conversion and posted the information online.

I guess I'm not clear why you want to remove the motor?? It may be that HIT had some non-powered Thomas models they used for some scenes, but what advantage would that be on a model railroad - unless you plan to push the engine around by hand??

For what it's worth, the Bachmann "Thomas" train equipment is OO scale (4mm = 1 foot) I believe, not HO (3.5mm = 1 foot) although both scales use "HO" track. Before the Thomas TV show went to computer generated images, the models they used were 1:32 scale German / Austrian built models modified to resemble British equipment. Also, there is no 'narrow-gauge Thomas'. Some of the characters are narrow-gauge engines which run on a narrow-gauge railway, but Thomas is standard gauge.
