Good Morning,

Well, I managed to clean out the dining room last night.  Today I’ll be working in the basement.  Funny; I don’t remember working this hard to mess it up…

Morning Guys & Sue!   I got a quite a bit of bench work done yesterday. Our club had a meeting yesterday we had a record attendance. Each month our group grows by a few new members. We had the VP from ExactRail come and tell us all about their company. It was a good time. Great to get out and spend some time with some good people who have the same addiction we all do. I am gonna have a cup and get busy, I will pop in later to see what you are all up to today. Enjoy your Sunday!

Lee, I hear you with the clean up to mess up thing! My wife keeps our house spotless and with my  Dog and Me   around she has plenty to do.  She had to go to the office yesterday so I went wild with noisy/messy tools.... Today I have a ton of kissing up to do!!

Good morning. It's 65° and cloudy. The high will be 72°. It will be cloudy with a 50% chance of showers.

Today I plan to have a general cleanup on the layout. There's quite a bit of clutter from recent projects and it's starting to take over. Yesterday I had to make repairs on an Athearn tractor trailer as the fifth wheel had broken off. A drop of super glue later and it was back where it belonged, after I peeled my fingertip off the back of the truck that is. I gave a good two hours to dry before reattaching the trailer so there was no possibility of them being permanently joined. I also went to Lowe's to get two bottles of super glue gel, two rolls of one inch wide masking tape, three mis-tinted paint samples, a new light switch and ten rolls of paper towels. Then on to Wal-Mart to get the second half of the grocery shopping done. Wal-Mart was a mad house as it seemed everybody else had the same idea. Today I'll be recovering from that.

Good Afternoon Gang!

It´s past lunchtime, so I´ll just settle for some coffee, please.

Things are not looking bright at this end of the Big Pond. Today´s dinner appointment has just been canceled, right after Petra had set up everything. I am glad she is not angry, just as disappointed as I am. We had hoped to be able to address those pressing issues and find a solution. As things look now, I won´t be in a job by January - another bubble that has burst.

I had so many hopes attached to that job.

I have positively reached the end of my wits now - guess I need a miracle to happen. I am glad that Petra is giving me so much support, without her, I´d be completely lost.

Not a happy camper anymore.

Have a good day!

Good Morning!! Coffee and the Sunday Breakfast Buffet please. Thanks.

Mostly cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 44 by 5pm. Currently it’s 50.

Rob- 50 to 60 horse should be a good choice. Actually my buddy pulls a 8 row planter with his 60hp AGCO. It’s front wheel assist and yes, it’s pretty maxed out, but he’s done it for probably, 8-10 years. I wouldn’t recommend THAT, but just to get you an idea. It has a bucket on it and usually has the brush hog. It will do quite a bit.

Ulrich- I so sorry to hear of the latest in the job situation. Are they paying you yet? If not I certainly hope you receive some sort of compensation for what you’ve done so far. Keep your chin up. You are trying and that is much more than can be said for many over here.

Was gonna say something to Jeff, but I can't remember what it was....hm. Or was it Ray. Maybe Lee. OH YAH, now I remember...

Floor Wars: Williamsville- Phase One of the mission is nearing completion. I should have it completed by the end of this leisurely day. Then comes clean up (THAT could take a decade). Then on to Phase TWO. The hall bathroom (oooooo) THAT probably won't happen until next week as her Pampered Chef partay is Sunday and I know she won't trust me to have it back working by then. Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Todd - compensation? Oh, yeah, they pay the gas I use up to go there, but no compensation for the extra wear and tear of my old car, nor the higher insurance rate I have to pay due to the extra mileage. If I were a management consultant, they´d owe me $ 50,000 for all the work I have chipped in during the last year.

 Morning Folks!

 Flo, coffee please.

Been down in the dumps yesterday. I stopped by the dinner a few times but did not feel like saying anything.

Work Front Well I am doing better than Ulrich I guess but things have taken a turn for the worst at work. They are going to make me a salesperson and not management. I cannot disagree with there decision, I have a lot to learn about the business. Big let down is I am losing my salary and will be hourly + commission. Hourly rate is only $8.00 a hour and I will only be working 40 hours a week. Sigh Again I will not know week from week what I will be making. Plus there goes Christmas again, I was hoping to have money this time around. Bang Head

But, I am still working and one thing I have seem. There is plenty of room to move up in this company. Someone is all wise quieting.

