I'll wait and see what the Internet reviews are before I commit.  I take the magazine reviews with a pinch of salt as they can never be relied upon to be accurate.  The magazine reviewers always try to please their advertisers first, regardless of the quaility of the product.  Athearn 2-8-2 getting the Model of the Year award, for example.

Good point. I had an Athearn Genesis 4-6-2 that did one thing very well. Break drive gears. The same with Bachmann's 0-6-0. It could be counted on to split it's axle sleeves.

blownout cylinder

That Schnabel looks really good as well...and I'm with you Darth...wonder what kind of radius that thing will take...http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/images/smiles/icon_eek.gif

Bachmann does it again with the 2-6-0 as well...good on them!! I'm liking what I am seeing there...

Guys, if tyou look at the proto schnabel cars, the Bachmann model has the load lifted higher than it should. That gives the interior bolsters room to swing. The Bachmann China-made model that is retooled from (used 4 axle trucks instead of 2 axles) had a radius of 24". though I'd be concerned about how far that load overhangs.

I've been fortunate with my Genesis 2-8-2, since it was a smooth runner straight from the box and hasn't split any gears. Plus, traction is often poor due to imbalance (again, mine runs exceptionally well). I wonder what really gets something a "Model of the Year" award?

At long last a new HO 2-6-0 steamer is set to be released by Bachmann. As a lover of small steamers I am estatic, it will be released with sound.

This news was released on the Bachmann web site .........

Must be well hidden!  i can't find it anywhere.

Somebody got a (clickable) web page?

Well, Gee, Sheldon!  I kinda thought that might be a good place to look too.  Spent about an hour trying to look in every hidden cranny they got on that useless site of theirs.  They got a link that says, "What's New"  thought it might be in there...  Nope!  They have all kinds of Thomas the Train items there including a perfectly posed portrait of "Diesel".....  Ooooooooo But nowhere that i can find is there the NMRA PDF you just gave me.... Taint there!  Nowhere, no way!  Lots of Plasticville dorky looking buildings you can plop on the layout, but not a thing I can find about a new 2-6-0???  I looked all the way through their listing of all their Steam Locos...  page after page...  Only found a couple of the oldies in there......  Hmmmm  Must be my computer ignorance.  Their site sees me coming and Poof!  The information i was looking for has gone....Whistling

Thanks!  I do appreciate getting the PDF.

I looked at the prototype for the 2-6-0 in the Model Railroader Cyclopedia vol 1; and it is a spot on depiction of the Mogul delivered to the GB&W in 1924!  Thumbs Up

It´s good to see that Bachmann uses the same reference material as most modelers do. Bow

I wouldn´t have been as satisfied with the release of the 2-6-0, if it had been a PRR or SP prototype!

Ray, it's under their forums>>General Discussion. It would seem that the Bach-Man can update the forums a lot more easily than he can recode their homepage. as new release stuff is frequently on the forums well ahead of the homepage. And while I can understand the that move from the ease and speed side of things, especially in a fast-paced convention, I agree their site is a pain in the FRED.

In my opinion ALL web sites are a pain until you "LEARN" them. Yes I follow Bachmann products and read their forum from time to time, so I knew it would be posted at the top of their forum - took me 20 seconds - post the link in another thread about this days ago.

I realize not everyone reads every thread - I sure don't - but come on now, if you were really interested there are three threads on here about the new Bachmann releases - you would have found the info.

This is good news,  that only leaves two locos left on my small loco with DCC and sound wish list. That would be a 4-6-2 Pacific and a 2-6-2 Prairie. Of course something smaller with DCC and sound would be nice too.Big Smile

I had no problem finding it. I went to the Bachmann forum, clicked on 'HO', clicked on 'New Items, Including a 2-6-0' and there was the NMRA PDF link in the first post.

As note below that all web/computer stuff is a "learned" language, there is nothing about ANY computer user interface that is in my opinion "intuitive". They are only "intuitive" to the people who design them.

Thanks for the .pdf file link, Sheldon.  I checked the pics and it looks like a complete retooling of their former 2-6-0 Mogul.

While it's definitely an improvement over Bachmann's former iteration, there's still a few issues that would keep me from purchasing the NYC version - e.g. wrong piston type.  Even so, it's definitely an improvement.

Thanks Flashwave! Sorry for being in a grouchy mood last night, but was getting a bit short tempered after searching in vain.

Now why didn't I think to look for a new product announcement in their forums....  Silly me!  Why would they want to announce a loco I have been waiting for for several years out in the open like on their main page or under "New"....... Whistling  I haven't been in the Bachmann forum in a couple of years and it is not one that monitor, so there is no reason I would have looked there.

Sheldon, I don't like Bachmann products except for their Steam Locos.....  I have pretty much standardized on theirs as I have have great experience with them.  I think they are the best bang for the buck.  Used to be I only looked at the Spectrum line, but at a show last year I talked at some length with a rep who told me they have upgraded the "standard" line and many locos that were in Spectrum are now part of the Standard line.  Since I model 1925 they are one of the few sources of power I can get that is suitable.  I currently have 11 running locos on the layout (and several more on the shelf).  Seven of them are Bachmanns.  I have an old Roundhouse shay (kit) that is my only DC loco in use.  A Roundhouse Mogul which is a very poor runner with questionable pickups on it. An 0-6-0 yard goat from Proto 2000 (sweet!), and one of Uncle Irvs Mikes (bought 2 and actually got one that didn't have the split gear problem).  Of the many Bachmanns, only one has given me any real problems.  That was a Decapod with the old wiring hook up that shorted out.  It now sits in a box waiting for me to get the new wiring harness.  Frankly I would love 2 or 3 moguls on the layout.  My only complaint is that they don't appear to be producing the Mogul in undecorated as they would be decaled for the SLOW.  I'm hoping they will.

