I located their information online, and when I called the number listed, no one answers; not even an answering machine. I remember reading numerous posts about them in the past, and they weren't very flattering. It's possible that they've gone the way of the dodo.

There already is a thread on this topic, and it is still on page 1 of this forum: http://cs.trains.com/TRCCS/forums/t/154631.aspx

The additional question is are there others like me where 1st Place Hobbies has my money and I don't have my order? I am only two hours from their store in Indiana and they say my order was shipped over two weeks ago. I hope as mentioned earlier in this discussion that they are just SLOW. With no way to contact them I hope I can get my money back.

How did you pay for your order?  Unless you sent them cash, they probably don't really have your money

There is a common misconception with credit cards that the electronic scan of the card at a merchant or the entering of a CC number on-line charges your account.  It doesn't.  It merely holds the funds for a few days.  If no sales slip is received from the merchant within a designated time, the hold is released and your account is not debited.

With most other methods of payment, you can stop payment (checks, money orders, etc.), unless they've already cashed it.
