Weekend Photo Fun- March 16-18, 2012

After intermittent periods devoid of modeling, I finally have something to contribute, so I'll start things off this weekend.

I recently picked up an Athearn RTR SD60, painted for Oakway Leasing, on Ebay. It has good looks and is a solid runner. Unfortunately, I can't take credit for the weathering, as this is exactly how it came. I'll be patching it as # 3506 for my fictional Tri State Rail, and the unit will be ex-GMTX, nee-EMDX/Oakway.

It's been a while since I've posted to this, and I really don't have anything new.  So I figured I'd dip into the archives.

I built this car for the Railroad Line Forum 60 day Challenge, I had posted pictures of the in progress car in the ANY CAR BUILDERS LEFT ?? thread.  I finished this car earlier this week and it is of an unusual prototype, the GATC 3500 CF Dryflow Car, which BLMA has just announced in N Scale, this car is in HO Scale.

This was a worthwhile experience building this kit-bash in a box by Eastern Car Works, I managed to corral another of these kits and will be doing the Wabash version of this car in the future.

I just finished weathering two 89' flat cars. I'm going to be creating the turbine windmill base loads for these this weekend.

I have been working on a gas station for my Free-mo module. It started life as a Scale Structures kit which I have modified heavily and updated to represent a service station from the 1960's I have essentially completed the interior detailing, except for some figures, automobiles and weathering in a few spots.

As always, GREAT SHOTS! Got to give a tip 'o the hat to Greg, the details you are putting into the repair garage are just amazing. Not sure if I would have the patience for that. Curt, that coaling tower/scene looks good. I expect to see a video on youtube soon

I have made a bit of progress in the "new" room.  The old yard has completely disappeared and a new Sheetrock backdrop is in and awaits painting.

I also had a bit of an accident while installing the downspouts from the flat roofs on the powerhouse a couple weeks ago.  I had an octagonal plaster one finished and setting where it would end up being.  Unfortunately I managed to knock it over and it broke.  That wasn't a huge problem as the break was clean, but while gluing it back together I dropped it again.  This time to the concrete floor.  The remains are sitting in front of the powerhouse.  Thanks to the generosity of a member of this forum, a box arrived earlier this week and very nice round chimney was inside.  It was primed and colored with artists pencils as the main building was.  I think it looks even better than the original!

Hi,

I didn't have much time to work on the layout this week.

Here some pictures of a kitbash made during november 2011 to build a Railway Express Agency for my Town of Corinnesburgh.

The building is a Nscale Vollmer "Moritzburg Station" heavily modified whith scratchbuild canopy roof, modified roof and adding doors and details.

In the beginning, the building was the central station of an old previous European style layout.

The hall is two Vollmer "Karlsbad Platform" also modified to fit the station and whith a new shingles roof.

The base is kitbash like most of the details; the building and the hall are lighted whith leds.

It's been pretty slow this weekend so I think I will post again. I just finished weathering my coal cars. I think they are the easiest to do for a start. I did a black acyrlic wash, let dry overnight followed by dry brushing slightly diluted black acyrlic paint. Afterwords I sprayed a generic Dull Cote on them. I still need to do trucks and wheels next week.

Great photos and work.  Since there is a major storm passing through Southern California right now, I decided to get some work done on my tunnel and portal that leads the way to Carson City on my V & T Lines.

Work has begun on my Pepsi Plant. Taking the Magic Pan Bakeries and turning it into a Pepsi bottler/distribution center. Think I'm gonna move my top trim piece up some to expose more brick above the loading dock doors. Still need to trim the trim down too.

And then received some Sky.....  Nice clear day like this afternoon here in the Finger Lakes.  Fog, Clouds, and trees will appear next!

Thanks Bob!  That wall is just under 17'.  The layout occupies 2 rooms down cellar and has a total space of about 450 sq. feet.

It is actually a two-master - I have not yet completed the second mast!

The kit is made by Mamoli of Italy as a part of their Mini Mamoli series of beginner´s kits. Don´t let that deceive you, though, It is a craftsman kit and requires some talent and a lot of patience to assemble. The kit contains a machined wooden hull, a box of lumber strips, detail parts and a set of lousy instructions.

Ages of Sail sells the kit in the US.

They state the scale as 1/140, but it is 1/160.

I've been doing some work on the river module tonight, I have managed to get a track laid, not secured yet though.

 

 

I also built this pier, using balsa wood and covered it with styrene cut stone sheet, I still haven't weathered it.
