It is a lazy day for me today. No paperwork to keep up with. No buyers and sellers squabbling in my ear. I just want to enjoy the day.

Ulrich: I love the layout shots you do. They look so big and lively. I keep expecting to see something happen.

Jeff: Ezra's yard looks like it needs a good cleaning. Great looking deadfall.

Good Afternoon,

it is a somewhat dull day today. I spend all of the morning reading my son´s thesis and correcting his spelling. I tell you, it is an awesome task to read 100 pages of something you don´t understand a word about! As far as I understood it, he has developed a system to simulate the behavior of two different liquids under varying pressures and temperatures - that´s a simulation which could be used for hydro-fracking. Apparently, that has not been done before.

I also build a new module. It has no scenery, yet. I would like it to be a transition module from mountain scenery to a more urban setting, but I still need to think about it.

Sue - yup, the pictures make you think it is much bigger. As of today, the layout now measures 10´ by 6", that´d be a whopping 18´6" by 12" in HO scale. Not really that small any more.

No major activities for the rest of the day - just a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Wouldn't it be nice to get on with me neighbors
But they make it very clear they've got no room for ravers

They stop me from groovin, they bang on me wall
They're doin me crust in it's no good at all,

Lazy sunday afternoon, I've got no mind to worry, close my eyes and
Drift away

Here we all are sittin in a rainbow(do do do do)
Cor blimey hallo missus Jones hows your Berts lumbago?
I'll sing you a song with no words and no tune
I'll sing at your party while you suss out the moon, oh yeah

Lazy sunday afternoon, I got no mind to worry,
Close my eyes and drift away, yea

Aroo de do de do aroo de do de di day
Aroo de do de dum aree de de do dee

Theres no one to hear me, theres nothin to say,
And no one can stop me from feelin this way

Lazy sunday afternoon I've got no mind to worry
Close my eyes and drift away

Lazy sunday afternoon I've got no mind to worry
Close my eyes and drift a-
Close my eyes and drift away
Close my eyes and drift away   Whistling

Garry- Isn't that true about most things?. When the government (any level) gets involved to "fix" a problem then the problem usually becomes worse.

Amen to that.

Curt,  You are going like gang busters.  The photos are great.  Have a good operating session.

Ulrich,  I always have to remind myself that your layout is not huge.  You photograph in a way that makes it look much deeper.Thumbs Up

Ray,  Speaking of "WOW",  I am impressed with your detail.

Jeffrey,  I want a lawn chair on that deck.  Looks like a good place to enjoy the sun.Cool

Galaxy,  I am still looking for some photos.  Your links are great.

We had a fun operating session yesterday.  When we arrived,  the owner of the layout had preassigned us, so I dispatched and Larry worked with a new operator on an extra. Fun time.  Next month is Sound Rails.  Operators from all over the US & Canada will be there.  It will be lots of fun.

Later,  Sue

Morning All,

Well the darn animals woke me at 6 AM today (was not happy). Today's temp is supposed to be 65 F and we have already had rain. Don't worry for us though, by Thursday it's back to 80 F. Thanks to everyone for your kind words on my modeling. I'm trying to decide (scenery wise) what to put next to the coaling tower when it is back in. Right now I'm leaning towards a small hill and a ton of trees (already have). I w**k tonight and a friend from the club may come over for a bit today to run trains in the afternoon.

Everyone take care.

Good morning. It's 36° and sunny. High today is due to be 70°.

Nothing planned for today except try to rest and recover from the past couple of days. Haven't been able to get much sleep lately. Only got two or three hours last night.

Big Smile

Happy SOLDIERS DAY ! .......... (March Forth) ............ Whistling..... Oh, never mind.......

Laugh

Curt .... Your buildings and layout look very good!

Lee ... Good to see you. Was the tragic school shooting a few days ago near you?

YouGottaWanta .... Long tome - No see. .... Keep in touch. You friends in the Diner care about you.

V8 and Lion .... You were talking about H&HS ads opposing tobacco smoking in CA. Here is my understanding. The Tobacco Master Settlement means  the tobacco companies are sending money to state governments and not H&HS. The money to the states is to pay for higher Medicaid spending attributed to health problems caused by smoking. It is shameful to see H&HS wasting money because that department causes most of the federal deficits. Some of the same people opposed to tobacco are trying to legalize pot.

V8 (again) .... How is this for high speed rail?

The E5 locomotives were produced in the late 1930's and could go up to 120 mph. The train is the  Twin Cities Zephyr. I used to ride that train in my youth when I lived in IL. It's schedule had it traveling 100 mph in parts of its daily trip. Illinois Central, Santa Fe and other railroads also had passenger trains going that fast on their schedules.

