TYCO Shock Control
Posted by traindaddy1 on Saturday, April 14, 2012 2:51 PM

Hi!  I've seen, what looks like, two identical red Tyco HO Santa Fe   Shock Control   box cars but the number on one is 12079 and on the other is 10279.   Would you know if one is older or if Tyco just decided to issue the two different numbers?  As always, many thanks.

You might poke around this site:

I still have a bunch of Tyco stuff.  I started out with it many years ago and still run some of it.  It's a sentimental kind of thing.  The site has a lot of good info.

The red 'Shock Control' box car was issued by Tyco in both the Brown Box and Red Box eras.

The Red Box version (T311U) has a large Santa Fe logo to the left of the door and is #12079.

The Brown Box version (339-A) has a large Santa Fe logo to the right of the door and is also #12079.

I couldn't find a car with the other number you mentioned but that certainly doesn't mean they didn't make it. I have loads of Tyco cars that don't show up in the Red Box and Brown Box listings.

Athearn made a couple, too, as Blue Box kits.