Newer Town Car. Starting to think I should have pass this one up. Drivers window stopped working Saturday, sunroof is not sealing, needs shocks and front springs and I am starting to hear pooping sounds once a while. Kicker is now there are several Town Cars listed for sale for only $1,000.00 more than I paid for this one with under 115,000 miles on them.

Well, I go into work today at 10:00 AM. God news is it is the Fairview Heights store, only 9.3 miles to work!

 See you all latter.

***ROAR, was there much money in raising cows?

Rob

This is hard to say. We would sell about 150 calves each year, but if we bought any farm equipment we always paid cash and wrote it of in that first year, and so a negative number in the farm column could still have been a very good year. On the whole our business manager was pleased with the farming operation, but our farmers were getting too old to do the work. We made good money selling the cows so the farm column will look very good this year. We are also renting our land to a neighbor, and so that column will still look good even while we are doing nothing but collecting the rent. We are waiting for an oil well or two on our property, but so far the closest wells are still about 20 miles away. Big Electric companies are also looking at a 60 sq mi map in our area for wind turbines. We could get one of those too.

Big Energy is good to North Dakota, but a little too much of a good thing. We do not have the infrastructure and the housing to support all of the workers that are pouring in., and places like Walmart and restaurants are hurting for help even at double the minimum wage. You all could come out here and find work, but you will not find housing. A tent does not work up here, nor does any sort of a mobile home unless it is properly situated and insulated. A trailer just will not do.

Traffic on our highways has become a nightmare, with over 8000 trucks a day in a little town that is used to no more than 80. Oil pipelines are scarce, and so the tank cars are making a big time comeback on the railroad. Some fanatics in a certain administration want to shut off all domestic energy, preferring to dump money into bankrupt ideas such as Solyndra, and sicking the EPA on the rest of us. But politics are out of bounds on this forum, so I'll not say any names.

Housing is both good and bad. There are not enough houses. People who own their own are fine, but those who as rent have found rents jumping from $400 to $2000 and more per month just overnight. A lot of the elderly must move elsewhere on a short notice.

Good morning, Chloe.  Coffee, please.  I would sit in this back booth and wait to see who drops in, but everyone seems so busy.

Larry and I are back from our train trip to Portland.  We went down, did a little shopping, just a few clothing items and a  trip to the famed Powell's Bookstore.    I didn't find any new train books for our collection. Darn.  One night in the big city was plenty.

Thayne,  Yes, I know trucking.  The other thing is hurry up and wait.Bang Head

Todd,  Maybe if you help with the tree and do some Christmas stuff together,  you will find cool MR things under the tree.

Garry,  Great photos from the train.  We were unfortunate to get a nice view of the post between seats.  Next time I try harder to avoid that.

Curt,  As usual, your progress is making the rest of us look lazy.Thumbs Up

Ray,  What boiler is that.  The detail is great.

Rob,  Aren't you glad you have the critters making you get moving in the morning?  Keep after those coyotes.

Ulrich,  Tell Petra she deserves some extra Christmas cookies for all her hard work.

Paul,  Good to hear from you.  Was it worth it to only get 17 bales?

Ken,  I know it is hard to work for less.  I think we all are working longer hours for less these days.  We must be thankful  for having a job.  I have 2 part-time jobs, without benefits, but I feel more secure.  I was laid off from one in 2006.  If I didn't have 1 day a week in another office,  it could be been very depressing.  I looked at it as a time to move on.  Things had slowed down, and it was the best thing that could have happened.  I just needed a push.

Can't put the tree up until some other projects are completed.  Larry has wanted a new TV.  We finally found a console that fits in the space.  The problem is that we need to do some painting and get rid of the old stuff first.

It will be awhile until I get back in to finish the cyclone on the last business.  Larry is finishing  up the NP decals on  a trailer that will be backed up to the loading dock.

I was windy today.

Sue

Ken - that´s no good news. I have a hunch they are playing tricks on you. Hope things turn to the better soon!

Barry - the hourly rate for management consultancy is about $ 100. Last week I chipped in 72 hours, that would be $ 7,200 for last week alone! Top consultants charge up to $ 200 - 300 per hour!