I only skimmed the other threads about the new offerings as they seemed to be about the Yellowstone.  Beautiful Loco, but not period appropriate and way too big for my 22" curves in a couple places.  So, Sheldon, No I didn't find find the "hidden" information on the other threads.  Sorry for being abrasive last night, but I was getting frustrated.  And I still think Bachmann is keeping the new items well hidden from many who might be interested.  It should be on their front page!  I'll be sending them an email later today!

Ray:

I've got a feeling that as November rolls around, Bachmann will have changed their mind and will offer the Mogul in 'undec'.  I think too many modelers will be wanting that little (?) jewel for their private lines.

Though I'm doing handstands about the Yellowstone, (which I will probably--GASP!--pass on as I have about all the 2-8-8-4's I can handle right now ) after looking at that Mogul at the train show yesterday, I see some really good kit-bashing possibilities to  turn it into a Rio Grande Western 2-6-0--the cab is just about right, and so are some of the other details.   So hopefully for guys like you and me, we'll get an undec version.   At least it'll fit that gorgeous engine-house of yours better than my Yellowstone. Stick out tongue

howmus,

I understand, I have mostly Spectrum steam and the newer improved standard line steam as well. But I do also have the 44 tonners, 70 tonners, doodlebugs, aux water tenders.

Most of the rest of their diesel line is out of my era or not of interest. But I have followed their forum for quite a while - so I knew where to look.

That stuf will show up on the main page, but based on past experiance, that will take a week or two.

I have virtually no Bachmann rolling stock other than the heavy weight passenger cars.

Their product line is very diverse, appealing to a wide cross section of modeling interests, skill/experiance levels and price points.

I too am hopefull the 2-6-0 is offered unlettered.

So for future reference, the breaking news is always on their forum.

Tom, I hope you are right.  I would think there would be a good market for an undecorated version.  I am going to email them and ask if they plan to do so....  if enough of us ask for them, they just might oblige.....

Besides the EM1 there is the new SP MT4 with skyline casting from Athearn a new shovelnose from Concor and a U50 plus a DD40X coming down the pike.

The 2-6-0 looks good, although (as with their 4-6-0) I wish it had Stephenson valve gear. 2-6-0s were the most common logging railroad engine here in Minnesota, but most if not all were older ones without Walschaert or other outside valve gear. As a free-lancer I wouldn't be above getting the 2-8-8-4 undec and lettering for my railroad and putting it on some iron ore trains.

...and for those of you who are wishing for an M-3/4, well remember, both Baldwin Yellowstones shared the same wheel diameter and chassis length.  I could almost visualize a relatively easy kit-bash from one to the other.

Tom .

Maybe that is the idea that Bachmann has in mind... reusing the same chassis would have to save a lot in design costs.

A club member had the new 2-8-8-4 loco Saturday night. All I can say is it is gorgeous. It actually appeared to glide over the rails. The headlight may need to be dimmed, as it put spots in my vision when I stared at it. He is waiting for the sound package for it so I can't comment on that. He did not pull any cars as he was breaking it in but it climbed a 3% grade with ease.

I preordered the Mogul and after seeing the EM-1 I can't wait. Has anyone heard when they will be released?

To me, the Bachmann looks awfully big to be a logging loco.

Maybe that is the idea that Bachmann has in mind... reusing the same chassis would have to save a lot in design costs.

Just saw a video of the 2-8-8-4 in action--VERY smooth running lokie.   I noticed that though the valve gear is identical to the M-3/4 (Walschaerts), the crossheads are different between the two locomotives.  This would entail a little fiddling around with the valve gear for a conversion.  How come I didn't notice that when I was looking at the locomotive close-up at the show?  Tongue Tied   Oh well--

It's still quite a hunk of locomotive.

Wis Bachmann would do a 2-6-6-6 in the same price range as the 2-8-8-4 as an alternative to the over priced Rivarossi

I just bought the new Bachmann Alco 2-6-0 and it runs and SOUNDS great. But....................it is a "SOUND VALUE" engine.  That means the sounds it has are:  Chuff, bell, short and long whistle, and steam blow down.  That's all, but for the price it really runs and sounds great.

It's based on a Green Bay and Western engine.

Did I say I love it!  So does it's crew, the engineer and fireman won't leave the cab! Big Smile  So getta' one.  They're being sold with sound for just over $100.

I already detailed it and decaled it.

PS Bachmann forgot to put a whistle on the ax. dome.

I got a 2-6-0 as a Christmas gift from my wife. As mentioned above, it's a lovely machine!

I checked against the drawings, and it looks very good indeed.

The sounds are actually very good and are very pleasing, especially considering the price!

If Bachmann continues with this line of loco's, I will buy many more!

The big issue I have seen in another forum is lack of brake squeal, though the SoundTraxx document for the Alco 2-6-0 says there is suppose the be one. Only going on what a couple people have said.

Can anyone else check this?
