I get what Jarrell is trying to say...basically for the thread to allow more participants it would be nice to wait to reply to a request if you have just shown one. This would prevent two bored folks sitting at their computer making requests for each other to fill for hours on end. While the initial rule is to wait a page to reply to a request and since we went to a 2 hour time limit, maybe an amendment should be made that if you can fill a request that is nearing the 2 hour mark, then it is fair to fill the request.Question

This is Jarrell's baby though, so it is up to him.

I know I have tried to stay within the rules, but strayed the other day when I posted a picture of Cliff! Ken got a kick out of it anyway. I don't have many pics to add as I slowly work on my layout. After about 6 months of fretting about messing up ballasting, I decided to start ballasting one section.

Cry me a river...I mean Show me a river, or stream....

Jarrell beat me in requesting...show me a tall staircase or steps....

Well this is way too modern for my layout, as are most of my two boys locos.   They want modern stuff and I am trying to model the transition era.  I guess you could say this is the transition era from diesel to electric!

Now regarding the only posting once per page rule, frankly I think this will kill the thread faster than anything.  There are only a few who are regulars keeping this alive.  If they don't post more often than once per page it is likely that it will drift for hours on end without new posts.  May well be wrong on this, but this is my observation on how it seems to be working right now.

Show me a tank car.

So we have changed from showing Pictures to showing arguements. So far they are good and interesting arguements.

Show me a reason to ignor the rules.

If the rules were to be posted on the first post at the starting of each month it would be a help. I feel that almost all that go to this thread will start on that first thread posting.

At least at this time I think it is a good idea.Hmm

Oh I can assure you I'm not singling you out...  Smile

It's just that I can't be here 24/7 and I really don't want to be.  I realize that everyone didn't get to see the original rules so here they are..

"In this thread a person asks to see something, related to model railroading of course, and the first person to respond by posting a picture that contains what the person asks for then immediately says "Show Me Something"..................

That person can ask to see, for example, a certain color.. or a shape such as something round or square. They could ask to see something patriotic, or something angry or happy or sad. They may ask to see something educational or inspiring or scary. The request should be one word, such as "Show Me Something Humorous"

Particpants in the thread should give others a chance to join in. For instance, let several requests/
replies go by before jumping back in after you've participated UNLESS the thread drops off the first or second page and you'd like to bring it back. In that case it would be fine to answer again.

Please..., NO LINKS to a picture on another website somewhere. The answer MUST be posted in your reply. If a participant does that it should be ignored and another person can reply.

There may be times when two or more people reply at the same time. Any reply should be done to the FIRST person.

Edit;

2 Hour Rule

Guys, we're going to have to institute a time limit on replies to a request to keep things from bogging down . From this point on if there as been no
reply to a request within 2 hours of it being made the person making the request has to make another. If not, and we all have lives to lead and can't be here 24/7.... it's anybodies turn. I have a feeling that is what's happening, a person makes a request and has to leave for whatever reason, no reply is given and the thread, as I said, bogs down.

Duplicate requests

It is perfectly fine to request something that has already been asked for, eg. anyone can request a turntable shot even though it was requested earlier. Hopefully the person that replied to the earlier request won't answer thus giving someone else a chance. Of course it would be ideal not to have duplicates but there are a lot of different turntable shots out there we haven't seen. "

I know it is very hard for anyone to know this if they're fairly new to the thread.  The only way would be to post it at the top of every page which isn't going to happen... too much time, too much effort.

Please don't feel like you've been singled out, I just happen to log on on this particular page.

Thanks for participating and hope to see a lot more from you.

Ok, I won't do it again, but why are you singling me out? There are other  members doing it too. And have been doing it for some time. It was by chance that I had  pictures that were requested on my computer. It's not like I was rushing down to my layout and rushing back to post.

I was doing it as well, and I, too, was unaware of the rules. Live and learn. We now know what to and to not do, so consider it finished.

I been following this post and I really enjoyed it, But I got to tell you some of your rules seemed to be laid down as this thread goes along. No videos, no posts that are not clubs or not personal layouts. Ok if that's the way you want to do it fine. But to tell me to wait a page now when the the thread is going on it's second month, and other people have been doing for a long time, is simply out of line.

Dominic, it is customary to let a page go by before responding to a request.  That way it gives others a chance to reply and get in the game.  IF.... a couple hours go by with no one responding then it is ok for anyone at all the answer and request something.

Thanks,

Jarrell  OP