Sue - Petra deserves more than a few extra cookies, but I have no means, other than telling her how much I love - after 27 years of marriage I am still in love with her like on the first day we met, well, even more!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a blueberry bagel w/ cream cheese and a cup of dark roast coffee to start the day.

I managed to sleep in just late enough THAT I can't go to church today.......  Oh well, I can't hear what anyone says there anyway....  Won't be there next week as it is the RIT Tiger Tracks Train Show all weekend...  I will be there on Christmas Eve I think!

I have to get out the few Christmas Decorations I put up and get them in place, start to "create" a Christmas card to be sent to family and friends, and several other seasonal things as well.....  Have no idea at all what I will get my Granddaughters this year.

Ulrich and Ken, sorry to hear what is going on at work for both of you..... AngrySigh  Hope things will get better soon for you both!

Bama, yes, the truck will go into the shop before it is driven anywhere again.  Hope it is something I can afford to get fixed at the moment.  If not it will sit the rest of the Winter in the driveway........

I best get doing some of the stuff I need to get done!

Barry - I wish I could do that here, but as a one man show you are bound to fail. We have about a quarter of a million ex-managers fighting for a slice of the cake. Competition is on cut-throat level. Maybe if I were in the US or Canada, or even New Zealand, that´ll be OK, but here in Germany Sigh

There are quite a number of bad thoughts in my head which I can´t get rid of.

Fingers crossed for those having job related problems. That is no fun at all.

Finally got some rest this morning. Sliced my little finger on metal yesterday (think large paper cut) and it woke me up throbbing about every hour. Cleaned and bandaged, so should be fine.

Will be in a corner booth awhile, trying to wake up. Rob

Wel, I went grocery shopping this Am. SPent $150.00 on top of the $160.00 I spent 2 weeks ago. That is our limit for the month and the month aint over yet.

W*rk: Ulrich- I would not have worked pro-bono If I were you. But that is just me. I wouldn't work anywhere for free, gas money or not. Ken-at least you still Have a job there. THose who said {and I echoed} that you were being set up to fail, were right. SInce you haven't had the proper training on their computer system to be manager material, you were set up to fail. SInk Or Swim is a nice  idea, but often fails. MOH, has a new dept. manager who has come in 20 mins late every day of 4 days last week. MOH has to punch out, then wait off the clock for this Dept. manager to show up so the dept is not "left alone". The Dept. Manager can override computer timeclock punches to make it "look like" she was on time. Finally MPH asked the store manager what teh proceedure is whne relief does not show up on time. Proceedure is call store manager and then call relief person. THe Dept. manager got seriously mad at MOH for reporting that she had not shown up at one minute to MOH punching out. SHe said "get out of here before I say somehting I will regret" and was angrythat MOH reported her for being late so many times. She can fire MOH for any reason...hence her statement so she avoided firing her best dept. employee. Those two will butt heads , and I am afraid MOH will loose out unless store managers override HER. MOH is lucky to have the job. The dept. manager also leaves the dept. a mess and the garbage for the next day for MOH...it IS a grocery stoer and the health dept. won't have much to say about a flower dept. BUT any other Dept and there would be HELL to pay for the way she leaves it a mess. WHen MOH reports it to Store management, the DEPT. manager gets her hair all in a tizzy and complains she will get in trouble! of course she will for not doing her job! In the 2 yrs MOH has worked there under another manager, the dept was NEVER left messy!

enough of that.

Glad I don't havet o be in teh w*rk-a-day world, but MY SSD is not going far enough with everything going up in cost either!!! I can complain loudly about that. and sometimes do, but not enough! It is not easy on either side.

Well, I should relax. took me 2 hours to unload and put away the groceries. The store is tearing up vinyl tels to bare concrete so they can remodel, but bare concrete is hard on my back. SO it takes me awhile.

WE all have ourt complaints I guess...today in the diner looks like complaint day!

try to have a good one here on out!

Fruit & veggie Smoothie, please.

***Barry, running in circles is a good thing, at least when it's trains!

***Galaxy, that kind of work environment must be very challenging for her to maintain sanity in.

Been thinking, if I was starting all over again in MRRing right now, I would jump up to O scale and fill the entire train room with one big layout, easy to see, with all the big train bells & whistles. Then I just look at the amount of work I've already put in and the costs to switch and the whole idea fades away. Anyone else go through such rethinking phases?

