Choosing The Right Alclad Paint
Posted by alloboard on Friday, November 4, 2011 4:01 PM

I am painting a resin shell of a HO scale GE Jersey Arrow III. Should I choose Alcalad II stainless steel or Alcalad No.#107 which is chrome. All I wnt is the one closest to reflective metallic stainless steel. Which Alcalad are most of you modelers out there in favor for?

I would do a search for Antonio's write up's using Alclad as the search parameter. I have to say, IMHO, there is not any better explanation & information on Alclad for trains that Antonio has compiled & shared with us!

Antonio recommends the 107 chrome, BUT if you have not read his detailed instructions do so before you start anything. These metalizer paints work very differently than any other regular modeling paints, and you will save yourself a lot of grief if you do not have the info on how to apply them.

I recommend Alclad II 107 chrome sprayed over either gloss black or NYC Gray as the primer base. Alclad II is sprayed on in about 3 coats spaced over 15-30 min intervals.