All of this was done in the private sectors without taxpayer funding. In 1950, US railroads had the best passenger trains in the world. That was not good enough for our government which implemented policies making passenger trains unprofitable. Government funded highways and airports causing loss of business while government did things to raise the railroads' costs for operating the passenger trains. Government meddling put passenger trains out of business. Eventually, Congress created Amtrak to replace private sector passenger trains. At inception, Amtrak drastically cut service. Congress expects Amtrak to break even while Congress has done everything it could to make it absolutely impossible for Amtrak to break even.

That is one reason why I model passenger trains in the 1950's. I stopped the clock before government destroyed a great network of passenger trains.

Todd ... We don't have Menards. The closest home improvement store is Lowe's in Murray. However, the bridge collapse changed that.  It used to be a half hour away, but now it is 1 1/2 hours away. ... Alternatively, I go east 45 minutes to Lowes in Hopkinsville.

Good Morning!! Coffee please and of course the Sunday Breakfast BUFF-ayyyy. Thanks.

Snow likely, mainly after noon. Increasing clouds, with a high near 39. West northwest wind between 5 and 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Bill- Thanks for the photo of the bridge. It is similar to the one I am making out of two under girder kits with supports like the ones on the right. Something I personally hadn’t seen until that picture. Thanks.

Well, today I probably should do our taxes. Seems I had to do them last year too. HmHmm. Anyway, I have a lot of straightening up to do around here. I did get into the train room yesterday. There are a ton of cobwebs. I’ll be a week just cleaning the thing up.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Good Morning,

V8, I’ve been watching the Hi-speed rail progress for a while now.  It looks like they want to use Chicago as the hub and expand outward.  It will be interesting to see how this will affect the bridges in my area of responsibility.  I think the railroads are supporting it because they will be allowed to run hi-speed freight as well.

Curt, your layout looks great.  I need to invite you up here to get me moving, LOL.

Ulrich, the layout looks great!

Thoughts and prayers to those suffering from the high winds/tornados to the south, we only had 50-60Kts winds and very little problems.

I’m heading to Erie, PA this morning for what my friends describe as a:  “garage sale train show”.  I’m not looking for rolling stock, I will keep saying this the entire drive then I will come home with half a dozen 40’ box cars, LOL.

Most the time she does good, but like G-pa, she has bad days. We found a good doctor for her in Mattoon, but he died suddenly 5-6 week ago. She starts going to a new one at Riley’s in Indy this month.

Best gets moving n try for some more sleep, got up bout 2 wide awake. Think I’ll try for some more shuteye.

Wouldn't do me much good if it was. I can count the numbers of beers I drink in a month on one hand.

Eh? I could count the number of beers I had in the past 40 years on one hand, and tied behind my back at that! Now Diet Pepsi (or Diet Dr. Pepper when I can get it) is a different matter entirely. I drink about 5 gallons of that stuff a week. I know this because I am the one who has to refill the Pepsi machine. Each weekend I decant 24 bottles to put in my fridge, and that empties one five gallon tank.

Evening All,

Back from the club. The AC was not working so it was pretty darn warm since it got up to 89 F today. I think summer is going to be brutal this year. I w**k tomorrow 5PM-1AM (I can't wait).

Cape Jim- Yep, the business section is all new. Did it all today after ballasting. The Farm was just  put back after ballasting.

Ken- No the last new hills that I did was when I reworked the back outer loop elevating it about a month ago.

Everybody have a good night.

Aw, shucks. And I thought that was where you kept the 'shine and roadkill!

Are you sure it's not a "kegerator"?

Wouldn't do me much good if it was. I can count the numbers of beers I drink in a month on one hand.

Went to my parents place for dinner. My father and I finished off the General Sherman's Breakfast and some pizza. Also had fresh green onions and hot homemade cornbread. No work on the layout today.

Jeff, does that fridge/freezer outside of your door w**k, or is it just for general storage? I was just wondering, since it was outside. I've seen some like that on farms where they were outside (with a padlock, though).

Nah. It doesn't work. I just use it to store some old computer cases and power supplies. When it was working it was at the fire station. On enight a fire truck backed into it and it never worked again. I brought it home to keep stuff in.

Evenin' folks!

Flo, just a dozen hot Buffalo wings, chips, celery sticks w/ blue cheese dressing, and root beer for me.  I'll go sit at the Rivet Counter for a bit.....

Jim,  (thanks BTW!) I have to keep the windows nice and clean as people need to be able to see what is inside.  You must have missed me posting this which is on the main floor (2nd. floor actually) of the plant:

I went to meet and visit the gentleman who is going to have his On30 layout open for the April NMRA Division Meet....  All I can say is WOW!    He has about 2000 square feet of layout set up for operations.  It is in 1919 (give or take a few years) and is beautifully sceniced and laid out.  He still has a lot of scenery to do, but it is well on its way at this point.  My division is going to love this one!  I'm hoping he will decide to stay in the NMRA after his 6 month Railpass runs out.

I better get moving if I am going to even check to see if I have a railroad down cellar today...