Good afternoon All,

Sorry to hear about all these job related issues. I have had managers in the past on power trips/ too difficult to deal with and just plain mean. I am self employed now so if there are issues, they are of my own doing so just try to learn from it and get back up and move.

Waiting for our flight in the Orlando airport. Weekend went ok at the end, but the new car had lots of battle damage to show for the weekend. Went the racing industry show at Orlando Thursday with one of our "flyins" who runs a shop in Tampa. While there I got a call from my son that the new car had been backed into the guard rail and they were overnighting parts to Sebring to fix it. Also had a couple of little issues with another car but those were handled by the time we returned to the track late afternoon. Started fixing what we had no spares for and just got out for second practice Friday. The driver is an old hand but Sebring and a new car with double the power and ground effects is a tall order and we had lots of subsequent issues all weekend with spins and offs. Finally dropped out of the sprint race Saturday with issues but got them fixed and tried one last time for the 90 minute "enduro" race. We were leading by three laps with 2 minutes left when we got put into the wall by a slower car that didn't see us. As we limped around to the pits there was great confusion, we drove by and headed back out as time expired just regaining the track at the end and were proceeding as they gave the checkered flag to the second place car with us still two laps ahead of it. Thought we were getting shafted but they announced we were still on track and as we took the checkered they announced they would review the finish as it was totally confused. After what seemed an eternity they announced we'd won after all.

Oh and we celebrated my birthday as well earlier in the weekend and I am now the proud owner of a genuine RR crossing signal complete with lights and bell. Funny crew I have. They lowered it ringing on the lift gate in the middle of dinner. Surprised is not the word for my expression. Actually thought I'd escaped as my birthday was the day before.

Gotta run, we're getting ready to board and the flight is overbooked (gotta love Southwest).  CUL, J.R.

Happy Birthday to JR!

Ulrich ... That sounded discouraging. Hope everything works out.

Ken ... Hope things work out for you, too.

We have company and I must be brief.

Evening All,

Flo could I have a cup of Decaf please?

Well we got the tree up and a little bit ago one of our critters was trying to pull the garland off the treeSigh. On the train front today I now have 7 HW cars that run the layout without issue up to 45 on the throttle. I need to get a different style of coupler for 2 cars because of how they are mounted and 1 I messed up and need to fix. I also glued down some more weeds on my water feature. MOH suggested putting in some water in between the tracks by the passenger station, so I need to think on that for a bit.

Doing 12 hours of OT tomorrow so I get off at 8 PM. Temp is supposed to be 80 F I believe.

Ken and Ulrich- I sure hope the jobs start to look up for you guys.

JR- Happy belated birthday.Happy B-Day

Prayers for those in need.

Sir Madog

 galaxy:

W*rk: Ulrich- I would not have worked pro-bono If I were you. But that is just me. I wouldn't work anywhere for free, gas money or not.

Galaxy - we have a saying here - in bad times, the devil has to eat flies. I had the time, and as long as there was a job perspective, I did not mind. Things look different now.

Well, over here they DO suggest if you are out of work and can't readily find a job to volunteer for something...maybe  a charitable organization, or somehting. But the difference is that a volunteer position is knowingly not a paid position.

To bad it isn't workiing out for you. Over here might not be much better as there are just as many mid and high level job people who are looking for work also and not finding it either. especially since the economy tanked, there are lots of financial people out of work!

Geeked

EDIT: Uh oh! I got top honors! eat up guys...I had the sausage with onions and peppers over toast!

GMTRacing

Good afternoon All,

Oh and we celebrated my birthday as well earlier in the weekend and I am now the proud owner of a genuine RR crossing signal complete with lights and bell. Funny crew I have. They lowered it ringing on the lift gate in the middle of dinner. Surprised is not the word for my expression. Actually thought I'd escaped as my birthday was the day before.

Gotta run, we're getting ready to board and the flight is overbooked (gotta love Southwest).  CUL, J.R.

Then Happy B-Day to you!

Did someone in here once mention having Magneplanars?

Going to hit the hay early.