Catch you all a bit later!

Good Evening, Chloe - I'll have the roast beef special, with the steamed asparagus, a side salad and mashed potatoes, and a glass of your best Finger Lakes wine, please. Dinner Thank you!

Nope, after seeing Ray's w**k, I definitely do NOT qualify to sit at the RC... Ray, that powerhouse of yours is coming along VERY well! BowBow Only problem is, those windows are so clean (and big) that you know you're gonna have to come up with an interior, right? Smile, Wink & GrinWhistling I'd agree that you have lots of reasons/excuses for those downspouts NEEDING to be that oversized. Smile, Wink & Grin

Oh, and I'd agree with you about the TV - I only get the over-the-air broadcast channels (and mostly just watch the news (and a few shows - like say, NCIS...)Whistling

Ken, good to hear your area dodged the nasty weather. Good also to hear that The Larry's doin's Oops have begun to catch up with him.Devil As Ray said, maybe some of *your* sales will be credited back to you, and help compensate a bit for any reduced overtime at your w**k.

Rob, it's good that you and your neighbors watch each other's back (so to speak) - one of the better things about living in the country. Thumbs Up

Bill T. - I like that elevated tower photo that you posted. Smile Got your PM, also.

Curt - how's the ballasting going? (Hmm, maybe I'd better wade through the rest of the posts to see if you put some photos up...) But as you said, quality ballasting time ought not to be wasted, eh? Wink Hey, were those photos you posted of that area you just re-did the curves on? If so, you w**k FAST! Wow

Todd, our new Menard's will be about 2-3 blocks down the street from the Lowe's (and that's just because there are several car dealerships on that street between 'em, so there wouldn't be much room for the Menard's any closer. Good to hear about the strengths (pricing-wise) of each place, too. Thanks! I see you've caught the Airstream fever too, eh? Oh, and glad to hear that Brenda's not letting you get too bored there... Whistling

Inch/Mike, I figured there was no way that you'd stop sittin' for your kids/grandkids. Yeah Sorry to hear about J-Bird - when did they diagnose her with the R.A.? (Must've been one of those times when I was out for a while from the Diner, I guess) Yep, Grand-dads sometimes do tend to say things a bit un-P.C...Smile, Wink & Grin

Ulrich - good to see you had some MRR time there - and thank you for posting that pic of your bracket, as I have need to build such a device for my layout modules, too! Haven't heard as much about Europe's weather lately on our news; have you been having more moderate or calmer weather? Your layout's looking good there! Yeah

Galaxy, no overdoing there - as you said, you might wind up paying for it (the next couple of days, even)! Surprise Sounds like you already have done a pretty goodly amount (to me, at least). Wink

Jeff, does that fridge/freezer outside of your door w**k, or is it just for general storage? I was just wondering, since it was outside. I've seen some like that on farms where they were outside (with a padlock, though).

I did get some structures painted (my) 'brick red') to touch up some new corners and sections. They're drying at home now. I had that big (Walthers modular design) transfer warehouse come apart (have been trying to get the pieces lined up and add the cornice pieces glued on, then glue the pilaster columns over the wall piece joints so they line up better than last time I tried assembling THAT building....

I'll be at the window booth, polishing off my Dinner for now. (Yum!)

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape G.

Got the starter button installed just to the right of the steering column. Turn key to run, press the button and it fires right up. Perfect.

Following instructions from fellow Diners, did the same with my pickup truck. Starts right up. Only problem is once it is warmed up, if I turn the engine off, it does not want to restart. I need a mechanic.

Been busy tearing out an old fence to make way  for a small road.  I'm beat.

Grilled burgers, please.

winds here in Hamilton are bad, how are they London way? have they calmed down a bit?

We had winds here yesterday gusting up to 40 mph off the lake. Some branches down but nothing serious.

Nuttin' wrong with that...many new cars today have push button starters...so you have just elevated your older van to a more "modern feel"!!!

Well scrubbed down the stove with Easy Off, replaced the tinfoil liners in the oven and stove top . Folded a load of laundry and have another one going. Did the dishes. Will run vaccuum soon as I get off here. Need to weed out my 'collection of papers" from last years flood...I was gonna save them, but don't think I will not necessary. If I really wanted mementos of it, there are a couple of books put out with pics and everything on it. I don't need to have mementos. SO i will trash them I think...TIme to get about some spring cleaning!!!

Now I hope I haven't/don't overdue it so I pay for it the next two days! Time will tell!

Should clean off the Xmas layout {it is still on the table as there really is no other place to put it}.

Whoa, nelly! I better not get TO ahead of myself! Or I WILL be in agony.

Had very high winds here and the electricity bounced a few times earlier, but winds have died down now. With the weather change came a migraine this AM, but the new med seems to have abated it fairly well, though now my head is starting to throb again.

Sloppy Joes tonight for dinner!!! YUM!!
